Some notes DBD could take from other assymetrical games
I think DBD is going in a good direction so far. But of course, nothing is perfect.
Even though there is no real competition for DBD in all honesty, I do think BHVR could learn something from its competitors.
F13 the Game
For all its flaws, F13 did do a few things right. The interaction between Jason and the counselors was spot on. Jason was by far the power role. He was in control. But, the counselors arent defenseless, and most of their item arsenal was focused on stunning Jason. And even then, your resources are limited. It was never frustrating to see certain counselors as Jason, because even the most powerful had fatal flaws for you to exploit. Every single powerful stat or item in F13 had a drawback. What made F13 unique for me was how thrilling it was to be so vulnerable but not defenseless. There werent infinites or long "loops" to rely on. Fast vaulting the same window damaged you. You had fall damage. And yet, it was still balanced out by how many stuns, practically instant healing and a respawn system (kinda) that the counselors had at their disposal. Plus how fast the police arrived, and how fast the car drove.
Also, a match time limit. Yes please.
RE Resistance
The only thing DBD can take from Resistance, considering how different they are is antagonist personality. The Mastermind dialogue and personality really made you connect with them. Daniel and Nicholai are popular for personality alone, not just gameplay.
I think what DBDs cast of characters (not just killers, survivors too) really lack is personality. Sure in cosmetic descriptions and lore, you can pick up on hints, but there isnt ever any personality shown during gameplay. Yeah sure Clown and Deathslinger laugh. What does that tell you about them? Nothing.
I suppose one can argue that the characters are left intentionally vague in order to allow the player freedom to make up their own canon. But as shown in games like Far Cry 5, having a blank slate as a protagonist is not a good thing

I would disagree that DBD needs to be more like F13 in terms of power role because in F13 there are 8(?) counselors but in DBD there are onlt 4 survivors.

killers are weak little sissies in this game because survivors need to be spoonfed in order to keep the cashflow numbers coming in
this game is not meant to be balanced in red ranks, it is meant to be a one sided slaughter
the devs intentionally make it imba cuz they are greedy - 80% coughs up the money

I liked characters personality in f13th aswell thats what I really missed when I switched to dbd.
In dbd, They have moaning voicelines but that's about it.

Or you know, they want people to actually play the game. There's a reason those other assymetrical games died.

it would be much, much more popular if it was balanced

Lol Jason could feel far more useless than a DBD killer if the survivors knew what they were doing and had the right perks. You slash them with a machete, no reaction. They hit you with a frying pan, instant KO and Jason goes down. People brought perks so that every hit was a KO.
What DBD needs from RE Resistance is points penalty rather than a timeout penalty, escalating to a timeout penalty for repeat offenders. That way you can dc due to bugs/trolls/hackers and just eat the points and only people who make a habit of it get an actual matchmaking ban.

I believe Evolve (man I loved that game, once you really understood how to play both sides it was fantastic, shame it taught you nothing) had a post-game map, just a 2D overhead map, that had little icons for where each player went and what they did throughout the game. It would play very quickly but it gave you a good idea of what happened each game. I believe there was also a replay system, but I'm less sure about that. It's been a few years. I would like one or both of these in DBD. Especially since as a killer I sometimes have no idea what the hell went wrong. And it would be great for when I'm survivor and the killer makes a beeline straight for where I am at the start of every game, no matter if I'm working a gen or just chillin' behind a bush waiting for him to patrol. Why me, killer? WHY?!

I always find it weird when people try to compare DBD to other dead(ish) games.
Like right now
- F13 has 106 players or 11.7 matches
- Last Year has 13 players or 2.6 matches
- RE has 320 players or 64 matches
- DBD has 40,594 or 8,118.8 matchs
I am not saying those games didn't have their good features, I am saying DBD is clearly the one doing things right because all of these games are newer than DBD yet none of them were good enough to make draw a way DBDs core base.
Honestly the best thing about F13 was the voice comms and how people roleplayed survivors over the comms. Yeah it got old after a while, but it was probably my favorite part of it. F13 was designed around a single killer with a specific set of skills. Also he is super strong because its 8v1 not 4v1. The reason they have many tools to stun the killer is because that single killer is very strong where in DBD there is a range of killers and much smaller maps. Survivors still have many ways to fight the killer, pallets, flashlights, DS, and head on.
As for RE, your lore issue, their is plenty of lore between the survivors and killers found in their bio's and cosmetic descriptions. The reason their lore probably doesn't make survivors feel unique is that I think the devs try to make it so you can play any survivor you want and modify them via perks. If they were to add active or passive effects to survivors based off their lore, than you would have a tier list of survivors because then certain passive or active abilities would better than others.

-F13 had a huge legal battle
-Last Year....sorry what game is that? I'm guessing poor marketing could be an issue I honestly don't know this one.
-RE is a game that's BUNDLED with another game RE3, so that turns many away. If RE was its own separate beast I think it would easily "compete" with DBD. I'll use the term lightly because DBD is basically the "Smash Bros of Horror".
-DBD has a decent player base and one of the most toxic.
If RE was not bundled with RE3 I know I would be playing a ton more RE than DBD. I enjoyed DBD for some time but many changes and mostly the communities constant toxicity has simply pushed me away. I don't hate the game or the Devs I just can't stand the people that play.

I finally found the gif of this example!
It was SUPER useful in learning why you did poorly, and where you nailed it. It also gives you insight into the behavior of your team and your enemies, so you can start to make educated guesses based on information from previous matches that you would've never otherwise seen.
