So what exactly does Autodidact do?
and why should I use it?
I've read the description and I don't get it, and I've never been bothered to put it on and try it, so because I'm so resistant to trying this perk, like most "meh" survivor perks, I figured I'd ask the forums what it does and if I should even bother making a build with it

It replaces the normal skillchecks you get while healing with unique skillchecks that start off actually removing healing progress, but as you complete them they gain progress.
The bonus starts at -25% and goes up to 80% progress after completing 5 skill checks.
It can potentially be really good if the killer you're up against is getting lots of hits. But it is very RNG-reliant compared to the other healing perks.

It also reduces the chances to get any skill checks while healing other survivors ;)

Once you get your 5 stacks, you can heal people fully in the snap of a finger! Well, assuming you actually get a skill check that is. Sadly this doesn’t work while healing yourself, but that’d be too strong anyway

Actually, it's +15% per stack up to 5 stacks. So +75% up from -25%. Basically, 2 skill checks fully heals someone

For me it's the best healing perk, it start with a malus, but after 2 stacks it's a bonus, when 5 stacks its like we will make it and for the people in one perk. It's very strong.

Autodidact is sort of like a politician. It keeps making the promise of doing something great, but rarely, if ever, actually delivers. :)
Seriously, it can be a great perk, IF you can get the skill checks. I've used it sometimes where I get 4 skill checks in one heal. Others, I'll heal 4 people with no skill checks. It is way too inconsistent to be a great perk. It can be fun when it works.
When it works, you can heal someone in just a few seconds. When it does not work, which is most of the time, it does pretty much nothing but make it longer to heal. They should guarantee a skill check/greatly increase the chance of skill checks when you use this perk.

fellas 5 stacks is 75% the 25% penalty its still there it only stacks up to 50% at 5 stacks

Doesn't work with med-kits. Doesn't work with Self Care. And, most of all, doesn't work when survivors run away from you.

It's like We'll Make It but worse in every aspect.
Seriously, you'd get more value out of skill checks if you ran Stake Out. Swear on my momma.

Wish Autodidact worked with Medkits so you could throw on Suture + Needle to get skill checks.
And then still never get skill checks because Autodidact might as well be Instructions for healing.

Stake out actually is kinda pog tbh

Eh,it's really inconsistent.
You are better of just using botany knowledge or the healing perk from the new survivor felix.
But great if it works for you 👍

This^
Yeah, once it is at 5 tokens it’s an excellent healing perk.
But as others have said it’s risky/unreliable due its link to skillchecks.

It will totally screw up your team or save it. There's little in-between with this perk.

Here's a fun way you can use it. Again, you can see it's very skill check reliant.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

It prevents you from getting skill checks when healing. That's what it does.
