Devs, why are you so afraid of shaking up the game?

In game so this won't be in-depth

Why are there never more perks are that objectively strong for both sides, hell even a 5th slot as a mini event or PTB, anything to mix up this overly stale meta. The best perk in the past year is Soul Guard and it is honestly rather overrated.

Suvivors running: DS, DH, BT, Iron Will, Unbreakable, Adrenaline etc

To a lesser extent but still old, Killers: BBQ, Pop, Whispers, Devour, etc

people may say 5th perk slots is too powerful, but too powerful sounds more fun than what the meta is now.

In essentially every other game, there are constant changes and adjustments to perks and builds to prevent things from becoming stale, usually happening every season. What does DBD get every "season?" a new battlepass with no other changes to the game. Some games make things incredibly unbalanced and overpowered just see how the playerbase will react and play with it, yet we can't even get raw numbers in this game (moderately etc)

its really old at this point

Unfortunately this would make people cry even more than they already do and devs don't want to face with it, I guess? Game has been extremely stale for the past god knows how long and "New killer + new survivor + awful perks" became a common recipe, which does not add any fun to the game for me anymore.

I mean a 5th perk slot would just mean they pick the next perk on the meta list.

You'd still see the same perks over and over again. Just more in a single match

Just making the other perks a little stronger is all it needs tbh. The problem isn't really that meta perks are too strong

The problem is that the contrast between good perks and mediocre perks is huge

Here comes my second argument then, overhauling perks is too bothersome and tedious for devs. Remember that time when they "changed" (more like nothing actually changed) like 3 perks for mid chapter balance? Imagine how long it would take them to go over each perk? Sucks, but from the looks of it, they are not focused on reworking the perks. Lazy, extremely lazy.

A 5th perk slot would be cool if you earned it for prestiging or something. And then only if it had a limited selection of perks you could use in the 5th slot.

But then how would you balance it for killers? One player with 5 perks versus 4 players with up to 5 perks each doesn't sound balanced.

I like the different combinations you could run with 5 slots on killer tho

It would be fun to run all the obsession perks or all the hex perks on a single build.

The problem with the 5th perk slot is that the killer perks are nowhere near as strong as survivor perks. So for survivor, they will have ds, unbreakable, dead hard, soul guard, spine chill. The synergy of that is insane. Now for killer, you add what? Thanataphobia? Dying light? There's really nothing universally powerful enough to balance it. You would need something major, like a 10% base move speed increase or a non hex version of old ruin.

Because this community is very fragile and any significant change would set people off. Both sides are guilty of this. Take away any of the crutches they have and they'll come here and rant.

Because this game doesn't expand, the range of actually viable options only get smaller and smaller with every nerf in the name of "balance"

A killer 5th perk slot would be a fine start and I've been wishing for that for years, but giving the same thing to Survivors would end up being a massive Survivor buff. Instead, Survivors simply need more options in general. Seriously, at this rate you'd think it would kill them to finally come out with a new item.

Man, I was thinking the same thing.

Why didn't do like many other games do, every season release some changes to perks to shake up the meta.

Just imagine how exciting and fun it would be to start a new season and figure it out a new meta build.

Unfortunately, I think it will never happen as they seem to be very close minded when it comes to listen to feedback or trying out new things .

Gotta endure the same old DH, DS, BT meta build forever I guess.

Whispers and devour are basically meme tier or crutch killer perks that you can learn to play without in the case of whispers. Unless your killer is specifically good with whispers

Ive been playing for 3 years waiting for things to change

    As for your PH comment, thats a bigger issue;

What does PH do that shakes up the meta of perks? Having a power that deletes half of the only good perks is not a solution. I get sent to a box, with PH making a beeline back to me. I get saved, now what is stopping PH from tunneling me to death? DS? BT? nope, even exhaustion doesn't reset in a box, so you have ZERO defense against him. I bring this up because it has happened to me and my friends multiple times now.

You may say "jUSt uSE oThER pERKS" in which case:

    a. I don't know what killer is being picked

    b. the pool of perks that are actually viable is incredibly small

    c. picking other perks does nothing to stop him from tunneling

The point of this post is to bring up what everyone knows but the devs only respond with "later" - 95% of the perks are completely useless or require a ridiculous amount of work to activate, resulting in the small pool we have, which is now even smaller given how PH can render half of them null.

we totally need a 5th perk slot, this would make a better game experience and balanced since everyone else would have it

let's the PTB decide whether a 5th perk slot is more fun or unbalanced
