Is It Just Me Or Does The Saw Chapter Not Represent Saw Very Well?
This isn't a knock against anything gameplay wise, I'm talking lorewise.
Saw is known for its wide variety of deadly traps, meanwhile all we have are RBT. I mean they're cool, but it just doesn't feel complete.
Hows about the variety of killers and accomplices that helped Jigsaw throughout the series? Spoilers for those who haven't guessed. Amanda was a victim in Saw I and had her reveal in Saw II before being 1 of 2 antagonists in Saw III. She then was relegated to flashbacks for obvious reasons. Hoffman took over as sole bad guy for IV, V, VI, and VII. Gorgon was a main character in I and was the omega twist in VII. We then had Logan in Jigsaw , he was fine, nothing special. And John lead the thing alive from 1-3 and was still important in the rest. So how was all this represented in DBD? Just Amanda, thats it. Not even some skins.
How about about the survivor? Its Tapp, he did almost nothing in Saw I before he died. And aside from some brief references I don't think he did anything else in the movies. Sure he was the main character in the video game but does anyone actually remember that game? I'm almost positive half the people who read this aren't even aware of the game.
I feel like it could be better represented actually pretty easily, provided the licence holders are down with it. Give us a Hoffman skin for Pig and some other characters for Tapp. Give Pig some addons that change her RBTs into other stuff like the Death Mask and Shotgun Collar, since they work pretty much the exact same.
I'm happy to have Saw here but it just doesn't feel complete.

Agreed, I was surprised that Tapp was used instead of one of the many other characters available

Detective Mattews would've been so much better

The Game should have so many Saw references. We could have 2/3 rooms for every Saw movie! Rooms recreation full of references! But what do we have? 😔

He would be pretty sick, I hope they'll release some legendarys down the line.

I somehow feel hoffman would have made a better survivor than Tapp, maybe his perks could have been something like ratting out teammates.

Yeah, but, don't diss a character you've never seen in P3.

A bathroom, some TVs, a Pig head room, What more is there to ask for! Th-this is everything in Saw!

Come on guys, don't you remember the part in the movie where the pig lady run at you with a knife and then put a trap on your head that didn't require you to injure yourself to escape from? (Not gonna lie though I really like Stake Out and Detective's Hunch)

That would ######### hilarious, he'd fittingly be the most hated survivor.

My guess is they chose Tapp because Danny Glover is probably the most notable actor in the series aside from Tobin Bell. Even if he is only in the first movie.
They chose Amanda because she's related to the Reverse Bear Trap that Saw is iconic for. If you asked someone to name a trap from Saw, they'd probably say RBT. Also, other traps are more complicated/immobile and wouldn't mesh well with DBD mechanics.
Never liked Hoffman much. I thought he was a very one-dimensional character. Plus the later movies are the worst (except 6) so I don't mind Hoffman being left out.
I would've loved to see Gordon in the game, but the actor has a lawsuit history with Saw so Im guessing it was a legal issue.
Can't think of why they left out John though. He should've been an alternate skin for Pig for sure.

Honestly... I feel like I'd want to see an expansion for the reasons you listed...
The Stranger Things DLC gave us 2 survivors... So why not add more killers and survivors from other licences...

It IS disappointing that it's a rarity than anything that the RBTs are only looked at as stalling the game. Wish they were more than such. And her Mori is so boring

I think it represents Saw as well as possible within the games constraints. I agree that if a company were to develop a "Saw" only video game it should be something completely different.

I'm not talking about anything gameplay wise, I think its actually represented pretty well in that regard. I'm talking about the characters that are here.

I mean you could say the same thing for any dlc. Why is Pyramid Head released with Cheryl when PH is a representation of James’ superego? Why is Demo released with the lab map when he was most prominent in Season 1? Why does Haddonfield have endless fences when there were no such thing in the movies?
I mean for Amanda, the RBT makes a ton of sense.
Put some iconic characters in, iconic map that’s mostly relevant and a couple references. I think that works well enough for a game like dbd.

I'd be down for that, I just hope they do something more with the licence.

Was the box itself actually in a movie? Or is it an original? I never even mentioned the map because I think it was done quite well.
0 -
Um, that is not at all what I'm talking about. The stuff you speak about was made directly to represent the most media possible. That's why the Silent Hill chapter is representing a small portion from each game rather than putting everything in one basket. My point about Saw was that they didn't do that, everything we have is from the first 3, nothing for 4-8 aside from some obscure references around the map.

Meh, I feel like they should change Pig's gameplay mechanics to make her more interesting. BHVR should really do an overhaul on Pig.
Agreed. She can stealth but I feel like her ability is just meant for stalling the game. To be honest I don't think I've ever even seen Pig's Mori and I've been playing for over 500 hours, people really don't use her mori much if I had to search for it on YouTube. It's like she stabs him in the hand, then he goes "I can't believe you've done this", slash, dead.

I agree
Amanda's perks, power, and map fit quite well in the game
But they missed out on more

I think the reason they left out John is because he's a septaugenarian cancer patient. A guy in a hospital bed would not make for a very imposing killer.
Making a Hoffman skin for Pig would require new animations and new sounds, which would be a lot nore qork than just a new outfit.
Tapp is Tapp. He's too old for this s***. Leave Tapp alone.
As for Saw lore, the Game map is RIDDLED with easter eggs from the series. Go on and soak them all in.

I wish that she did the one trap where it twists your arms and legs off and then she cuts your throat for the mori. It would take too long tho
1 -
He wasn't a cancer patient until the second movie. Remember he jumped Tapp in the first movie. They easily could've put him in the game.
0 -
It was, just bhvr altered the design and it wasnt even remotely related to the rbt.
0 -
Wait, why do they need new animations? I don't see sound as an issue, they did it for legion.
0 -
They recorded different killer sounds for Legion at the same time. It took less work that way. And you can't make an entirely new character model for a killer and expect the old animations to work. It would look janky. Trust me.
0 -
I mean they couldn't put 5 operating tables randomly on the map with 5 conscious but drugged up guys just so the survivors can open up their intestines in the chance of finding a key.
lol Sounds funny if you think about it.
0 -
True 😆
0 -
Wouldn't they record those sounds at the same time as the new chapter to make it easier again? Isn't minotaur oni a new model for an old character to?
0 -
Nah, minotaur Oni is a new skin for an existing model. Making a male Pig would necessitate an entirely male model, unless you want a Pig that sounds male but looks distinctly feminine. Maybe people would be into that. I don't judge.
0 -
Thats true, It would probably require a tweaked model. I still don't think it'd be impossible, especially after the massive amount of effort it took to make legion.

Once they announced legendary skins I immediately thought they would add more characters -especially survivors- from their existing licenses. Iirc Pig and Tapp were some of the first licensed chars to get cosmetics in the in-game store, so I guess negotiations for legendary should be similarly easy. Compared to Nightmare on Elm Street.
as for traps, I think jigsaw boxes should give some effects, maybe each box gives different status condition like Deep Wounds, Blindness etc. This would be more fitting for the actual Saw traps I guess and give a little buff to Pig

The movies are like a decade old and I did start the revealing section with spoiler alert. As well as starting off with Amanda, the character everyone here should know the backstory of. As well, I started off the post by saying "This is about the lore", it seems pretty clear this was a spoiler filled post.

When I first saw the trailer I remember not recognising Tapp. I was also quite surprised to learn Amanda was the Pig. However I actually feel they did an amazing job.
The Gideon Meat Plant is a very simple map which isn't really the biggest love letter to Saw but the bathroom and room above it really hit home with me. The could've done more to make the other rooms feel more like saw but I'm still satisfied.
The Reverse Bear Trap was done excellently imo. The fact YOU cause the trap to be active by doing gens fits Saw nicely. The jigsaw boxes look amazing and the Billy laugh is class. The shear panic you get from a trap is also similar to how everyone else feels in the movies. I would've liked more traps probably if possible but I'm very pleased with what we got. There was a cool post talking about her having 3 traps a few months ago but I didn't bookmark it unfortunately.
Her cosmetics are amazing. All 3 I feel like can be mixed and matched excellently.
Now Tapp and Amanda are the big differences when it comes to this chapter. Kramer could've been the killer with the red cloak if they didn't use the Pig costume and changed the secondary ability. Hoffman also would've been excellent too. I'd say Gordon should've been survivor but with him only having one leg he can't really run.
Overall I think even if they could've done better I think Saw was the best represented licensed chapter that they've done.
