New player- Why is this games community so toxic ?

Started playing yesterday and have put in about 9hrs so far exclusively as killer and would be really enjoying it if it wasn’t for the insane amount of dickheads on this game . I’ve only played one match where I didn’t get an abusive message after . Like seriously I get more childish behaviour on this than I do from 12 year olds on cod .

So firstly why is everyone so toxic on this? This is anything from messages after/ during matches telling me im a pussy , ######### , noob , racial slurs , threats - to being match made against a full premade team of rank 1-3 survivors that all know the loops and exploits so think it’s funny to just spend the match running and teabagging .

secondly what is everyone’s obsession with trying to tell me how to play the game ? I’ve been playing less than 10 hours and I’m managing to get 3 or 4 kills almost every single match even against rank 5 and below . So this means I must be doing something right? Well apparently not ! Standing anywhere closer than 100metres to a hooked survivor is apparently camping , hovering between the last 3 generators when they have one left to do is also apparently camping . Downing 2 people fast because they were stupid enough to try gank me with torches and teabag me is apparently me cheating or lagging .

Every multiplayer game ever has toxic players and sore losers who feel the need to send you abuse when you win , but this game takes the cake when it’s literally every single match. I’m really enjoying the game for what it is and am making good progress as a killer , but man seriously why all the hate ? Am I just supposed to let everyone win every match or something..?

Can't tell you what someone drives to write after the game on a steampage of a stranger in a toxic way, or similar things on the consoles.

I think such people don't even notice how ridiculous they appear to readers that are not connected to dbd.

It is the best to put your steam page on private. Saves you time that you would otherwise have to spend with deleting those messages^^.

The best thing to do is disable chat if you're on PC or set your privacy on console so that people who aren't your friends can't send you any messages. People on this game are crazy toxic. I play survivor and I get toxic messages from other survivors. I'm talking rank 10 survivors when I'm a rank 1 calling me a potato because they died on the hook from doing stupid crap like instant saves or swarming the basement. I'm sorry it's not been a good experience so far for you, but there are good people who play the game. I hope it turns around for you!

Turn off messages/chat, make profile private. It's annoying but people are just very sore winners/losers. You'll enjoy the game way more without the commentary.

Asymmetrical multiplayer leads to mob mentality.

Even when I'm angry whether I played survivor or killer, I never write anything bad in chat. This will not change anything, and I also don't want to give others the satisfaction. That's why I turned it off. You will rarely see anything good in there, so why bother? I don't want to waste my time and nerves to talk to strangers who usually are toxic as hell. I'd also like to know what is going on inside their heads 😅

PVP games are known for their toxicity, expecting DbD to be a playground of angels who don't taunt and swear at each other is a bit positive in the face of reality.

I agree with what others have said, either disable chat if you're on PC or set your messages to friends only on console.

DBD unfortunately breeds toxicity, which is why I wish this game had a single player mode. If it could be done for Friday the 13th, then it can work for DBD.

So toxicity exists in all games that are PVP. Make things asymmetric and it gets worse. Make it so one side is literally murdering the other and there's suddenly some weird emotions mixed in. I once had someone rage at me because I "murdered their girlfriend." Yup, I did. GGez.

Thanks guys , il set it so I can’t get messages from people who aren’t friends cause it’s getting out of hand now , I’ve had about 150 abusive messages in the past day lol. Sooo much hate just cause I’m winning.

as I say I know all multiplayer games have a tendency to breed toxic behaviour, but this one has been the worst I’ve ever played by far . I will try to not let it put me off playing though as I’m enjoying the game for what it is .

I don't think I have ever had someone comment on my profile over a call of duty / CS:GO match more than a few times. DBD it's like every time I play. I leave the comments on anyways though.

You gotta play this game like a savage if you want to 4k at red ranks vs all the object SWFs; who offer a really survivor sided map, run 14x second chance perks, and then will go and cry on your profile when they still lose.

You know how sometimes in games you feel like you got bullshitted and you start swearing at the AI? The AI are people now.

alot of people only play one side which means theres a lack of empathy for the other side especially with survivors

Lmao well I’m glad to see I’m at least not alone . Yeah I tried reasoning with them at first , then humouring myself , then I started letting the abuse get to me and now I’m just gonna set it so they can’t even message me and I’ll carry on playing the way I do and winning lol

Why does pc even have a chat? Console doesn't, and I damn sure wouldn't want it, specifically for that(OP) reason. On console, I'm private. Learned to do that after the first week of playing this. You think behavior would've nerfed the chat by now... 🤷‍♂️

The only comments I get on my steam profile are survivors in DBD. None from other games (even multiplayer), none from killer when I play survivor, only from survivors.

It is also for survivors to gang up on a killer in chat, as they can have 4 people bashing 1 person, making it feel much more personal.

"I mean, sorry for allowing you to have a game to play, Jesus".

people don't want fnaf because they don't want kids playing but we get childish message in the end game chat to the point we have to turn it off.....are you sure we don't already have kids play this game?

I turned off commenting and made my profile private solely because of the DBD community. It became a chore deleting the disgusting comments every single day. Some killers wear them as a badge of pride. I'm getting too old for that ######### myself.

Any other assymetrical game that suffered this issue?

In a honesty, I have learned to accept this. A lot of people get very very angry when they don't get their way. Same goes in real life in all honesty. But that's kinda the mindset of kids.

I have almost 1k hours. (not that it's a lot some have a lot more.) I have been called so many things in this game. I just laugh it off. These people can't do anything to hurt you man. Just play on. Don't try to follow any made up rules. Go out there and murder some baby Meg's :)

Because young humans are toxic. I think the toxicity cut off age is about 27 🤔
