What Exactly Is *Tunneling* ?
Genuine question, as I keep getting accused of this.
Is this following around one survivor unprovoked and chain killing them, or is this targeting anyone wounded in a group first, and taking opportunities as they arise?
Or is this just chasing someone incessantly?

Tunneling has loads of different definitions from all types of different players but my personal definition would be ignoring all other players to specifically kill one, even situations where it doesn't make sense, like if you found your tunneling targets with someone else on a gen who was injured and going after your target, even though it makes more sense to go after the injured person, but that's just my two cents.

I'm not one to lurk around hooks (unless it's endgame and I haven't got a kill) but if I see a wounded survivor and someone is trying to block me, doesn't it just make more sense tactically to take out the weaker target? Especially if it's someone with a toolbox or something?

Survivors will call a killer a "tunneler" when they aren't tunneling, when a survivor calls you a tunneler just ignore them.
Tunneling is when a killer has tunnel vision for one survivor. A tunneling killer will ignore the three other survivors to specifically target one survivor. For example:
- When the killer chases a strong looper for the entire game, and not willing to abandon the chase even if it's the smart thing to do.
- Killer hooks a survivor, when the survivor is unhooked immediately goes back to the hook with the intention of downing the unhooked survivor and rehooking that survivor. This is includes abandoning a chase just to go back to hook, to rehook the unhooked survivor.
Now examples of what is NOT tunneling:
- When the killer doesn't hook the same survivor in a row.
- The killer has chased multiple survivors between hooks.
- The unhooked survivor runs into the killer, when unhooked.
- The unhooked survivor immediately begins repairing a generator in the killer's face (what do you expect the killer to do, allow you to finish the generator).
- The unhooked survivors tries to unhook another survivor.
- The killer goes back to the hook with the intention of downing the rescuer but the rescuer has either stealth away or ran to a strong loop, leaving the unhooked survivor exposed. The killer has no choice but to down the unhooked survivor.
Personally when I play killer, I know when I have tunneled and when I haven't. If a survivor calls me a tunneler when I know haven't, I just see it as them being salty that they lost and I ignore them.

I understand it as:
Hook surv no. 1
Leave
Get into a chase with surv no. 2
Hear the unhooking notification
Leave chase with surv no. 2
Get back to hook location
Get into a chase with surv no. 1 and down him

The original definition of tunneling was simply u tunnel vision one survivor all game or until their death. Now its meaning has expanded so much that it generally just means overcommiting to a chase or not giving an injured/previously hooked survivor a fair chance of survival. What's fair is up to debate.

Going after one survivor from the start and not targeting another till that survivor is dead.
This is the only true form of tunneling.
Some call it the 3vs1 "strat" in which you purposely go into the match with the intent of killing one survivor as soon as possible. This "strat" is extremely effective that it is borderline broken.

the act of you ignoring other survivors to go after a survivor who is injured and has been recently hooked who you are aiming to continue hooking in quick succession until the survivor is dead and out of the game is traditionally considered "tunneling".
Feel free to ignore most complaints and play as if you were the survivors you were facing. That should tell you what you should be doing and what you shouldn't.

I consider it tunneling if I’m chased from one end of the map to the other (and sometimes back again). I’m bad at evading and hiding in a chase but I’ve been chased while gens are being completed and the killer just goes for me. That’s usually only if I’m found at the top of the round though and it doesn’t happen often.

I wish I could play as if I was the survivors I was facing, but that would require 3 more killers to group up with me over Discord :)
In all seriousness though, I get what you are saying - but if I have the chance to take out a high priority target right off the bat, then so be it.

Tunneling is when you go after a survivor that was just unhooked, aka having tunnel vision.

I mean, I get tunneling and camping complaints all the time :P. The amount of salt in my chats is REAL (especially from SWF groups). The way I play survivor is a little different from most others (i.e. leave everyone else to die and sacrifice whomever I need as long as they don't look new to the game), so I feel pretty confident in saying what I said in my previous comment.

It depends. When someone is doing that (making it obvious that they want me to whack them) my instinct is to do the opposite.
