Streamers and Commentary on Players
So last night, I was in a match and had no clue I was being streamed. I played normally and I thought I actually did pretty well, but after I died I saw they were a ttv killer and I usually check them for feedback. I go and see that this person is making fun of me while being chased and such, and I actually feel really bad about it. I don't know, I get that it's all in good fun, but sometimes seeing people commenting on how bad you are really gets in the way of how you play. Has anyone else had this happen? And is there any advice for a relatively new survivor (5-6 months)?
EDIT: Wow!! Thank you for the advice and comments :)! I am reading them over but wanted to make some things clear: I am not upset with streamers, I just want to make sure I'm not being toxic or rude without realizing it, especially if there is an audience. So when I hear someone saying things like that, I view it as me making their game experience bad. Also, I am open to critiques, but it was mostly commentary about how awful I am and I'm a baby and took it to heart lol. Sorry if I'm too sensitive for this game, but I am trying my best to make sure we all have fun haha :)!

TTVers are trying to gain an audience, talking ######### about other players in a match might be a way to grow their audience, but i'm just guessing.
You are probably better off moving to the next match and not watch the video.

Haha, you got me there! I just assume that they have advice or I can see a trend in how people play a certain killer, but this was the first stream I've seen where I was getting obliterated by this guy and I was like 'wow i guess i do suck'
2 -
Its their stream, they can say what they want
0 -
Yeah, I just hate how stupid I looked in it haha. Oh well, you live and you learn
3 -
You're cute

I guess it is just because some bigger toxic streamers (no names) teached the community that it is great to make fun of others. All the small killer streamers I sneaked in so far are like that. Not necessarily mega crap talk, but "great dead hard, noob" and "on the hook, where you belong to" is pretty much standard. No creativity around
6 -
When i stream i mainly talk about balancing issues of the game and i do sometimes give praise where they use dead hard smartly but i would call out dumb moves from survivors like healing bellow a hook... happens way to much in red rank.
When i do get survivors TTV i tend to find majority of them just talking horribly about the killers there are some nice ones but i hear oh look hes camping what a loser, yet on my persepective i see track marks around the area so i know someone is near so why would i leave.
guess it just showcase what kind of streamer you want to be

My advice would be not to follow people back to Twitch. I watch and like some DBD streamers (ones who are generally more polite) but, when people give commentary on a game as they're playing it, the commentary is rarely, "Wow, everyone else is doing great!" And the worse they are are the game themselves, the less generous they seem to want to be.
In general, I wish more streamers would hide people's usernames when they broadcast their games. If someone didn't consent to being in your video -- especially one that you're monetizing -- protecting their identity seems like the least you can do.

thing is how many times do you hear people talking about that crap killer that m1'd you instead of using the chainsaw or what ever? it doesn't matter if they are ttver or youtuber or what not. it doesn't matter what someone said about you while they were streaming, BUT! what you can do is look at the other side and learn from your mistakes that you see and get better. talk to the ttv'er if you want that's up to you, but realize that it's just people crap talking the game. I do it in Mass effect Andromeda while in the single player game! there is no need to get upset over it, just let it roll off your back :) you'll be fine and with the vod in hand learn what mistakes you made :) best of luck... but I do want to say: not all TTV'ers in this game always stream dbd. I am one and I stream single player or mmo's doing PVE content. :) come on by if you wish (Freki42) If I make fun of others it is in jest and for a giggle, but I know people may not be the best or even semi-best at something but it's for a laugh.

Don't let some toe sucker on the internet get under your skin. Just think to yourself "it's a game made to have fun. Who gives a ######### if I'm not sweating it out every match like some no lifer." If somebody says you're trash just laugh it off. Words are just words. They only have as much power as you enable them to have.
4 -
Eh it's probably just people roleplaying if they say the last one. I know I do it. I'll even up the B word to every sentence if I'm playing Freddy.

These are the same people who cry when they get beat and complain to their viewers making excuses for losses and will blame perk combos that weren't really a factor in the loss, if I were you I would let it roll off and hopefully the next time you play them you'll win and you can drop a GG in the chat it always gets them going
3 -
Talking ######### about players is how some streamers keep their streams lively and interesting.
1 -
Put it this way - if they put TTV in their name, chances are, nobody watches them.
There, now you can feel better knowing that the streamer was literally a nobody.
5 -
I just had a close game against a Freddy who apparently was a streamer. While still in the post-game chat, I decided to check out if he was streaming so I could maybe rewatch the game and learn a couple thing. The exact moment the stream starts, I hear him say (about me) that I only said gg because I escaped, otherwise I'd have said nothing.
This frustrated me more than it should have, because I pride myself in being a friendly, non-toxic player on both sides and he basically just assumed all survivors are rude. I always say gg if the game wasn't a disaster, even if I lose. Starting to think maybe I shouldn't check out streams anymore...
Just came here to vent.

I can agree on that one when it is a "special" build or meme, but when someone is playing as their "main" killer, it doesn't really seem like "acting", more like routine. Just my opinion, but the most times I see that it is pretty boring and lazy/uncreative to me

If you don’t like it, don’t watch. Other people’s opinions shouldn’t matter.
1 -
If I see a TTV, I'll usually just dodge.
9 times out of 10 this is an SWF group abusing a smurf account in the group to roflstomp newbies, and the second you put up a fight they go batty and you start getting randos trying to add you as a friend to call you names.
3 -
That's why i tend to only watch killer mains, survivor streamers are almost always toxic.
Also that is true for most people. That's the community especially for survivors but also for most killers. Hell even when people do escape the last thing i expect them to say is "gg" lol

Yeah, I've seen that happen.
One called me 'useless' despite the fact that he went down in chase after 10 seconds against a Pig, and I had to unhook him and his buddy twice. Why no, I didn't get any gens done while I was busy trying to save everyone on the other side of the map for 90% of the match.
I've seen some nicer ones, though. Those are the ones I tend to give a follow to. They also tend to have more followers.

I have actually had streamers give me good feedback and actually tell the audience that i played as a specific character lol! Very kind and their stream was very fun, just laidback and making jokes without being too mean. That was my first experience being streamed so I was curious what it looked like from their perspective and it became a habit if I felt stuck and happened to see one at the end of my match.

In the two dozen or so games I played before I just turned postgame chat off entirely, I can think of maybe 2 survivors who GG'd.
Most of the time it's 'lol scrub games full uninstall' or something similar.

Streamers are bullies and I feel the devs actively enable and even encourage toxic behavior by spotlighting it on social media. But it's okay for streamers to break the rules because they generate extra income.
1 -
I leave a Lobby when I get a Streamer join. Why? They get paid for it, but I don't. I didn't agree to become part of their show. I suppose if I saw Otz or Monto or someone like that I might stay because I watch the shows and I'm a fan. But in general, I'm not going to track down every damn Streamer to see if I show up on their show. I'm not that vain, nor that interested.
The ethical matter is they are getting paid and I am not. It seems off somehow.

That's the thing for me as well. As someone who also works in the entertainment industry, albeit not in streaming, I'm not at all into helping them build their platform without first being asked or deciding to do so on my own because I know of them and enjoy their content.
If, and I stress if, I am already a viewer, then that's different. I've chosen to support them. I'll even do "play with viewers" matches with them to add to that content creation and have in a few different game titles back when I watched Twitch. Not DbD, though, because I'm not a fan of SWF in general and won't do it.
I've no doubt that there are times I am in a streamer's game and don't realize it because they don't have TTV or YT in their names. And that's just the nature of the online gaming beast. But I will not willingly do so unless I know them, their content, and am a fan.
Otherwise, I leave the lobby.
2 -
If they have ttv in their name, their opinion is irrelevant.
1 -
Yeah, hi, um what?
I stream and I'm one of the least toxic people I know and what I want to do for some parts of the game, like teaching new Pig players, is to be LESS toxic!
1 -
Tons of generalizations being thrown around in this thread with the only one that is really true probably that having "TTV" in your display name meaning the streamer is probably very small time and trying to attract whatever viewers they can even from ingame. Bigger streamers who have been around for awhile tend to even mask their twitch names so they don't get sniped as often (Otzdarva, Monto, CoconutRTS etc.) though not all of them (OhTofu, Tru3, ScottJund, Umbra, etc.)
The same people here who are saying streamers are all toxic are the same ones that are likely to paint all survivors as salty crybabies or vice versa. It's never that black and white - it's just easier to say it like that so people bend that way just like the real world.
Honestly though, no one is going to fix ignorance by being mad about it on the internet. Just keep being humble and reflecting the behavior you want to see in others - if people are unabashedly rude then mute, quick report, move on or whatever and live a happier life. This applies to all internet games - whether the report does anything or not... the culture of sensitivity is only really ignored on the internet until that slippery slope of stricter net neutrality stuff starts to come in along with all the other bad sides full accountability on the net will bring

When I stream, I trash talk the character, and not the player. Unless the player is doing something really trashy, like the usual problems people face (camping, hacking).
I want to play this game like I’m in a horror movie, and still feel tense and nervous about it.

I'd say it's because people are used to talking ######### about their opponents or teammates and sometimes forget they are live.
However there are some youtubers/streamers who just make fun of their opponents and their audience likes it. I'd say if you don't play well vs a streamer then don't watch the video. We've unfortunately all had those bad games vs a live streamer.

Well I got a clicky clicky Streamer with his Swf Last week...
I hot 11 hooks 3K them with my Demo Boy and gived the Last one the hatch. But in the End Chat they raged telling me that I'm a lagswitching (Bad Word) (Bad Word), get gud, Camping tunniling noob Baby Killer, go (Bad Word) youself, you Trash (Bad Word)...
Tbh I Love to play against this Kind of Streamers... I was laughing a hour because of that

I got one toxic streamer as teammate once, don't remember name. He was making fun of my steam profile. That made me angry but I tried to not think about it. And in game he suicided on first hook. On Haddonfield, most survivor sided map in the game. That pissed me off even more. I checked his previous matches and he was sandbagging teammates at every part of the stream I chose. He was worse than Ochido back in a day. So I reported him.

Well it is a bit of an odd situation where tech moves faster then law once again.
If I were to film people on the street I have to ask their concent to show that anywhere.
Here however the streamers can make use of other players for their content without requireing any concent or censoring of the names.
2 -
which is ironically your opinion that you felt like sharing.
1 -
except you legally can record people in public lol
not to mention you personally are not being streamed, the account you are playing under is
2 -
Sorry but people are free to say what they want on their own stream/channel/etc so long as it follows ToS
being called a potato for going down after 20 seconds isn’t some hate crime
2 -
Oh no! I didn't mean to seem mad, I am genuinely disappointed in my game play because the streamer was really letting me have it and I thought I was ruining their experience by not being at their level (I was rank 8 at the time and they were in green) and I felt horrible about it. But yes, I got into playing games literally 5 months ago, so this is all very new to me. I'm still learning and I want to make sure we all have a good time, so I got upset when this person seemed to be super upset with me when I thought I was doing a good job.
2 -
Just to make things clear, I understand when people criticize or say things on a stream for their audience, I am really new to gaming and I thought that I made their experience bad by playing so poorly according to them. I just want advice because I saw the stream a day later and they were making fun of me for doing little things and I wasn't sure how to feel about it. Sorry!

Yeah and that is still Mr and no is where you live but here you can't do that without consent of the person being filmed is you plan to do anything public with that footage.
Actuary that is another thing
The Web is international but countries have there own different rules
