Why are tome levels locked?

Isnt it just an artifical grind by locking upcoming tome levels? I already finished level 1 and I would like to continue with level 2. But I can't. I have to wait. But I have time to play NOW and later not much anymore.

Most likely because each challenge awards Rift Shards, and god forbid you get too high up there too fast. Either pay for it or grind it out. I personally think it's a joke.

just your daily reminder that other games do it much better and have a good value to them.

The reason for it is to keep people simply playing the game and give you something to do rather than waiting for new chapter or PTB. I feel that personally.

Yep. Puts you in a time crunch situation encouraging you to pay to complete it.

It should have never been tied into the rift, as the rift is a cash grab like all battlepasses.

It really is. The first Rift I completely missed the last 25 levels due to burn out trying to grind out the levels since some challenges were just stupid difficult for me. Tome 2 and 3 I've hit 70 in, but it really wasn't worth it. This tome, I might just give it a complete miss. Get to whatever level I do.

    hey so is destiny!

    *surprised face*

It's almost like games even free to play games like apex or destiny know how to offer good value and not waste your time. Im over halfway through the pass on d2 as of 8/5/20 (today) and I have 96 days left on the pass, even if the dlc didn't get delayed by 2 months Id easily be able to grind through the whole pass. as I have only been playing consistently for about 3 weeks as I have started back up in prep for the next expansion.

The wait time between levels is pretty long, if they were releasing once a week it would be a lot more bearable.

I also don't like that the levels are locked.

I already bought the premium pass, since there are a lot of cosmetics in there, that I like. However, I don't have time to play the whole upcoming week (when lvl 2 is released). I have time now and already finished lvl 1.

I also think it's kinda dumb that the levels are locked, especially since the rift is only open for 70 days and you need to complete it in that time, if you want all the rewards. So if you are on vacation or have a busy week and can't play during that time, the time is basically taken from you.

The rift is already very grindy imo and the locked levels don't really help that.

So your solution to potential burnout is to give you something that is the more likely to burn you out.

The challenges by themselves are not enough to get you to let you hit tier 70 which usually means after you complete the challenges or in your case leave the challenges that you consider too difficult you would still have to do the same amount of grinding you did before. you would probably be more burnt out considering you just all rushed a bunch of challenges

It's an artificial time gate for progress.

They don't want players to grind through the rift in a short period of time, the goal is to get you to play as long as possible.

To keep incentives for you to continue playing during the month. I could be wrong but I believe that's why. I wouldn't mind it being open all the time so we have something to focus on. Even if it meant only extra BPs after a certain amount, it would still keep the game fresh with rewards.

You really should be able to progress The Tome at your own discretion. I'm not a big fan of artificial bottlenecks and gating just to extend content.

    1. To extend the duration
    2. To prevent burnout

DBDs is pretty good value, hell i only bought the first one, the rest i have bought with the shards you get from the tome itself.

I came back after a long break right before the new rift released. Decided to buy the battle pass - I ain't ever gonna buy one again! I did ALL the first lvl challanges of the new tome and after doing them all I realized what grind each level is if you don't get the boost from the challanges. For example I am on lvl 15 to 16 since yesterday. Seeing how slow the progress is makes me want to quit. Also buying ONE rift lvl is 100 Auric Cells. Thats 8000 cells to unlock eveything. Thats 10€ for the pass + 80 bucks in worst case to unlock the whole thing if you can't play much or for whatever reason.

I ain't gonna buy ANY lvls with cells and I also won't buy another "premium" pass. It's just plain grind and makes one want to stop playing instead of encouraging the opposite.
