Why do people get mad when the killer camps in endgame?
If there are more than two survivors still alive when all the gens are finished the Killer is left with very little choices.
Get a down, slug, and attempt (key word) to prevent one of the two exit gates from being opened (if there are split apart by a substantial distance good luck, its a guessing game) OR
Get a down, hook the survivor, and ensure your kill. Hoping that the team will get altruistic and possibly snowball from it.
I get hit with camper messages every once in a while when I'll camp a hook in endgame and it honestly makes me think that those people have just never played killer. If you leave the hook to go to an exit gate, you better pray they don't have BT or DS because that's a free escape.

Even if the killer has no options left, it’s still terribly annoying and unfun for the survivor being camped.
It makes sense that people would be angry and take it out on the killer, it’s still a scummy strategy even if there isn’t much else for them to do

I wouldn't consider it scummy, but more of a game design fault.
What is the killer supposed to do in endgame if he doesn't know where the other survivors are and the gates are more than likely at 99?

Thats just your opinion. Stay mad i guess 🤷♂️

Exactly lol, the killer is simply doing his objective. Kill.

When I was Nancy I almost escaped through the hatch until my teammate made noise. She started to run as ghostface saw us and hits me on hook and let’s her escape.

It's not scummy, literally nothing else to do. If you commit to chasing a survivor, the others can easily unhook and escape. Assuming the survivor you're chasing is healthy, you need 2 hits to down them. With that amount of time the survivor you're chasing can EASILY get to the gate. Congratulations, now the killer has no kills instead of 1. Not like the killer wants to camp the hook, but they have no choice.

Because it's a desperate attempt to salvage a lost game.
But I can somewhat understand why killers do it. When you get beaten really badly, you might as well park yourself in front of the hooked survivor.
Personally, I try not to closely camp the hooked survivor. Because for me it's sporting to give the hooked person a chance. I'll usually wait for one of the survivors to get close enough and then chase after them. But it really depends on the game. If it was a fairly clean match, I usually don't camp. They won, so I'm okay with letting them escape. If the survivors tilted the match heavily in their favor then I don't feel so bad about camping. Just depends on the circumstances.

Ok well my job as a killer is not to be a "good sport" I don't know where this mentality came from, survivors are not entitled to an escape just because they played well.

I also cop a bit of abuse every so often for doing the same thing. There's a hooked survivor, the EGC has started (which means a door is open), I have no idea which door is open (more than likely both), and don't know where other survivors are. There is literally nothing left for the killer to do other than stand in front of the hook hoping the survivors are altruistic.
Even though it is a bit of an uncommon circumstance, more than likely someone has BT and they can tank hits for the person on the hook, allowing everyone to escape. In my experience, that usually happens.

Because they're idiots.

You're entitled to that opinion.
I don't share it because I thinking camping the last guy is pretty lazy.
I've played a lot of survivor, so I know what it feels like to watch the killer camp someone during the end game. It's quite boring.
But I should point out there are different levels of camping. If you stay near the hook with the hope of trying to catch someone else, then that's alright. Luckily, many killers try and do that to make the match a little more interesting. But if you simply face camp, well... that's admitting you've run out of options.
I've actually had a number of matches where I managed to safety pip by not not camping the last survivor. If you try and chase survivors at the end, the game usually rewards you. But if you hard camp, chances are you'll depip.

When the game has only 1 thing to do as Survivor in early-mid game: Gen, and Killer has only 1 thing to do in end game: Hook camp. Its game design's fault.
Which is why people suggest 2nd objective, and I suggest to have Killer able to kick finish Gen to de-power Gates (limit kicking count) so at least Killer willing to walk away from the hook and de-power Gate.
The choice between being scummy by hook camp in end game, or being dumb by checking a Gate so survivors can escape the other Gate. I rather being scummy, because at least that will reward me with a kill.
Im willing to have no new DLC to have a re-work on core game play.

I really like the idea of being able to regress gate progress.
I think if they made it so gates automatically regress if you leave them on 99 the end game would be a lot more engaging as EGC would start earlier and actually pick up the pace.

Not a scummy strategy at all. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
