The Matchmaking is nonsensical. Always put against red ranks.
Ever sense i got to purple rank survivor, it seems matchmaking means nothing. I find it bizarre that I very rarely get put up against purple rank killers. Majority of the time its red rank killers at rank 1 & 2, followed by green rank. I hear a lot of talk of how there are hardly any red rank killers; I seem to get them all the time. In these games, my team and I almost always get destroyed, with our team only managing to finish 0-2 gens. The game is unbarring how boring/unfair it can get when our team gets stomped like that. My survival rate is between 20-30% If I were to guess. Im solo que rank 7 btw.
Additionally, the ranking system is pretty bad for survivor and killer. I keep pipping constantly as survivor, even when I dont have a good game. I often pip even when I dont escape too. I feel like I can hold my own in purple ranks for the most part, but once I go against red killers, im pretty outclassed. To me, it seems like I should be back in green ranks where the games were more balanced and enjoyable - that was when I made it to the EGC half the time and escaped around 50%. Killer seems to get punished even when they do what they are suppose to, which may result in de-pip; its odd. The standards for pipping dont seem consistent for either role.
Note: I do understand red rank killers need survivors to play, but im being serious when I say they are the majority of killers I play against. You would think the majority would be purple rank killers for me.

It’s because there isn’t much difference between rank 7 and rank 1. That’s a difference of 6 which is what the devs have said their matchmaking allows as leeway. I imagine that if they made it more strict, queue times would increase.

As someone who hasn't played in a while and is purple ranks on both sides, I see yellows and reds more often than anything else, both sides. Maybe the averages are just skewed in that way that theres more yellows and reds.

Rank is not related to skill, is just a representation of the frequency a player plays a certain role with the entity expectations. You can depip winning (achieving your win condition), that says a lot.
This just means that the people you are matched with, plays more often than you. But that doesn't mean that they are neccessary better players than you.

Well you just pointed out the issue. Why is rank represented by playtime rather than skill? I would wager the killer grievances would be alleviated a bit in regards to swf if matchmaking actually was more representing of one's skill rather than playtime. It doesnt need to be strictly skill, becuase that would be hard to quantify and implement, however, it does appear they need to perhaps incorporate skill more so in ranking and matchmaking.

being a red rank doesnt mean anything anymore. you can get a rank 1 who is supposed to be a rank 15 and play like that. or you're unlucky and get a real red rank player. the red ranks i get are mostly potatoes.

Rank kind of represents skill, but as it does so badly it was modified so the matchmaking could be better. Also there is no display of the matchmaking numbers the system uses, so it's difficult to say it's working badly from an objective stand point because we don't have the data.
Also Devs have said that this is a problem they are working on and that it could be soon but needs more testing. Just wait for it, devs are working on it.
