Was I the only one getting okay MMR Games the last twoish days?

For the first several days it was pretty brutal. Between the jerks and that bad MMR I was ready to go. (Still could but was convinced to stay around a bit longer.)

...Ahh if only the game people were as great as the forum people are... Truly you guys/gals rock the house.

But the last 2 days have been great.

Yes I get reds and greens and browns mismatched all over the place. I ignored that and looked at game play only.

Gameplay itself was mostly balanced in terms of teammates and killers, skill level, and gameplay style. (Not perfect -we still had the trolls and the sandbaggers etc) but for the most part it was no bad at all. 8/10 Felt like they were more in sync skill level etc.

Am I alone here?

    I had mixed results.

PS4 My survivor games ranged from rank 20 to rank 1 killers mainly on the lower end though so I was felt like the MMR wasn't working. I know ranks "doesn't matter" in the matchmaking, but having new to the game killers that didn't even equip their 1 perk vs someone with 2,000+ hours isn't right.

PS4 Killer - I had one initial game with 3 new players (1-2 perks equipped) and 1 purple, but after that initial game my killer games went back to the usual all red ranks (probably due to the time of day I play)

Just started playing on PC with some survivor games and it has mainly been killers with 1,000+ hours. My 2nd game was a 3,000 hour Billy with my having less than an hour play time, so I felt like MMR wasn't working then either.

So survivor games were terrible, but my killer games were business as usual.

My games were very much like yours, 8/10 games felt fair. Guess we're magical unicorns

    Interesting.

Some of the 1000+ killers I was against with my team were seriously as potato bad as we were. :-) It's why I started ignoring the ranks and focused on gameplay only. Literally is was mostly good compared to the bad it was.

Hmm I am so confused as to why I seem to get the opposite of everyone else. It's not the first time I've seen that happen. I don't get it. So weird.

    I'm on PC.

I'm glad idf majority were having the issues still that it's off for now then.

How I feel: (I hope i t changes - I wanna be in sync with all of you!)

    Sorry I missed this.

I feel a little less alone now thank you!

I was starting to seriously wonder.

Are you on PC as well?

No you're not alone overall I felt most of my games were rather closer than the typical I stomp them or they stomp me (usually the latter in the evenings when I play) scenarios. I still got the occasional swat squad but you get em now and then and they are usually really toxic to play against so you just roll with the punches and ignore em. I definitely didn't feel the need to tunnel and camp as often.

I don't know how some survivors might have felt after our games though as there were a lot of 1 red rank and 3 yellow rank games where I'd focus a lil more on the higher rank player, (you can tell by the quality of chases), and still no gens would pop even after they looped me really well before the down.

I guess if one person says hey that game was great and everyone else goes ugh horrible then there is a problem.

Most games felt 'fair' though win or lose.

Playing survivor was a bit more of a mixed bag but I'm a complete potato who doesn't play survivor that often so can't really speak about that with any authority. We'll have to wait and see what comes next.

my killer games were good, survivor was kinda random. I had the feeling that i got relatively appropriate survivors when playing different killers, more sweaty ones with spirit and more chill ones with demogorgon. I didnt try out completely new killers, cannot comment on that.

After they turned it off, the games were the typical shitfest that i had before (not more than 1 on a gen, many OoO, good items), which drives me to play the better killers only right now.

I had no problems with it personally. But obviously other people did so I'm not surprised it's been temporarily disabled while they work on it some more.

My games were fine. Usually started getting red ranks after 5 games with an unplayed killer.

Probably half of mine felt good as a rank 10 newer player who plays both sides. It felt way too bouncy though in that one game I would do great and the next it'd put me with people very noticeably better then the next game would feel like a rank 20 game if I did poorly.

I could feel it somewhat working but it needs to jump around less drastically and have more clarity for the players in the form of some kind of number or rank they can see. Also needs to be a LOT kinder to new players.

My games have been pretty good aswell, Lots of close matches, not very one-sided and most of them could've gone either way whereas now it is more of the usual stomp or get stomped shitshow where one side is clearly dominating the other from the get-go and it is obvious how the game's gonna go.

I also had very even games. Don't get me wrong, I had the oddball of a rank 20 against reds now and then but most of my games were fairly close and I'm actually a little bummed they removed it.

I know a lot of other people had issues though so I get why they removed it and I look forward to them tweaking it and reinstating it later on.

Edit: Something I did notice was that after a big loss was normally when we got the rank 20's. If me and my buddy kept getting out we got decent killers but after a match where we all died hard at like 4-5 gens we'd get paired with a really low rank. I also noticed if the killer dodged the lobby then the next one coming in would be a bit more random for skill.

When everyone stayed in the game and it wasn't a complete stomp the game before it worked really well for me. With all the complaints about the system though I am likely an outlier.

I think it's a toss up and you just get thrown in a random match I don't see how there's any kind of system to this with the way ranks have been

I had two distinctly different experiences with MM.

First, playing shortly after MM went live and playing on my mains. Honestly it was a bit of a mess. There were several times when I'd get matched with newer survivors I should never have gotten against and others where I'd get the normal hyper efficient all red squads.

Second, a few days ago getting Deathslinger and playing him for the first time after dumping ~1mil BP into him. My build was decent and my killer basics (even on a 110 killer) are solid but I'm still pretty bad with his spear gun. The matches with him have... honestly seemed very balanced. It didn't start me out against hyper efficient red ranks, which is good because I honestly wouldn't have been able to handle them.

From all of that... it seems that it handles things exceptionally well IF your initial placement was reasonably close. If your initial placement was not close then MM would end up being terrible for you.

Okay I'm going to do this in all caps but not yelling - only for stressing.

NOW I FEEL BAD FOR BHVR! lol I didn't before I do now.

Seems the squeaky wheel got the grease but it may not be accurate as we unicorns had nothing to complain about so were silent.

    Dang.

So I'm going to do two polls, if I can, and I hope you will all participate so we can see some forum numbers.

I honestly find the forum users much more reasonable, honest, and frankly think you all are top notch trustworthy people. Maybe these polls will help us all see the numbers better.

    XO Let's see.

and please keep posting you half unicorn, unicorn and non-unicorn experiences as I really was thinking I was going crazy with what I was seeing and experiencing.

Poll coming within the hour (I've never tried to do one before so thats if the forum allows me to.)

My matchmaking was fine it was almost always red and purple killers. The EXCEPTION i found was if the original killer i was matched with dodged the lobby that is when i would get a 20-18 killer. Maybe it was coincidence but i don't think so.

It didn't function for every killer. Most of my Nurse games were over within 3 gens and the games never got more difficult. I 4k'd 18 out of 20 Billy games and was still getting fresh accounts. I suggest QA

First couple of days were rough but then it balanced out and games felt pretty fair on both sides. Sure there were a few stomps on either side but nothing too crazy. Today it's back to max sweatiness and I'm not into that. Sad.

Quality Assurance, Question / Answer - or both :-)

I am thinking the killer thing has to do with the character progression more than MMR.

If you have a main killer and try a new one, the progression is the same (level whatever) - that I think is having an impact, or was, on the MMR a bit.

A new killer needs to start off slowly and progress like a brand new player IMHO.

I was absolutely starting to get really good matches.

I didn't take a screenshot of every end of round match (I was actually started to take screenshots of post-game chat to see how often I get toxic people, nothing so far in a few dozen games, everything is either gg or no response) so there's a big gap between the first and second image, but for the past few days I've gotten a lot of really good matches. Many of them I only get my kills once the exit gates are open because I still suck as a nurse and lose track of people in half a second in tall grass/corn maps.

It was pretty decent for me, with the casual game against 4 rank 20s.

So overall even though some of the progress numbers for the players was off - you felt good about the matches (not the toxic dumb dumbs though but they'll never leave until the rest of us make it miserable for them to stay lol) but overall good, yes?

I had a few pretty good games but the bad games outweighed the good.

It was more common to meet new players than anything.

  • Xbob42
    Xbob42 Member Posts: 1,117

Yeah, none of my matches were stomps at all. Frankly I think I only got the kills I did because I'm starting to get the hang of the nurse and she can really end chases quickly if you get your blinks right. As I said, often it was near the end of the game after I'd only gotten a couple hooks because I suck at finding stealth players. I did get a few SWF matches, and they were tougher, but it wasn't like sweaty SWF, it just seemed like friends on Discord or something.

Overall it was starting to really feel good, I had plenty of losses, too, but didn't want to spam the thread.

    MaybeShesCrazy Member Posts: 337

Info is good and not spam :-)

It was nice to see the numbers and most importantly - knowing how you felt about the matches in general.

I've had number 2 killers and 20 teammates with incredibly satisfying matches for everyone. Enjoyable ones for all.

It was super nice and fun.

I am on pc indeed, running around as killer in the red ranks. Which today my matches as killer have been against people who seem like they have no idea what to do even though they are red.

I created an account just so I could write this: Please for the sake of all things that are good bring the MMR back. Sure at first it was weird but at least I didn't have to wait 47mins just to find a game. There were good games and bad games and really good games and really bad ones and everything in between. As it should be.

Now it's back to the way it was when I decided to quit this game. Wait forever for a game and when you find one; they're all exactly the same. Copy paste. I know how the game is going to go before it even starts. That's not what I want.

I loved the mixed games. Sure some were just terrible when me and three 20s got matched against rank 1 killers. But sometimes even those games ended up being fun. Now the experience is just boring and repeating itself. Just like it was when I quit this game. I don't want to quit again but I just don't see a point in repeating the same match endlessly hoping for it to change all while hearing Vaas in my head telling me about the definition of insanity.

I felt like it was ok. My killer matches got less hellish, and my survivor matches got a little more challenging, so improvements all around for me.

It worked since day one for me. Playing my main (nurse) would always make me go against swf and really high level survivors while playing killers such as ghosty boi, clown, plague - would match me up with more chill survs, although still not fair enough since they weren't red ranks, but okeyish?

Same experience when playing survivor (as solo though), good teammates.

But it might be related with my region and the hours i usually play at (Argentina-Brazil, usually late at night).

  • Iron

  • shelobster
    shelobster Member Posts: 272

Now that MMR is gone every game is us (me) fixing 1-3 generators and then all of us dying on our 3rd hook. And for some reason the rank system chooses to punish me by keeping me in the red ranks even though every game I go into is guaranteed to be a 4k for the killer and I can't catch a break with easier games due to my rank which in no way reflects my skill imo. And I really don't want to start disconnecting just to get my rank down.

  • OldHunterLight
    OldHunterLight Member Posts: 3,001

With the mmr I had new survivors every match, it made the game boring for me, when I played killer I had a new killer.

Without it I'm having fun right now.

  • LordCyphre
    LordCyphre Member Posts: 195

Easy games don't equate to fair matchups though, quite the contrary.

By deranking you're being a problem, that being matches with a large disparity in skilll between killers and survivors. Vets being matched against newbies was a big complaint while the MMr was active but deranking leads to the sane results except it is done on purpose and is in no way reflected by the rank numbers seen at the end. I think it is a preytty scummy mthing to do, so don't please.

Deranking on purpose is a big aprt of why ranks mean axcxactly nothing when judging the skill of a player. Matchmaking without the MMR is dreadful because of smurfs and boosted players.
