What will Dead by Daylight become in a few years?
In a few years, I see DBD remaining a paid game with countless paid chapters, a battle pass, and overpriced skins. Whats worse is that I think the monetization will be their priority over this "balance" and "fun" that people want. I don't think this game can last long. But only time will tell. Right now, I just got some new games and I'm having more fun playing those.
I'm curious, what do other people in this community predict will happen to this game? Why?

With what the forums have been crying for it will devolve into a Five Nights at Freddy / Fortnite Battle Royal.

"I just got some new games and I'm having more fun playing those."
Yet, you're on a DbD forum not playing those games.
Speaks volumes about the longevity of this game.
Im an old school 90's Ultima Online player killer, we literally created PVP back then, and the game is still going after 20+ years.
DbD will be around for a long time.

It’s alright to play other games. I don’t religiously play DBD. There were other great multiplayer games before DBD and I’m sure there will be a ton more that come after it.
I don’t see this game going anywhere soon. If anything, it seems to be getting more popular.

Honestly I dont think it will around for more than another 3-5 years just based on how the vast majority of online only games work. Very few multiplayer games last 10+ years. Hopefully DBD2 comes out because overall I enjoy the game. However new hardware is going to come out pushing the game into irrelevance.

I sometimes visit to see what people are complaining about or see if there are any changes and updates that could get me back into the game. Then I decided to make this post because I was curious about what other people thought concerning DBD's future.

Search is broken but there was a thread that the game will be Dead by December.

The bugs will pile up to such a point that the game refuses to boot I imagine.

lmao it's gonna stay how it is even with how the devs operate because IT HAS NO COMPETITION.
Unless competition comes out for this game, it would actually push the devs into fixing bugs and making more sensible balance changes. For now they can do whatever they please

It will become Alive by Sundown

The game will “die” about 3-4 years after the last chapter is released. By die I mean the devs will shut down the servers. 😔

We were hoping FT13th would be that competition. The law suit made that game dead in the water. Last Year didn't live up to expectations. RE3's multi feels like a mode that was slapped onto a half finished game. BHVR knows they don't "have" to balance their game because there isn't anyone else to take their player basis away.
Gears of War 5 dropped a big update for Horde a week ago. I've been playing that. Still hop onto Warhammer 2. I'm sure PS4 owners are playing Ghosts of Tsushima.
I watched Evolve and Stage 2 die twice. I don't see that happening to dbd soon. Things may not be looking too well but so long as there are a good amount of people playing, the game will go on.

most likely this tho it may hit ps5 the new x box.

You mean this one? Yeah, this is a good read considering the game hasn't slowed down yet.
Okay, time to address the topic. Yeah, DBD has issues. Serious issues. Single skins costing as much as full DLC is one of those. And the new "Legendary" skins (which I still think are stupid and BHVR should feel bad for creating them) are even worse offenders. The amount of chapters that you must pay for that aren't licensed is also pretty bad. The last free chapter we got was with Huntress THREE YEARS AGO! Seriously, give people something else to give them a break. And the Battle Pass System doesn't belong in a Pay to Play game.
The game also has so many bugs that they could call the best exterminator in the world and still not clear out half of them.
But all that said, saying BHVR haven't become a voice would be lying. We all know how stingy Konami is, but BHVR was able to reach them and obtained Silent Hill, which is no small feat. In no other game can you play as Pyramid Head chasing down Ashley Williams down the halls of Hawkins Laboratory. Or be Michael Myers stalking down Cheryl/Heather Mason through an abandoned preschool in Ohio. No other game does this, and even if we got another similar game, it would have to compete with a game that has NINE different licenses from across the horror genre and we know has at least two more coming in.
I don't think DBD is going anywhere.

Yes that is the one, thank you!

"The last free chapter we got was with Huntress THREE YEARS AGO!"
I just bought Oni, Deathslinger with shards....

Technicalities. I meant unlocked with the base game.

Dead by Nightlight

Well, you get shards for free playing the game and in 3 years you should definitely have enough saved to buy the DLCs that are not licensed.
I understand your grievance, but one should not act as if they do not give free DLC ability.

DBD is broken at it's core. The game is filled to the bring with terrible design choices that the community often abused making most games a complete waste of time especially with how que times can be. If they do not fix these issues DBD will be lucky to last another 4 years

Oh wow you are so witty.

In 2017, people cried about map designs, and que times, and here we are in 2020. And the doomsayers still here.
This is a game where people spend over $500 on cosmetics my dude, it will be here long after you stop playing it.

DBD will die the first time an asymmetrical horror game competes against it. DBD has problems at its core due to poor game design that the devs seem to choose to ignore. If it wasn't for the legal issues Friday The 13th probably would have already killed it. Even without additional content being added it's a much more enjoyable game. I never feel like I'm wasting my time playing it unlike half my matches in DBD.
1 -
That's because dipshit fanboys like you keep giving them money for a broken product. Keep that up and they will never fix it. DBD really has no competition, the first competent asymmetrical horror game to compete with DBD will leave it in ruin.

Bam. I played Ragnarok Online off & on for over 20 years. And it's still here. I could see DBD going for a long time. Idk about 20 years, but who knows?

I dont really buy cosmetics or DLC with cash if I can use shards, the ones I have purchased were with shards. Might want to actually know what kind of tree you barking up. Id bet you spent more on the game than me ;)

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It takes time to get them, but you can unlock them for free.
Outside of Friday the 13th, three other games off the top of my head attempted to compete with DBD. Last Year failed. Resident Evil: Resistance failed. Predator: Hunting Grounds failed. All of which were speculated to compete with DBD for the asymmetrical horror survival genre. And only DBD stands on top.
1 -
Yep sure

I said competent, not half assed multiplayer additions or an excuse to use a license.
0 -
Perhaps pay-gates and loot boxes will be introduced by that point. Will be exciting to see how far BHVR plan on taking the monetization, with the legendary skins now having opened up for 15$ skins.

Probably the same as today.
Maybe they'll stray from encouraging looping.

Dead by Daylight with merge with fortnite to creating Dead By Fortnite...

"DBD will die the first time an asymmetrical horror game competes against it."
"Competent" is missing from this statement you gave me, so forgive my assumption that you meant general asymmetrical horror survival games. And Last Year didn't have either of those two things.
0 -
Ah I left it out in that one, I put it in another comment though lol my bad.

I saw people asking for camos on their medkits and flashlights. Loot boxes could actually be a thing where players can get skins and camos. That would suck but since the community in general keeps buying into battle passes and legendary skins (that costs 15 dollars), anything is possible.

Anything can happen.
DbD could get a number of reworks that make it an enjoyable experience for both sides, or it could continue to be a money milking machine. There are only so many licenses available so core fixes have to come eventually...
A competitor that hasn't garnered much attention (Monstrum 2) could turn out to be a fun experience that people tired of DbD can turn to.
But as stated above, a competitor has to be good from the start rather than promising changes from hype train pre-releases.

I feel that, Friday the 13th was pretty fun. I liked Jason being powerful and threatening. I liked that every match was different. I hardly even care about new content, as long as the game is fun, that's all that matters.

I'm really excited about Monstrum 2. I'm getting my first gaming PC in about 3 months from now for my birthday and it'll probably be one of the first games I get. By the way, are you the real Space Coconut????
0 -
Yep lol
I'm interested, but I'll wait until I see gameplay before I let myself get excited. Cinematic trailers aren't reliable afterall ;)

Deathgarden. It will become Deathgarden.
