Is this acceptable as a killer?

Hi,

I just did a game as a killer against survivors that were clearly more experienced at the game than me, I did my best and in the end game I had 1 guy hooked with the other 3 all running round the hook trying to get him. I was fending them off trying to get a down. Got to the point where they just left.

End of the game I was greeted with this:

I'm the pink and ive numbered the survivors 1,2 and 3.

Also here are their ranks compared to mine:

So not only was I totally outclassed due to the matchmaking system, I was given a load of abuse at the end of the game. This game is making me feel miserable and badly affects my mental health so that will be my last game as I can't take it anymore, this isn't even close to an isolated incident.

Well I play on Xbox were you can just turn messages off completely and never hear anything from anyone. Is that not possible on PC? Can't you just have that chat turned off always?

First of all, camping and tunneling are legal in the game.

That said, camping and tunneling is just as toxic as swarming the hook, coordinated body blocking and flashlight swat team SWFs. Both suck and are no fun to play against.

But, even those who hate seeing camping (as in camping from the first hook on) will admit that once the gens are done, and you have a hook, camping it is completely understandable. I hate playing vs campers, but I would never, ever blame someone for camping a hook in late game.

I prefer the killer role and I hate to camp, but may camp that EGC hook.

    You did nothign wrong.

This is pretty normal to see as killer. No matter how well you play, or follow their rule book, survivors will always blame you for their loss. Just GG EZ and move on.

Esp since you say you have no mental health problems, you seem to be a very empathetic person :) Thanks for writing this all down, it sure helped a lot (I also played killer today...).

Sad how a rank 1 survivor still doesn't realize when survivors are running around the hook that it's not camping... What's the killer supposed to do when they see all the survivors there? Just let them save? Sure, you kinda failed at your objective during the game but your objective regardless is to kill survivors in any way, shape, or form eeeeven if it's just one kill. Killers aren't supposed to let the survivors save their friends even though it does tend to happen.

Just another case of the non-existent "Survivor Rulebook" Rule number whatever: When you hook a survivor you must walk to a corner of the map and let the rest of the team save.

Yeah, you're not really even "camping" at that point. The gens were done and the other 3 Survivors were swarming the hook, why would you leave the area? I mostly play Survivor these days (after they "tweaked" my Nurse) and I don't blame any Killer who defends a hook in the end game, especially when all other Survivors are literally right there. The ~10 - 15% of the time I play Killer I'll "camp" the hook in the EGC because, typically, the team doesn't want to leave their friend behind. And it's not rare to go from 1 to 2 or even 4 kills due to an overly altruistic attempt at the end.

As for the nasty messages, I guess I'm lucky to be on PS4 'cause I always turn off messages. No need (nor desire) to listen to some little kids rant and rave about it; I was there, I played the game; and I'm moving on!

There's gotta be a way to disable messages on comp, right? Comp people chime in, help the guy out!

Completely agree. As I said, I hate camping, but just had a match where they kept running up to unhook in front of me. Sorry, but at that point I'm throwing out all decency and taking down whoever's easiest.

You can't help if they are being stupid. If you prefer to play by a gentleman's code then that is all good, but don't sweat the groups that force your hand.

Close chat, and If a game badly affects your feelings, please take a break.

Try not to care what other people think of you, bc it's all about you in the end of the match

You're most welcome. I mean it sincerely. :-)

Not that I'm aware of. :-D I think we all have our quirky idiosyncrasies that can be perceived as a metal health issue but I have seen a therapist or two over the years during really stressful times and was in need of coping mechanisms I was short on at the time. You know, the moments in life where it's that "one thing too many" - they all say I'm normal and sane - or so they think ;-) Leaned a lot about coping from them.

My name comes from my brothers. Growing up they always said all woman were crazy. This was always my response every time they'd make a complaint about a girl. Big laughs were always had. :-D

    *hugs to you as well*

You're very welcome as well. I'm glad it helped. I love people. One of my pet peeves is that kind of nasty behavior towards others. It's unnecessary and cruel and grates on my nerves. Imho it's never okay. I know what it's like to be hurt. Seeing other hurt by people like these trolls makes me go grrrr.

I play survivor. I tried killer twice and was completely humiliated and I mean they weren't even humble about it. It was all teasing and taunting. Playing killer - oh yeah - hard. Much harder. The fact you all can even see us with that narrow POV is an accomplishment.

Without you all - we'd have no game. So I value you a lot.

While I don't like a killer camping and tunneling (I'm not good at the game so it's really extra hard when you have that) it's a killers right to play that way if they chose. Maybe when and if I get better it won't bother me at all. IMHO though you'd get more points and it would be more fun not to but that's one gals POV.

Believe me when I say survivors also have their share of yuck. We have to deal with teammates that are nasty too. Often I find I'm not only playing against a killer, but my own teammates - and that stinks. Truly stinks.

Hang in there. Take breaks when you need to and when you see nasty mean players. Beat them down! You are the killers and it is your sacred duty!

So you stayed near the hook at endgame and you were called out? What did the survivors expect you to do? Leave and go to a corner?.

This is why I hope people learn both sides before they talk ######### like that, after all gens are done the killer has nothing to do, if one is on the hook what can the killer do? The killer will try to secure at least 1 kill.

I suggest just ignoring chat, close it or just don't answer.

That's not even camping, that's fending off Flies, swarming around pestering you. While you're just a innocent butcher trying to prepare your cattle for The Connoisseur.

The problem with the camping thing is this:

The last 2 times i was told i was a camper was

    a) when i hooked one, saw another one with bbq on the other side of the map, got there, and he run me all the way back straight to the hook...but i was camping.

    b) i was running rancor, had one survivor at the basement, and a gen popped, showing me another one on the stairs to the basement. i turned around, and got the unhooker. He crawled under the hook and i try to get him. Obviously, that was camping again.

Survivors call everything camping if the killer is near the hook, even if they run the killer back to the hook themself.

You need to learn to embrace the salt young one. There are no rules to what you can do other than whats available to do within the game. You didn't do anything wrong.

Every game has a-holes, sadly. Some people really shouldn't play competitive games, since they obviously can't handle losing. They'll be mad at you no matter what you do, even if you play by the rules.

Also, there are really no "rules" in this game. Sure, as a Survivor, you SHOULD try to help your teammates and do objectives. As a Killer, you SHOULD try to hook Survivors, and not "camp" or "tunnel" or whatever. But this isn't a LAW. You can play the game however you want. If you want to stand in front of a hook the entire game, nobody can stop you, really. Although it's boring, you're ALLOWED to do it.

Either way, in the situation you're describing, you were not in the wrong. It's (almost) always a crappy experience to go against a SWF, even more so when they're jerks like these. If you need to take a break after experiences like this, that's okay, of course - value your mental health first. But if you genuinely enjoy the game, don't let people like this get you down.

TL;DR: Ignore the toxic players, play however YOU want to, but most importantly, take care of yourself 💚

Neither of those are camping imho and that fact anyone perceived that it was is them being ridiculous in mt mind. Although I shouldn't be so harsh as it is how THEY perceive it. To me though, that perception is inaccurate and I wouldn't consider it camping.

I'm sorry that you have those who do. No doubt it frustrates you to no end. I also doubt that if you tried to explain it in an after game chat they would listen. :-( Can't win on that one.

The survivors should realize that camping is when a killer is pacing around the hook close so that the only way to get your teammate down is a confrontation to which you really need a very, very ,very skilled survivor - or - two other teammates in order to successfully unhook.

I often have kindred on (mix bag of nuts wearing that is) you see things that make you go "why, why why!" with all sorts of stuff. I think they created Kindred to make us laugh, or drive survivors crazy with seeing the most insane maneuvers.

The camping thing isn’t nice? From what I understood killer only camped in the end game when there’s literally nothing else they can do. Also the other survivors were running around the hook trying to unhook and killer was trying to down them at the same time. What else is the killer supposed to do?

  • ALostPuppy
    ALostPuppy Member Posts: 3,398

Firstly, hide the post-game chat if it's making you feel this way. Nobody should have to stop playing a game because idiots are impacting your mental health.

Secondly I'm not sure what you mean by it being "acceptable"? If the game allows you to do what you want to do without you using 3rd party tools to modify the game there are absolutely no rules in place to say that you can't play like that. Play the way that makes you enjoy the game the most. This same kind of behaviour is in fighting games, but you don't see people quit Street Fighter because everyone's annoyed at them for playing Guile. ######### what anyone else thinks and play how you want.

  • ALostPuppy
    ALostPuppy Member Posts: 3,398

Honestly unless you have NOED up, 3 survivors can definitely co-ordinate a save on one guy during the EGC. If they can't and chicken out they're REALLY bad survivors, and boring too. The EGC is the most fun and chaotic part of the match, I live for that ######### because it's so funny when you're with friends and you're trying to save 1 person but you all end up clowning out and give the killer a 4k right at the very end. Easily the best part of the game and it's always fun for the killer too.

  • MaybeShesCrazy
    MaybeShesCrazy Member Posts: 337

And that right there is almost the perfect response. Kudos!

Certain types of camping I don't think are very sportsman like, EG: one survivor left, killer standing at the basement that two survivors are hooked in and 4 gens still up. It's my opinion but as you also see - I don't chastise for it because you play how you play. People view things differently and not every instance is the same. It's all about situational perception and each case is different. (This is why I said it sounds like it is.)

Looking at the situation from that POV, and how you've presented it, probably spot on; there was nothing the killer could do. Very valid point.

I wish people would /could do this in game instead of the abuse they lash out.

Unfortunately the environment after game is quite different lol

    Pryzm Member Posts: 393

There are some plays to be made. That is what makes EGC so much fun in that situation. I only run NOED as part of specific builds, so don't have it up that often. It is fun having those mind games though.

That is unacceptable behavior even tho its how they always behave. I hate survivors so thats why I like to kill them. When you 4k they stay silent, but if u don't kill every single last one of those toxic little turds, then they gonna trash talk at the end. Guaranteed.

The best thing with the Steam end-game chat is that you can disable it. Do that and play as you want, never again you need to worry about what the survivors thought of your performance.

Matchmaking seems to be working mostly correct.

Rank 5s are within 6 of your 11. As is the LOWER 16. One red rank.

That's how it's supposed to work.

Also, "This game is making me feel miserable and badly affects my mental health so that will be my last game as I can't take it anymore"

Then stop playing, or stop letting peoples words in a game that doesnt matter bother you.

If you know it is going to bother you and upset you, dont put yourself in that situation. If you cant stop yourself from playing, you'll have to stop letting it bother you. It's not just in DBD. People are ######### in almost every game.

Three survivors were down and I was the last standing. I was very far away but as soon as I saw them I got up and trying to get close to them. Unfortunately the killer (Myers in full power) was there, too close, surrounding the survs so I had to make my way stealthy... And I'm a main David, and you know David is a bit bigger than Claudette. You know what I mean? :<

A survivor choose to kill himself (the one that throw me bad words after). Then I finally unhook the other one, while the third was still down slugging.

I was about to saving all of them.

Then suddenly the game ended. I didnt get how, because the killer didnt DC. There wasnt the symbol of DC...

And I didnt get why the one who killed himself were still on the first hook when he were supposed to be on his second hook. (He had two hooks but apparently the first one didnt count).

All this for saying that this people are mean but you dont have to quit a game you like because of them. I felt a bit strange in the matches after, wondering if I really am a bad survivor. But then I thought: sometimes we do bad choices, sometimes we do epic things, sometimes we win and sometimes we lose real bad.

But this doesnt mean we are bad.

So you are not a bad killer. It's all about perspective. You are a killer and a killer job is to kill all survivors no metter what, my job as a survivor is to survive no metter what.

So if the situation require you to camping because all 3 survs are around the hooked one. You do it.

So if the situation require me to crouch all the ducking time because I'm a big beefy guy who is difficult to hide behind bushes and rocks, for saving your a s s and at the same time surviving, I ducking crouch.

    This is DbD.

Dont quit. There are still good people who play nice and chill, just for the sake of playing.

(Sorry if my english is bad but It's not my mother language.)

That isn't matchmaking. They see with low ranks to play against low rank killer.
