Why is suicide on hook still in the game?

Hey guys, this is something I've thought about for a while. Please when discussing, try to refrain from just blatant hate since I know a lot of people may be against this.

DC penalties are in the game to prevent the game basically being 3 man. So why can someone kill themselves on hook? This completely negates the entire aspect of the DC penalty. Luck should be removed from the game, and you should not be allowed to attempt to free yourself off of your first hook. Deliverance will have its own unique prompt. Having a chance to escape is cool, but most of the time it's not game-changing and more-over it usually just causes a pain in the rear for a killer just trying to end the game with 2 people left or something.

Make hooks similar to PH cages, where during stage 1 you cannot struggle. You are just in the cage. In stage 2, you have to hit skill checks (which i find vastly more fun than spamming space bar) - and you lose tiny progression for missing a skill check. (make camaraderie stop skill checks / pause timer etc)

I know this is a very bold thing to talk about, and a lot off people think you should just be able to remove yourself from a game you don't want to play - but I think that the DC penalty (excluding hackers exploiting the timer) should have purpose. This (in my opinion) would eventually make games a lot more fun and force people to stay in games instead of rage quitting instantly. There are many games where if someone doesn't die on hook instantly, they'd actually easily win it - the person is just mad. I don't know, I feel like the struggling on hook is just extremely out dated and the game is going in a direction where people just need to either play it, or stack up their DC penalty for being a bad sport.

I have 3k+ hours and am devotion 12. I've played plenty of survivor lol

To be fair plenty of games have leaver penalties if you leave your team high and dry mid match - usually the equivalent of this game's DC timer. Nothing is forcing you to perform during the game either but having the guy let go when I ran across the entire map to unhook him in phase 2 when the killer is chasing the other guy is basically a kick in the face that the devs refuse to put in this game.

I wouldn't mind if the entire hook stage became a skill check every X number of seconds - so if you REALLY wanted to suicide you could fail even single skill check but there is still a minimum amount of time you would be on the hook - not 9 seconds then instantly let go in phase 2.

Wouldn't this be a killer buff for endgame? The third survivor cannot suicide fast enough, so the other one can go for the hatch?

‘cause hook escape attempts are a thing, and probably always will be.

Unless they remove the penalty for escape attempts all together and only give the 3 attempts, the survivor still moves into the struggle phase... even the cages currently have that feature. Should that struggle mechanic or penalty be removed, survivors would jus be on the hook for 2min until unhooked or no rescue at which point they progress into the sacrifice animation.

If they feel so upset for whatever reasons and can’t “hook terminate” and then are rescued, they’ll probs jus stand there collecting crows, at which point you’ll get at most 2 hooks on them.

They’d probably DC before going through all that.

There are people who already hide entire hook states just for hatch. I don't see this being much different. But yeah, it would be a minor buff

Escape attempts are fine, i dont see why thats a problem really. Suiciding on hook on the other hand really isnt cool. Being able to screw your team just sucks, it denies killers the hook points, and yet, somehow is even abused so when 2 people are left, it lets the fourth person get the hatch.

Again, i dont mind escaping, but the fact that suiciding has such a major impact at every stage of the game is awful

Yeah. I don't mind that aspect of giving hatch at the end

Not going to way in on either side of the whole argument, but I will say that MANY games, especially those that feature online vs-coop, give far more strict penalties for leaving games early. Granted these are more competitive games like MOBAs and whatnot, but the point is yes, in games where you have teammates that rely on you, you are forced to play, or you suffer a consequence.

I guess I don't understand why you would bring up the question then. You know then when a cause is lost or it is just hell to continue slugging away. Sometimes it is better to cut losses and jump back into another game that might have a chance at some actual fun, Not like this game is an esport.

You can't expect game to decide if it is OK for you or not for them to kill themselves? I like having the option to leave a game if I want to. Or anyone else in that matter. If anything I would also like a fast bleed out option on the ground. That would make things unpredictable for players. And you can't or shouldn't force people to stay in a game where they don't want to participate. It's a game, supposed to be fun to play.

Because you have the 4% chance of escaping while in the hook.

If you fail, you get punished.

There's the "suicide on hook" mechanic because there's the "escape on hook" mechanic.

Shouldn't be too hard to make a system that can determine when someone suicides on hook too early in the game for it to be anything other than a ragequit and punishes someone who does it excessively. To be fair, random hook escapes are bad IMO for reasons beyond hook suicides, so I wouldn't mind a change to that system (though not a removal of it completely like OP suggests).

Can’t take away escape attempts, they are the only way to counter Spirit, Nurse, Slowdown Freddy and bad teammates.

Yes, but the real strategy to beat face camping is letting your mate stay on the hook full duration and finishing all the gens. It is what it is. As killer, I'd say people DC or suicide in about 70% of my games and quite frankly it gets incredibly annoying. It's just selfish behavior because killer has no way to move to a different game but if a survivor wants to they can just leave and move on. Leaving 3 survivors and a killer to have a boring as ######### game. It's really not fair.

Wrong. Suicide on hook leaving 3 team mates and a killer to be bored out of their mind and forced to play a game no one wants to is selfish and petty.

  • Zozzy
    Zozzy Member Posts: 4,759

People have asked multiple times for the devs to automate hook struggle, but the devs think pressing a button = engagement and people would get bored if they couldn't do anything while on the hook.

It would solve so many problems, but will never happen.

You should be allowed to disconnect or ######### on hook from a match you don’t want to be in. There are many examples for this such as:

•playing against a killer who wants to first hook mori

•It’s a Stridor Spirit (Joke btw, no offense spirit mains)

•You’re getting hits that shouldn’t register on you

•you get hooked and all your teammates are on the outskirts doing nothing or self caring

•You’re about to reach 2nd hook stage and no one has came to get you

•You got farmed off hook and killer picks up and or tunnels off hook

There are probably a lot more that I did not list but you shouldn’t have to go against this kind of crap when you play survivor.

I get ur frustration, but i still don't see any point to spam and break ma A button if ma team mates are playin so selfish not even attemptin to come for me, it would be different on ma swfs because ik then they would at least attempt to come and get me (I wouldn't let them on insidious bubba, i would hang and struggle in swfs) Not all of us hook suicide in a selfish way, it's as i said ma team mates are not comin, they would rather sit on a gen not botherin thier arse even if the killer isn't face campin, i have kindred on, and they still sit and do a gen close to me then piss off to the next one. I will not reward selfish players by strugglin so everythin can get done so they can escape, not in a solo game anyway.

    1. They're to busy urbanin round the map hidin

    2. Self carin on sloppy butcher at the other side of the map

    3. Sittin on a gen not givin a ######### a team mate is hooked

    4. Hidin in lockers

Please don't get me wrong as i have been in games I've went on ahead to rescue people off the hook, and they'll see I'm comin yet will try and 4%, and when i get there they don't struggle, this is what i mean we're not all selfish in our hook suicide, some have very good reasons, and others are just.. idk... twats, i actually meant to put this part in ma last message, but didn't want to give u an autobiography 😐

I get frustrated too when ppl can clearly see i'm comin to rescue them and they're just like ah ######### it sorta thing.. we get punished for points, and the help to try and escape, it's equally as frustratin for team mates as well as killers, both sides are punished... it's not fair in both sides for no reason really hook suicide.. I've already explained ma reasons, but i haven't needed to hook suicide in a year anyway

This entire post can be countered by a single perk: Kindred.

As a bonus, you personally get the same information when you're not the one on the hook!

Lol no matter what you do, if they gave some kind of penalty for suicide on hook, the people would purposely get caught just to leave match, there really isnt any way around it, there will always be a way to play around leaving.

  • Brodie
    Brodie Member Posts: 64

I've used kindred in solo games too, i actually forgot to mention that bullet point, and still they sit on a gen with no care in the world, they would just rather gen rush and get out

  • Anghroth
    Anghroth Member Posts: 40

Because, when we're being honest, there are still a lot of garbage human beings playing killer, who tunnel/camp the hell out of you. So why would you sacrifice your own fun and get facecamped for minutes? Suicide and next match, simple as that!

Thank god is there, if the killer tryhard (iri hatchets, ebony, hard tunneling) im not interested in playing

  • deadbybums
    deadbybums Member Posts: 82

This sums up my experience usually. Watching my whole team go down within seconds to iri hatchets is cause for alarm. Id rather just lose the pip and jump into my next game. Its gonna happen so why wait. Get it over with.

I personally as a survivor hate it more than anything when a teammate suicides off hook but I understand.. I do it when I'm pissed, or I've had to endure a bullcrap connection. The only times I ever suicide on hook is as someone put it earlier from the devs. When hope is lost. Iri hatchets, suicide. Crap connection, suicide. Teammates without thumbs going down left and right? Suicide. What's the point of waiting for the inevitable? Go down get hooked and get out.

My paragraph makes it sound like it happens often but in reality its usually only once in a while. Sometimes things are just ######### and you need to bounce.

Then you did what you could. Even if people are dumb, you have to at least try to lead them in the right direction, rather than just whine about their failures.

Aye it's just a meme now, i could write a full book on solo survivor games, and i find it pointless to get mad over it so if i play solo i bring deliverance and cross ma fingers i don't get hooked first.

it's just sad when people don't play as a team, it is what it is though, not a lot can be done even when u do bring kindred and still u're left to die on first hook.

I have more than you and I will kill myself on hook and screw my team over until I don’t have to verse the unfair killers like Nurse, Spirit and Deathslinger
