Sure, pay studio executives millions of dollars for a license that will make a couple hundred thousand.

I don't know for sure, but I think that they would just get a cut out of every sale rather than millions up front.

The way it usually works is an up-front payment and a large percentage of every sale, often around 30-40%. The up-front payment is to make sure the seller gets the sweeter end of the deal, so it's usually huge. Dunno if that's how BHVR and their deals have been going, but that is the norm when it comes to liscencing/publishing stuff.
Edit: I should also clarify, Coralline is held by a huge, rich studio that would need a lot of cash to be flashed to get off their arse.

If that’s the case, I’d rather we get an original Mummy killer instead of an over priced studio property......unless it’s Chucky. I’d come back to the game for him, especially if he could climb over objects/walls and launch himself at Survivors. Bonus cookies if they give him cute little pitter patter foot tap sounds when he runs. They’d have to do something about hooks but that can be fixed by using a noose instead.

Only if they went with movie version. They could avoid the studio and go with original book version by Neil Gaiman - just a couple years ago there was an Opera based on the book version. Gaiman is actually a pretty big fan of seeing his stories in multiple formats.
I love Coraline and as much as I'd love to see a Coraline chapter I feel like it falls under the same issues I have with fnaf - it's target audience is children. Adding anything that's target audience is children would attract the attention of parents groups that would make a fuss about it being in an adult game.

The game IS rated M 17+.
Not that that means anything, but it's right on the cover. The parents can't say they weren't warned.

Yes, the game is rated 17+. Right now if kids play it DBD has the defense "it's an adult game with licensed DLC from adult franchises, kids shouldn't be playing it." They add a licensed DLC to the game from franchise that was targeted towards kids they lose that argument because it will be "why are you adding kid targeted franchise dlc to an adult game if kids shouldn't play it?" followed by demanding the game be made more kid friendly.
