Lightborn & Franklin's Counterplay...

So now that these perks will be changing for the better, especially Franklin's, what are the devs planning to do about the Survivor's ability to change characters and loadouts at the last second?

This tactic has been available since the game's launch and at one point in time was responsible for the ability for characters to essentially buy an unlimited number of specific addons in the bloodweb.

A killer by design is able to see survivors and the items they're carrying in order to prepare for the match accordingly. If a survivor or a group of survivors can swap in items before a killer can change their loadout in response, it removes their ability to be prepared for the match. This makes the new changes to these perks nearly to useless unless a killer dedicates a perk slot even if survivors don't bring items into the match.

In this instance by preventing the swap and allowing a killer to fully prepare for a match may also give a killer the chance to properly prepare against a swf group for the same reasons.

Depending on what you do to prevent the swap, letting the killer players know they're about to face a swf group may not drive them to dodge the lobby, but rather change their loadout to be better prepared to face them.

Being unprepared when facing a swf group is one of the biggest reasons I personally dislike facing them.

This might also have the effect of further encouraging diverse builds because a killer will have a much better idea of what kinds of survivors they're facing and won't need to run a sweat build all the time "just in case" they run into a swf swat team.

I thought about that, but unless we had the ability to have perk presets 15 seconds might not be enough time to change your entire build if you needed to.

Maybe not, but it should be at least enough time to change out one perk.

Though we should totally get perk presets regardless of this being addressed or not.

Perk presets need to be a thing. That really should be at the top of the to-do list. Every character should have 3-5 perk presets to choose from. I have mixed feelings about the killer seeing the survivors and their items in the lobby though. On the one hand, I see your point about lightborn in particular. It is only useful if the survivors bring flashlights. Which you would need to know going into the match. On the other hand it is a hard counter to flashlights and there are challenges and stuff requiring flashlights which are hard enough to accomplish already. So I don't know if removing the last second item switch is good for the game either. If it were purely up to me, what I would do is give lightborn a secondary effect to make it at least arguably worth using even if survivors don't have flashlights. The secondary effect shouldn't be too strong. Just something.

After the first 30 seconds, the survivors are locked in for characters, perks, items, etc; the last 30 seconds the killer finishes prepping.

'Survivor switching really isn't a problem to me.' There, I fixed it for you.

Keys are my bigger issue. Going into a match with a key is a completely different game to one without, and actually having a way to remove that from play, rather than just placing on the ground for later use, is going to be an absolute game-changer. Can't wait to Franklin's some SWF who want cheap hatches.

I already use lightborn but if it becomes semi-popular last second switching to torches might become more popular as well.

Which I'd dislike more as a survivor - if for some reason I've queued 15 minutes to get a survivor game at night I don't appreciate it when my teammates all switch to flashlights last second and the match gets mysteriously cancelled...

I wouldn't mind preset builds available for killer, so they can swap out depending on the situation.

For me, the killers should not have the possibility of seeing the items brought by the survivors, and thus appropriately choose a perk whose effectiveness will be totally guaranteed.

This solves the problem easily, is more consistent, and is fairer. Seriously, balancing should absolutely not be based on this.

I have another example: 4 solo players (the majority of the games) not specially mastering the flashlight, each deciding to use this item (why not?). How is it fair that the killer can be guaranteed to annihilate 4 items and addons? Survivors must now fight in the lobby to decide who is the only person allowed to bring a flashlight?
