No, I mostly play Huntress and Deathslinger. I’m pointing out logically what will happen, exploiting would happen if the killers weren’t locked, most of the DbD community will exploit anything they can for a win.

Edit: I personally cannot wait until I can play more Trapper and Nurse games, I suck at both of their powers and it’ll be refreshing to go against someone my own skill level in that domain.

But the entire concept is that you dont face those strong swf if you play one of your weaker killers. So the situation you brought up should never happen anyway.

If the new matchmaking works is actually another question.

Can anyone tell me whats happening about "Killer lock"?

Killer is no more able to change characters in lobby?

    The pros outweigh the cons.

Not killers. Just a small portion of them. There's always going to be a vocal minority.

@ BHVR can we please make it so that you don't make Killer worse when you are trying to make matchmaking better

The problem is survivors can still use the exploit that lets them see which killer is in the lobby and now there's no way to counter it. From what I can tell the devs haven't said anything about fixing this issue, so it's entirely possible they'll release the lock before fixing the exploit.

We can only hope that they fix it before it's release...

Any updates on a "lock in" for survivors?

It's how they decided the MMR to work with, we will have to get used to it whether we like it or not, it'll hopefully improve in the long term.

Also it'd be bad if you got a new killer you want to learn but you're matched with rank 1 sweats instead, that's not the way to go.

My issue is that survivors can last second switch to keys/flashlights/maps, which completely negates my ability to bring an appropriate loadout (ie Lightborn, Franklin's, Hexless build, etc)

If every single survivor has the ability to manipulate the game's odds without any way to counter (aside from scummily task managering while loading, I guess), it's a garbage system.

Edited to tag @Almo with hopes this will actually be addressed.

Welp, guess it's an apparent non-issue.

Daily reminder that last second switching destroys the integrity of the new MMR system, putting Killers at an unfair disadvantage before the match even starts.

It's even worse when survivors are able to tell who is the killer in the lobby

Yea I'm not a fan of this is either :( But we might get used to it though. But that's a if.

I doubt that I'll get used to people switching to two maps, a key, and flashlight at the last second without any way to react.

    It's trash.

just dodge the lobbies, when it happens to them oftene nough they'll wonder why it's happening and either change their loadout accordingly or get used to longer waiting in order to rush or pull off their swf antics. If they ever do something crappy like start counting lobby dodge as a disconnect, then see if killing the process mid load works, and if not, just start to afk those matches in a corner looking into the sky until once again hey ask themselves why it keeps happening to them and change their approach until it stops. That should also offset your good matches enough that you should take longer hitting the point where there is no potato ever filling out a 2 or 3 man lobby, and where no swf will ever be potato again. so that you'll still be able to finish the harder rift challenges.

Especially when an SWF can literally just open a log file with text editor and find out who the killer is. Bad decisions on top of worse design.

It's annoying, but at least I will be able to use killers that I don't play well. Now if I try to git gud as Oni at rank 1 I get stomped

Even if that is patched (they say it is, currently), the Last Second Switch still throws fair play out the window.

It's not, well, at least it wasn't like 2 weeks ago when I went to see if it was true. It takes 10 seconds to google how to do it and it's stupidly easy. There are cheats that do other things that have it integrated too. It's just dumb to put it in the log at all.

As a mostly survivor player I'd be okay with this too. Makes very little sense to lock the killers and not the survivors. At the end of the day if you didn't prep the right perks and items beforehand, that's on you. Would save killers the pain of last second switch survivors.

There are lots of easy fixes, but they all have to wait until the issue is actually acknowledged and treated as such.

Reminder that Last Second Switching is still a thing and blows out the integrity of matches, especially if you're locked into a killer with minimal perks/add-ons.

I thought they encrypted it now? If you open it as raw text it's a bunch of random symbols now. Something I must be missing?

If I had to choose between killers having different ranks and being able to switch killers in lobby, I'll take switching killers in lobby.

It's not like it's a mutually exclusive choice. Why can't I switch anyhow and still have my matchmaking based off individual killer ranks? Is the worry that I'll search with a killer I don't use to find low-rank survivors, then switch to one I'm better at? If that was the case, why can't I at least switch to killers that are close in range to the rank of the killer I used to matchmake with?

I think dates of posts are important. Therefore you should too. Make note of them.

What you did was like replying to a post complaining about double pallets from 2018 and saying "but they fixed dem tho".

Now that MMR is disabled, you should be able to switch killers again.

Until MMR is not working as promised, that is a nonsense.

  • Raccoon
    Raccoon Member Posts: 7,722

Now that MMR is coming back, looks like last second switching is a permanent 'feature.'

  • Yords
    Yords Member Posts: 5,781

Yeah, it is pretty lame especially since survivors can switch their characters last second to something like a 4-man SWF squad with medkits.

    @Raccoon

The whole killer lock came after a bug where u would que up with one killer and switch to another then ur end game would be bugged.

    • For example - Que up as huntress, switch to Freddy. End game shows huntress power and no perks.

    BHVR came with a statement

"We're locking killers so MMR can be more accurate"

You'd think someone at BHVR could code to differentiate the killer you're queing as and the killer you are actually playing in the match.

    ------

Ontop of this, when MMR was activated for the first time and killers lock was a thing there was also this issue.

    • Let's say you main Freddy but u que up as Huntress even though you barely play her, you have some perks, she might not be fully leveled, etc. You load into a game as huntress, you see 4 toolboxes, then you switch to Freddy. What MMR would do is put you against rank 20s because you selected a killer that u very rarely play or don't have a lot of wins on. This also applies vice versa. Problem is, you maintain all of your knowledge of the game when u que up as huntress and everything that comes with it. So you would end up with a Rank 1 Huntress going against rank 20 players that barely know how to move forward...

To say the least, it was a very dark time for DBD as it was enabled FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK.

Well, that's how it worked. But it's BHVR so MMR was also broken.

I experimented with 30+ games as Freddy when MMR was first activated. I played at rank 1 and maintained my rank troughout the test, you'll see why in a second. Out of those 30+ matches, only 3 or 4 were with red ranks survivors. I would go up against Green, yellow EVEN BROWN rank survivors 70-80% of the time.

Then again, this wouldn't have happened if MMR took notice of your rank, your % of wins, etc and no matter if que as a lvl 1 bubba, you would still end up with survivors with the same ranks as you. You maintain your knowledge of the game, regarding if you're playing a killer for the first time or playing a killer for the 1000 time. Not just this, but what could u learn from going against rank 20 as a rank 1 playing a new killer? That he can down survivors? Perfect.... Not to mention that if you go against the same rank as you, you would adapt much faster & learn a lot more than playing against rank 20.... God damn your spaghetti code BHVR
