Unpopular Opinion: Oni doesn't belong in DbD
He isn't horror-themed, he's just a strong af demon. I love him, but he just feels out of place.
Okay guys, you've changed my view. Thank you and I now have new appreciation for him, I'm playing him a lot now!

Are demons not horror

In lore he killed his father and pretty much everyone who called him "Oni" or said something he didin't like.He was overrun by many farmers and left to die and thats when the entity took him.

True. His lore is epic. He still feels kinda out of place IMO.

I think he do belong. We already have supernatural Killers. Also he wasn't born demon. He became demon.

You're right, this opinion is unpopular which is to say very few if anyone shares it with you.

You could argue that other killers aren't horror themed too. Huntress is just a lady that throws hatchets. Deathslinger is just a guy with a harpoon gun. Legion are just young people that run a bit fast. Not sure why Oni is the problem here.

Not my opinion

Oni represents horror better than a group of edgy teenagers with broken rulers and paper cutters as weapons.
Did I mention they have papper plates masks?

I think its just because he is new and different from what we're used to see in the media, i used to have the same opinion on Plague, spirit, Demo and Deathslinger but after some time i got used to them and couldn't see them fitting anywhere else.

DISAGREE. As someone who is larger than the average person, seeing someone taller than my 6'6" build is seeing someone taller than me and twice the thiccness is absolutely terrifying, especially when they're wielding a giant sword and a solid wooden pole the diameter of my leg and can do so with a surprising amount of force.

I still remember my first time playing against Oni. I think it was the most terrifying round I ever played in DBD. Normaly DBD feels like a tactic-game, but that round it was a pure horrorgame. So in my eyes he fits perfectly into the game.

Doom Guy thinks not!

Killer or survivor side?
KILLER!
If you say so :\

Leave Bam Bam alone. Arguably the most dangerous (scariest?) killer when in blood fury.

I mean if you say that about Oni, what about the Deathslinger ? It's a cowboy with a harpoon-gun.
Or the Trapper that is just a dude using bear traps or even the Legion that are a group of angry kids ^^
When you judge by look they aren't horror-themed, but their lore make them fit in the game ;)

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but personally when i hear that roar and see him thundering across the map with the intent of turning me into survivor jam, I'm plenty fkn scared!

He fills the quintessential "Brute Force" horror cliche. You can't fight it, you can't run from it. It is coming for you, and you are powerless.
There's more to "flashy" horror than slasher films.

Deathslinger doesnt fit at all either.
Trapper is discount Jason, same as Hillbilly is discount Leatherface.

If you start saying this and that are not horror so they don't belong you just end up with an empty canvas.
Dbd isn't really a horror game anymore anyway, I'd say it's more of an asymmetric survival game. The only thing horror based is the killers appearance and the intensity of the heartbeat.

They all fit. There is a myriad of horror out there and every one of the DBD killers could be in a film hunting survivors. Just because some elements of the horror are culturally different from each other doesn't make them any less appropriate for the game.
