I'm narcing on all the rank 10-15 killers, not sorry
10-15 is by no means good for a survivor. Getting to 15 was so effortless, I didn't even know how the ranking system worked at the time. Upon reaching level 15, I have experienced an absurd gap between the skill level of survivors and killers. 4/5 games a survivor gets hooked within the first 10 seconds. If you take a look at many of this game's negative reviews and popular YouTube videos you might find a possible reason.
I don't think its any secret to veterans of this game that the difficulty switches at higher levels when you can pick and choose perks to make a super survivor and equip all your survivors with rare medkits which heal them instantly or flashlights that blind the killer immediately. I have seen many reviews stating that at "lower rank" (ie 1) the killer is essentially the victim of survivors harassment, rather than the other way around.
I think this is driving killers with poor self-esteem into "higher ranks" (ie 15) so that they don't have to deal with such oppressive survivors. I have played numerous games where the killer leaves instantly (an old tactic used in many games to lower their rank). And from a cynic's standpoint, it looks ridiculously easy to abuse this. I bet it wouldn't take more than 30 minutes to intentionally change your rank from 5 to 15 this way.
Another piece of evidence I use to support this is the fact that most of the killers I go against are using newer killers, which if DBD is like any other F2P game is usually done by veterans of the game. I admit, while I would never do it there may be people who dropped $5 for their 1 favorite movie baddie - but I find these people rarely stay with games and move on to the next novelty shortly after. The killers I go against seem absurdly knowledgeable.
Anyways, if you read this whole thing kudos. TLDR: Killers are throwing games to drop rank and play noobs because top tier survivors are too oppressive.
Signed,
Not a killer (seriously, I can't even get people to join my lobbys, what intern designed this game?)

So let me get this straight. In the same post you claim that it's possible to derank to level 15 in 30 minutes by intentionally quitting matches, but at the same time you can't get one match as a killer in 30 minutes? Amazing. Really.

so you keep dying at rank 15, thus the killers beating you must have downranked?
no. some downrank cuz bad or farming, but most just play.
no offense, but if you cant survive at rank15, you are inexperienced.
keep at it. youll get it eventually.4 -
Im a killer mostly, on ps4.
Games were confusing at 15-10 starting out new in the game, 10-8 ish was the swf r1 with lower ranks and bully games.
Rank 4 and up have actually been quite nice, maybe either better understanding of the game, better use of perks and addons, better pool of players or all of the above.
I learned to dodge the 3-4 man flashlight crews and all is well.0 -
"In 4/5 matches, a survivor gets hooked within the first 10 seconds"
Priceless
I think you got rekt by some killer or survivors who were better rank than you, and not being able to see it ass your own fault, thought, well if they beat me they are obviosuly smurfs so I will go make a forum post about how Im a crybaby who thinks hes some martyr for the communitee and is going to "narc".

The problem at rank 15-10 isn't the jump in skill, it's the fact that you're often paired with people who just don't care. My last jaunt into the game, 3-4 days ago was pretty much my final straw with DbD and completely due to the other survivors.
Match 1 - Immediate DC before map load.
Match 2 - Immediate suicide when hooked in the first min.
Match 3 - One DC before map load, first survivor suicides.
Match 4 - Killer DC's
Match 5 - Survivor DC's when map loads to The Game
Ran into that same survivor in next lobby and called him out, his response "I always DC on The Game and Lery's, deal with it."
Match 6 - All 3 teammates hook farming and trading with one another.
Match 7 - Immediate DC before map load.
Etc, etc etc...In almost 3 HOURS of play, I had ONE match that was 4v1, and each of my "teammates" were idiots just swapping places on the hook. I did the only 2 gens, a hook save, a shoulder escape (through wiggle), 2 hex totems, and was the last to die...and walked away with 5k BP for it, just...done.

And people will keep doing this until devs will fix the matchmaking

I just finished doing some Prestiging on my Survivors. Started at Rank 15, because apparently that's all the further you can derank from reset. I didn't notice anything different than prior runs as a Survivor. You get a much larger mix of experienced and potato players, but that goes for the Killer side as well. From Ranks 15-10ish, this is your standard mix.
From 10 and up, you get more experienced players and only some idiots. The idiots at these Ranks though tend to be the ones who want to teabag, flashlight, then DC when they get caught. I ended up at Rank 2 at my highest, think I'm at Rank 3 or 4 atm now though because I ran into major issues when I P3'd Dwight and had no Perks to use as crutches. We'll Make It, Urban Immersion, and Lithe make it so much easier...
One DC at Rank 15 means absolutely nothing. You can still rake in 15k+ BP and at least a Pip at that Rank. Even at higher Ranks, up until around Rank 8, you can consistently Pip and Rank up with only 2 other teammates. You won't escape most likely, but Pipping is a joke with the emblem system. Just do your own thing, go for saves when you can, and play smart instead of trying to be the Loopmaster Juker so you can show off on YouTube.
By the way, if a Survivor gets hooked in the first 10 seconds, you now have a chance to get a safe unhook + Altruism scores with the healing afterwards. Look for opportunities everywhere you can find them and you'll rank up, and level up, quickly. You only need a couple gens, an unhook + a heal, and a little chasing to pip. That's a pretty decent score as well.

Rank doesn't mean anything because they're reset 3-6x as often as they should be and offer no reward or incentive. It's not even bragging rights at this point, since the Emblem system made it easier to rank up in general.
I've updated my review of DBD on Steam, but it's still not Recommended due to the massive barrier for new players. This isn't an easy game to enjoy when you load into a match as a survivor with a few rank 1 perks, not knowing the value of Self Care, or how to use Sprint Burst, and then get bitchmade in 10 seconds by a Hillbilly that chainsaws into you 8-10s into a match from the other side of the map. Or the constant screaming by a Doctor with a 50 mile terror radius.
The fact is, you have to pretty damn dedicated to get into DBD, and it's just not a newbie friendly game at all. I got lucky with friends playing with me early on to get me acquainted, but things I hated playing against at the start are no less difference due to the swing of balance.
To this day, I still see many people quit against Doctor, which just makes me do it as well, since I don't care about rank or wasting time getting killed against one in a couple minutes.

It is more newbie friendly than it used to be, imo at least. They have all the different status effects lit up, Totems are explained better, and that Tutorial is pretty decent at giving you the basics. DbD has a much higher learning curve than most competitive games. You aren't going to come right into it and make all kinds of awesome moves. I find this one of the appealing parts of the game because at higher Ranks, you are running into people who play it because they enjoy it.
I've had quite a few matches where people quit and the Killer let me, and whoever was left, farm a bit. Depending on the Killer of course, most just want to get to the next game. It always amuses me that people say "Doctor isn't fun to play against so I DC." Which means you just ruined the match for the Killer and whoever was left in the game. Selfish in the extreme imo. Play the game, suck it up, and then move on to the next. I lobby dodge people who I see do that though, because usually they are toxic idiots and just want to ruin everyone else's fun by BM'ing the Killer and pissing them off.
I think part of the problem is that no one is patient enough with the newer players to help them out. They'll trash talk them in post-game instead of trying to offer some advice. Same in pre-game chat. At low Ranks, it helps to be a bit friendlier and give those new to the game a bit of help. Once they get over that initial hump, they may just love the game and become a good player. Being a dick when you're playing at Rank 14 or lower is pretty ridiculous. Love these pieces of human garbage who think it's okay to trash someone just because they are new and aren't that sure of what they're doing.

The forum would burst in flames. Survivors calling for hard bans when killers dc.
They don't see the wrong in their actions. Only care about their own fun.1 -
The fact that the game isn't newbie friendly, and it does take so long to learn, grind out decent perk builds, etc. Works as a great gatekeeper to keep casual players out of low ranks. Its one of the things that makes it so rewarding an experience imo. The game should absolutley cater to those who have put 1000+ hours in, because thats your dedicated playerbase.

Pretty much everything there's to say has already been said.
Still, there's one thing I'd like to clarify @2BadWaluigiTime : I know the numbers go down, but you are actually ranking up. Hence, the generally agreed upon terminology of the Ranks are:
- Low Ranks for Ranks 20-15
- (Low-Mid Ranks for Ranks 15-10)
- Mid Ranks for Ranks ~10
- (High-Mid Ranks for Ranks 10-5)
- High Ranks for 5-1
Only the terms in brackets aren't really used.

I don't know is it because I got better at the game but going from 8 to 1 was easier for me than when I was in the 15-9 range. My advice, just don't rage quit, losing 1 pip is not a big deal.0

Everything the op said here is spot on. After 900 hours in and making many friends I hear just about everyone i play with say the same thing. They hate the red ranks and rank means nothing. At best most people just say they want to get to rank 1 just once to say they did it and don't care after that.
I have also watched many streams of rank 1 survivors and killers, some of them considered the very good to great players say the same thing.. They hate red ranks. I have heard them say and actually do depip on purpose.
My own experience, i have hit the lowest rank and hit red ranks for the first time yesterday as a survivor.. The lowest I've been as a killer is rank 7. I'd have hit red ranks long ago if i just stuck with my favorite killer. As it is i'm just working on getting em all to prestige 3. Anywho I notice the exact same thing. The lower or "better" your rank the worse it gets. I use to say all the time I can't wait to get to the red ranks as survivor to face better killers with skill. More skill and less camping..
I found the opposite to be true, the lower my rank got the worse the camping got with all of them running noed. Then it hit me, it's the only way 98% of them can get there.. Then they get toxic anyway.
On the killer side of things the lower i get the worse the comments and toxicity gets. I find it comically mostly because they don't even know what my agenda was. Meaning most of the time i don't even care about my rank or winning matches i'm just working on prestiging. Heck most of the time i'm running a killer at rank 10 or below with killers i just presitged and have little to no perks and still hold my own. Yet the toxicity starts the moment the match is over.. "that was ez" "you suck" etc.
The funniest thing i seen the second these "best" or "very good" red rank survivors get caught, they ran out of pallets to use, they can't loop or waste your time anymore, they instantly dc.
I wish they would follow ps4 and just get rid of end game chat. It's that toxic.
So i gotta be honest here I have the exact same mentality. I just want to hit rank 1 once and i really won't care anymore. I'd rather stay up in the higher ranks. Not because it's easier or to do better.. the players are far more friendly any and the game is just far more fun
That is pretty sad but very true.

I think people here are completely missing the point. I don't hate the ranking system, I like it honestly. I think it does a good job at making several playstyles valid while being good at everything will often lead to you getting a double rank up. What this thread is about is how difficult it is without high level perks, but MORE IMPORTANTLY how EASY the game is for survivors when you do have the higher level perks. The game becomes oppressive for higher rank players and so they deflate their rank to play against survivors WITHOUT these overpowered perks and items.
