Thank you for turning off the “MMR” system
It is much appreciated by the community. To be honest, as others have said, I’m not sure a MMR is going to work. Having a hidden system isn’t going to work. Removing rank that isn’t tied to MMR won’t work. What’s determined to be playing well is subjective.
Perhaps expanding the ranking system would work better? Keep Ranks 20-1. But once someone hits Rank 1, they enter a new secondary ranking system, can no longer be matched with Ranks 20-5, and that can further separate people based on skill. Not necessarily for matchmaking (at least not right away).
anyways, thanks for turning off the system. 🤝

Honestly though. I stopped playing because I felt bad going against people who were very obviously new so often. Not out to ruin the game for new players...

Same here

Hallelujah. Not sure what they were thinking here. Completely hidden, no indication of how it works, and objectively unfair matchmaking in so many instances. What exactly happened here? How on earth do you spend so much time on a system and think it's a good idea to implement it when it pits people with less than 100 hours against rank 1s? What level of organizational failure leads you to the conclusion that enabling MMR in this state was ever a good idea? It's shockingly ignorant of how Dead by Daylight works and quite frankly disturbing that these voices are gradually winning out within BHVR.

I thought the MMR system was placing me way lower than it should have, and thus fought against a lot of low hour/less skilled survivors. I took the opportunity to complete all my Adept killer achievements (and am now very thankful that I did it before the MMR was turned off).

Thank God. As someone who plays on Switch I hated going against rank 20s as I would demolish them and they couldn't do anything about it. I tried the new Bubba and I would feel bad because I would be against baby survivors that would hide in lockers and corners.
They need to add a general MMR for all killers so you can't just switch to a new killer and demolish rank 20s, just like how Smash Bros had a general GSP for all their fighters. I don't know how this made it through internal and Xbox testing without anyone realizing that.

Ikr, goodbye baby Dwights won't miss you.

I honestly have no idea how so many people had problems. Most of my matches were pretty good (excluding a couple here or there). Idk, back to people complaining about matchmaking anyway since no one is ever happy.

Yes I am very happy they made this decision. My message inbox is full of apology messages to poor baby rank players for having such a miserable match.

Though I saw all the nightmares by others, I have to admit that most of my games were pretty appropriate. I had a few anomalies with rank 20's here and there, but 90% were red rank players, or obviously skilled purple/green.
They have something in there slightly working. Unfortunately, it is clearly messed up. Hopefully they can fix it, because the ranking system just does not work. So many horrible red rank players, and lots of highly skilled players who intentionally avoid ranking up.

I found that for my main killer (Michael) the system worked perfectly. I am Rank 12-13 at any given time and my match ups were good overall. HOWEVER, the moment I played any other Killer, who were only Rank 1-5 all I got were matches against Rank 1-5 players that are Gods. It is really silly. I don't know what hard switch there is but clearly it was routing me to the OPPOSITE of where I needed to be. I've heard form the God-Like people they get the same thing. So the system they were testing only works for people in the middle, not at either end of the spectrum.

I think the key here is that you are mid rank. This is round about the offset of an MMR (if they implemented it the same way). You start in the middle and then get ranked up or down. The problems were the high ranks and low ranks. Something went very wrong there.

I don't know. I personally kinda liked new MMR. I don't think it was that bad, it just needed some time and stability in killers you chose. And getting rank 20s sometimes gave at least some relaxation. Still, community said their word, I guess. Now back to sweaty rank 1 killers and idiotic teammates, whose rank somehow doesn't prove that they are capable of doing anything at all.

Has it been turned off? I didn't see this annouced

They announced it on Twitter.

I think the MMR system can work better than the old rank system. The issue isn't MMR in general but something specific about how they did this particular implementation of it. They probably flubbed the initial seeds on certain killers or players somehow. (I didn't have any issues with it personally, my matches have been fine this week. But obviously something was wrong when OhTofu is getting put against teams of four brand new players so it's not surprising it's been disabled while they work on it.)
Frankly the old rank system is pretty bad and doesn't reflect actual game results. If they can fix whatever is causing this new MMR to be inconsistent then I'd much rather have that.

Still cant change killers while in Queue why cant i spent BPs on other killers while searching for a match to not waste my time

The idea of a second ranking system once they hit rank one sounds great to me, it would stop alot of the sweat for people trying to rank up but not being able to

I felt the MMR system was fine. On the killers I played a ton before MMR was released (Ghostface and Deathslinger), I got paired with red ranks. And even though I play all the killers, I actually went up against babies on killers who I previously didn't put much time into like Trapper.

I just don’t think you can create an effective MMR on a game like dbd. Even if they did, you can’t reset everyone to 0, and you can’t make individual killer rankings starting off at 0. if you’re a rank 1 killer (whether you’re a very good/average/less than average rank 1 killer) you understand basics: how to moonwalk, how to kick a gen, how to hook a survivor, how to use your ability. That knowledge doesn’t disappear because you’re playing trapper instead of the pig.
So let’s say there were 10 tiers of skill in the system. You put everyone who’s rank 1 in Tier 1. Red ranks in Tier 2. high purple in 3. Low purple in 4. Etc. THEN, you do 10 matches to put them in their more accurate tier. But for all killers, except those with a more unique playstyle (like Nurse, Huntress, Deathslinger, Spirit and Hag). For those specific killers, You then assign as follows: Rank 1 killers are put in Tier 3, and so forth. (So you have ratings for 6 killers basically, Everyone and then individual rankings for the 5 listed)
You can’t expect everyone to play for 6-12 hours a day like we’re all streaming for a livelihood to supposedly increase each individual killer skill level to an invisible level and have no idea what’s going on

So happy it's turned off! My sister tried playing killer a few days ago (she's a rank 20) and she got bullied by all red rank survivors. The system clearly wasn't working.

I'm in the minority: I thought the MMR system was good and was enjoying the matches I was getting with it, no matter if I was a killer or survivor. I felt like I was actually getting match up with people of a similar skill to me on the survivor side, both as teammates and the killer, or as a killer to ones who I could actually manage to play against and not feel like I was bullying / being bullied.
I think how they implemented the system was wrong, seemingly tossing everyone to the same MMR and then having to have us sort ourselves out over the coming weeks (which we didn't give it enough time). They should have done a 1 - 10,000 kind of system where you were placed at a comparable MMR to your current level. If you are a level 1, you start at 10,000. A level 20 starts at 500. Level 10 at 5,000 etc. That way, you wouldn't have seen extreme variance of a brand new player against a 5K hour player except for the relatively infrequent times when people quit the game for months on end then return.
All that aside, I think the SWF just really screws the system, no matter the system. I understand wanting to play with friends, it makes the game a lot more fun to be able to communicate. That aside though, it makes balancing an absolute nightmare. There's zero way to balance a killer against a team with a 20 and a 1 on it. If you make the killer more towards the low end, the 1 will just destroy the killer. If you make the killer towards the high end, the killer will just destroy the 20. If you make it a rank 10 killer, it will still destroy the 20 but be destroyed by the 1. It just can't be balanced.

But I'm rank 1 on killer and it was fine, then today they turned it off and I got red ranks who looked like rank 18's against a doctor
