Rating Matchmaking for survivor ?
Hello :)
So i'm really happy about the Rating matchmaking for killers because if you are a god at Trapper and a terrible Nurse you won't be matched against god survivors as Nurse for example.
But i was wondering about survivors.
How does the system rates survivors ? Is it by % of victory/loss against a certain killer ? It would be interesting if it was the case, so people who are really good against a particular killer would only play against very good players using this killer.
----------
What do you think ?
----------
I was just wondering and i cannot wait for the next Q&A to get answers to my questions and answers for questions i didn't think off ahah.
Stay safe and see ya in the Fog !

They won't tell us, because the new MMR is just a straw man, to make us stop complaining about bad matchmaking.
7 -
We are not explaining how the MMR is calculated - it's pretty normal to keep those conditions under wraps to prevent any exploiting of the system.
And no, this is not a strawman, the MMR system is a very real thing that's been in development for quite some time. However, it is going to take some time to accurately start to matchmake whilst everyone's MMR score is fully calculated.

i don't think it's bad, i played two matches (1 on each side) and even tho the survivor one was against a rank 16 Clown, we all died and had a tought fair match, while as killer i killed them all but they still managed to get to 1 gen left and were 2 purple, 1 red and one brown (i'm green) so when you look at it it's a balanced matchmaking.

Agreed, for me it took several matches, but it seems to have evened out. Generally, it goes like this.
- Two games in a row where I die, were stomps, but now not so much.
- One game where I escape, were stomps at first, but now the killers are doing ok in these games.
If the games follow close to this pattern it should be decent. Escaping 1/3 games sounds right for a mediocre solo queue survivor like myself.

Ok then, if it really was working better than the old system, then why not replace the old system with the new? What's the point of having a rank that doesn't mean anything and your mmr rank completely hidden?
1 -
Oh sorry didn't see your answer ^^ Thank you for it Mandy <3 I guess it has to stay secret then ;)
See you in the the Fog ! <3

Didn't @Almo claim it was running int he background for weeks already? How long can the system take, or was he just making that up? It's hard to trust when you mods keep contradicting each other.
5 -
While I understand and agree that we shouldn't know HOW it's calculated, will we have access to what that score actually is so we can asses for ourselves if the system is working in addition to being able to track our improvement with each role and killer character?
0 -
It was running in the background but it wasn't used for matchmaking at this time, so because of that the current MMR is not fully accurate as you've seen - which settles within around 10 matches (10 matches with each of your various killers)....the system has been out for only a short while.
@SpaceCoconut I believe all this will remain hidden, if people can see their MMR it will be pretty easy to figure out what increases/decreases it so it will possibly be open to abuse at that time.
4 -
People still don't even know how to calculate MMR based on games like Overwatch which are far less complex than DBD...
0 -
Rainbow overwatch and other games can do it without abuse i don't see why thisd be a problem for dbd. Especially when dbd isnt supposed to be competitive anyway.
2 -
Understandable.
Hopefully the new ranking system mentioned before will give utilize the MMR scores in order to give us the feedback we need to determine how well we're doing compared to other players and whether we're improving in skill or not.
Also, I'm looking forward to ladders and leaderboards if they're being considered also.

You probably shouldn't even say that it would be easy to figure out if it was shown. That gives quite a few very plausible possibilities on why it isn't shown and what determines the MMR.
I also get the feeling that if it's there, players/dataminers will eventually figure out how it works. Maybe not but I would bet they will.

I definitely don't have a problem with hiding the exact MMR to avoid people abusing how it's done. That being said, you could probably give people a roughly rounded MMR number to give them a rough idea of where they currently stand. So if the ratings are, say, between 1000 and 3000 then don't show the exact number but you could show the number rounded to the nearest 100 (e.g. 1500 instead of 1533.56). It's not likely anybody would be able to parse much detail out of that.

Personally i like the new matchmaking. I do hope BHVR decides to hide the ranks.
I know people have issues with this but all it does is cause drama.
1 -
Agreed. There’s no point in keeping the ranks visible since ranks don’t mean anything now with the new MMR system and it’s just causing more issues. @MandyTalk @Almo Will you guys be hiding the ranks down the road? Doesn’t make sense keeping them.
1 -
I don't have a definite answer on that. I personally hope they will be removed, but I don't make the decisions :)
2 -
Well as I don't know the conditions for how it's worked out - I'm not exactly giving away any secrets here!

No problem. Thank you for responding :)

The matchmaking post did say they are planning to add incentive rewards for the ranks, but I think it should be disabled in the meantime.

@MandyTalk Do you know if they planning on ever giving any info on how the MMR works? I had made the assumption they'd give at least a little data once it had been out for a bit, but that could've been a faulty assumption. I personally would like a general idea at how well I'm doing, though I do understand why it would be have to be hidden.
Also, about ranks, they had said they were going to change what it means, potentially make it linked to a reward system, but they were more concerned about getting the new matchmaking system up and running first.

@Stormhaven13 we will have more information made available on the forums that will answer a lot of questions, over the coming days.

So it's sucks for me. I get matched with idiots that don't have a clue how to play survivor ranked against a killer that puts us all on the hook in 2 minutes. This game isn't fun anymore. 10 matches in a row I've gotten killers way better than me and the people i'm grouped with are clueless. All this algorithm is doing is making me have to look for a new game to play.
0 -
Yes, as a new player i can say that GAME IS WORSE NOW
WHAT IS THIIIS. This. Is NOT. Fair. Bill litterally just bought the game, nice?
We litterally couldn't make ANY GEN
The next game, cool? Yeah, yeah, new MMR is so cool, keep it up bhvr

Cool awesome. Thanks for the quick response!
Read this whole thread. It takes at least 10 games for the algorithm to stabilize, and I honestly wouldn't expect everything to be fully stable for at least a week, maybe longer.
If you're new, this might be a rough time for you, and you might want to wait a week or two for this to stabilize, it seems like everyone's ranks have reset (basically). After that, hopefully it will be much better. That's the idea.

I'll prefer not playing too weeks then playing and getting bullied by guys who have 1k+ hours and me who has like 20 or 30, not much more
Everyone: rank system is absolutely destroyed, it doesnt work...
*new mmr system knocks in*

Then don't play for a bit. This whole time should honestly be considered sort of like a PTB. Being a new player and going against experienced ones sucks, I get it. I've been there. If you're not having fun, take a break and come back later. This is a massive overhaul, it's going to be a bit chaotic for a while.
1 -
To say that they keep the ranks hidden is stupid. What are players suppose to work for then? Not everybody that plays this game wants to just go in and goof off in the game.
Some of the experienced players we enjoy the more technical parts of the game, like linking perks together to make plays like using unbreakable with soul guard to save a team mate from a camping killer then save with BT to save a team mate.
Or efficient looping combined with mind games to out play the killer.
Newer players havent been playing long enough to know these things yet.
So when im searching for team mates to play with i can no longer be like searching for red ranks? I dont wanna play just to play and have fun, i wanna be competitive and feel like im better than the killer.
Nothing is better than playing a game and watching the killer lose his rank because he over committed to chasing me or a team mate and lost the game because of it.
As well as having bragging rights over your buddies about whos the better.
Watching your buddy depip because he didnt do enough last game gives us something to laugh about while we wait 30 minutes for our next match as well as now he knows he needs to maybe do an extra gen or be more altruistic next game to make sure he gets his rank back.

It might not be that way forever. They rushed this out without making a UI system or changing ranks because (in their mind) the actual matchmaking is more important. Now, I have not heard for sure how they are going to display the ranks to players, or if they will at all. I have heard that they are giving us more information about the system in general "very soon", I believe some sort of FAQ. However, the general reason for not giving players rank information is to avoid players gaming the system. How much BHVR will end up sharing however, I have no idea.
This is honestly my biggest critique of the devs for this process, whatever information they are planning on giving us "soon" should have been available before the system came out. That is one of the largest sources of confusion right now, that no one really knows what to expect out of this system. I'm not talking about the people complaining that they've played 2 games, so the whole system sucks, that's just reactionary. But the other people who are legitimately confused about this stuff and how MMR systems work in general, that could have been fixed by explicitly warning your player base that matchmaking will be a little chaotic for a bit. That's technically been done, but not in a succinct, easily accessible way. It should be top of the forums, big news post. But instead people have to go searching in forum posts to get answers from forum admins who only have so much information.

I was just in the post called we demand to be shown our mmr score or something and i believe her name is mandytalks or something similar to that is a mod and said they do not intend to show us any part of the score as then it could be manipulated ect.
Edit : im retarted they posted in this thread its currently the 3rd post.

Yep I was in the same thread. They were not 100% sure, though they believed that. It doesn't mean we will have no information, just not an explicit score. They could give us absolutely nothing, and if that's the case I don't love that, but we don't know anything for sure right now.

I absolutely hate the new system. Majority of my matches have been more than frustrating. I'm glad the penalty for leaving has temporarily been removed!
I would like to understand this "skill factor," that they are talking about. If I am completing two gens, getting a few saves, and escaping the killer, why am I being placed with another player that spends majority of their time in a locker, or exploding generators? Are people purposely trying to down rank? I understand there is no perfect system to balancing a game, but was the old system that bad? I enjoyed my matches with a close 50/50 ratio with the old system.
I don't want to be too critical of this change, but I have not enjoyed the game since this change went live.

Honestly it will piss people off at first but be a positive in the long run.

The new system have been here in the background for a little time, that just means that older players have their MMR calculated or next to be calculated while new players are yet to get it since they didn't play enough game for the system to give them a MMR.
So if you feel like you are getting "screwed" by the system, just play a little more and get your base MMR, it should fix it for you.
Also ranks doesn't mean skill but time spent on the game this month.
And hours can be tricky to use for comparaison as time in lobby, store, archives etc are counted in the hours played and that some people actually main a side meaning that a 2K hours player who mains survivor can go and play killer as rank 20 and still have 2K hours in the game ^^
Hours doesn't mean skill either, but means knowledge about the game mechanics. I'm have over 1.2K hours and i'm still an average survivor and killer ;)
