Is the Entity the outer god Azathoth?
So I was sitting in my living room playing dbd and I remembered something about the Entity the observer said. Now I'm also a big Lovecraft fan and let me tell you when I started to think about this, the more excited I got. What if the Entity is Azathoth?
The Observer did refer to the Entity as an "Old One". If you don't know what that is, the great old ones are ancient gods that roamed the earth when it was created. The oldest of these gods is Azathoth.
Now back to my theory. I have read about the Entity in the official wiki and it is shockingly similar to Azathoth. Both are primordial beings who have control over time & space and feed from pocket dimensions they create. Also, Azathoth is depicted with spider/squid-like appendages.
I might seem a little crazy for thinking this but the similarities are too perfect. What do you all think? Is this just the rambling of a mad man or am I on to something?

Isn’t there a map with that name aswell? Or is my little dyslexic mind getting confused.

You're thinking of Azarov, Wraith's former boss, who has the map Azarov's Resting Place named after him.
It's an interesting idea, to be sure. I haven't put much time into looking into the potential similarities but I wouldn't call a few potential links enough to prove it. Certainly an option with what I know now though.

Seems interesting. I doubt the devs will go for it though, they seem to want their own characters to be completely original.

I'm a little rusty on the Old One's, but isn't Nyarl....thingy also depicted as spiderlike? I think their lore fits pretty well too iirc

I would think if the entity is supposed to be connected to the lovecraft universe he would be a new creature.
Maybe an old one, not yet heard of

From what I remember azathoth's form is that of a blackhole in the middle of the milkyway galaxy so what your saying makes more sense.
That being said however the eldritch have multiple forms like Haster(C'thulu's brother) has 2 main forms being the "king in yellow"(Tentical monster in a yellow robe like slime) and "it which feeds from afar"(Purple mutant werebat like form)

Nyarlothotep is generally depicted as a mass of tentacles. Or a cute anime girl if you play Force of Will TCG.

in a way it would make sense since the creatures from the Cthuhlu Mythos are extra-dimensional and could possibly quite easily control their form.
Also, much like the thing from IT, it's form in the book is described as "the closest form that the human mind can comprehend is that of a spider" which is not a direct quote, but close enough for this. It could be a similar case.
