Wow devs... why can't we have nice little things?
Did you really removed the engine sounds bc of a few complains? Is that how it's going now? No surveys, no longer testing?
Thats just how gens sounds, that are being powered. Me and my friends really liked it. It was cool, refreshing and realistic. Btw the gens sounds really dull now.

The new gen sounds were a lazy afterthought. Even Technician didn’t lower the noises.
Also it was obnoxiously loud playing survivor
22 -
I don't think it was too loud. Technician maybe was a bug. I hope they bring it back in the midchapter patch.

I miss the new gen sounds. After playing this games for +1k hours I really appreciate all attempts to make the game more realistic and immersive.
7 -
gen sounds are now effectively quiet for the killer, despite that tooltips while loading the game specifically tell you that repairing gens causes a lot of noise and they can be used to mask healing sounds. There are so many sound issues with this game and the devs found the time and resources to completely add new sounds to the game instead of fixing the years-old now sound bugs.

I haven't played the game since the latest patch but if the new jet engine gen sounds are gone then I'm happy.
15 -
it sounded like i was hotwiring a car
9 -
I didnt mind the new sounds as survivor. Look away from the gen and they got less loud.
As killer though the distinct sound made it easier to know a gen was being worked on.
The shadow killer buff has been removed
4 -
Wait gens don't sound like cars anymore?
3 -
killer nerf, not a big deal
1 -
I've been playing survivor since the patch came out and didn't even notice!
It's much kinder on the ears.
1 -
They removed the obnoxious engine revving sound? That's awesome. It got annoying quick, especially with multiple survivors on one gen.
3 -
"It was cool, refreshing and realistic."
Those were 3 samples which got repeated over and over again.
8 -
I hope to god they removed that annoying ass car starting sound.
They need to make it play that sound at the 50% mark and again at like the 95% mark.
Not every 2 seconds and stack it on top of other survivors if were all working on the same gen.
5 -
Gens aren't cars. I don't mind new gen sounds but the car didn't sound good at all.
5 -
sounded like we try start a car not fix a gen.
3 -
Will the devs acknowledge that they removed the car engine sounds? Will they even acknowledge that they added them in the first place. Why do I even read the patch notes any more?
3 -
100% agree with you. I was a nice New touch. I play both sides. Survivor mains were crying, It's not stelthy, my tenitus, blah! I liked how it made survivors pay more attention. I'll add they're allergic to gens before, Now "before the revert" they just wouldn't do them. 80% of every game is a survivor gotta keep them happy no matter if it was a GREAT addition or not.
1 -
It was a hot wire sound. Don't be so picky SMH
1 -
Your a baby! Not 1 of you even knows what a gen sounds like when its being hot wired.
0 -
I liked the new sound , but I agree the stacking of the new sound for every survivor working on it was a bit much
2 -
I like the new sound, just for changing it up.
When did they change them back?
0 -
I thought I was! Probably the first gen I worked on was the center in that building connected to the car. I thought I was starting it up! I was so eager to see what happened when it finished (like the boat horn going off, the doctor's lights going haywire, etc). I thought it was going to blast the horn and turn on the headlights. I was disappointed when nothing happened.
2 -
i actually liked them...
kinda sad they are gone now, ngl
1 -
I didn't like the new sounds when we got them, but now I was already ok with them. Still, won't miss them.
0 -
Actually both of those sounds could be played. The former ignition starting, just tuned quieter, and this new metal clunking. Both are good impression what a generator would sound like.
0 -
these gens could have been cars. they it is plausible that it was a car engine repurposed for a generator (not hard to do) having 6 different sounds for a gen even with that is not! if they stuck with one they would have been good but not really good over all.

So we are back to free technician for survivors and forced face checks on gens for killers? They need to delete the new sounds and put the old sounds on the gens until they fix it because you can literally repair the gen next to a killer in a chase and they have no idea you are there.
0 -
I miss them already - I didn't have to essentially facecheck every gen. Ah well, nothing gold can stay I guess.
0 -
It was awful man. The sound was too high and you can't even hear the sound of a hability skill, or even footsteps for the killer.
4 -
That's the point. the gens are supposed to block out the sound of the killer.
1 -
lolz😂
The Wretched Shop gen!
omgz thats Hilarious!
If they bring these sfx back then they have to make that car actually starting, a thing!
Then make ALL the cars on GasHaven start up like the junkyard on NOES 4
Love when devs do more with the in game environment!

I didnt even notice they were off.

If they played less frequently and didn't stack when multiple survivors worked on a gen I think it would have been a good addition. Also literally nobody in this thread has a single clue about generators lmao
0 -
The old gen sound gave off a constant click clack sound that the killer could listen out for to determine if a survivor was working on the gen. The sound of the engine its self was also very loud, blocking killer noise and muffling heartbeat.
The new gen sound gives off ........................................................ that the killer can use to deter.. oh wait it doesn't make a single sound.
Bring back the engine noise as frequent as it was or go back to the clicking noise. silent gens or long pauses in sound are unfair and imbalanced.

You know that's not how a generator sounds when it's pistons are already pumping? They were obnoxious and sounded like bad stock noises for a car repair ad.
2 -
Is this seriously an issue? It's still very noticeable and always has been when a gen is being worked on through a wall with even reasonable volume - Technician reduces the range where the noises can be heard (as for the volume I haven't directly tested against it at different ranges)... without it the base noises (that 99% of survivors have) is still very apparent even when you are mid chase as long as you are in range.
Get headphones if sound on your speakers aren't good enough
0 -
Now if they could undo the bright sparking that can be seen from a mile away. Whats the point of technician when you can just see the bright sparks from any distance?
0 -
Pistons chugging doesn't mean a survivor is working on the gen. I shouldn't have to snug up to a wall or stand there for 3 seconds listening for a tiny bzzt from wires when the old sound game me instant information from quite far away.
I am using headphones. but i also like to keep my hearing and avoid tinnitus thanks.
0 -
Well, its up to you if you want to keep your volume low, but dont expect super-loud sounds just to help you. The current Gen Sounds are easily hearable.
1 -
Then we need to go back to the old sounds so everyone is happy.
If the old sounds worked fine at my settings, and the new sounds don't then it is a huge nerf to killer.
0 -
Piston chugging noises isn't what I'm talking about. It's not just the bzzt from wires but knocking metal sounds almost as loud as someone searching a chest when a survivor is working on it plus a very audible sound of a ratchet or wires that you mentioned.
1 -
You say this, but i have literally worked on and completed a gen while the killer is chasing a survivor next to me. they can't hear it when in chase and you need to be closer to notice it out of chase.
0 -
I didn't even notice. 😂

Guess none of you "gens aren't cars" people have started a generator in your lives. Those old school generators sound like car engines hands down. Modern ones don't really sound that way but dead by daylights generators aren't based off modern generators which is pretty obvious by design.
0 -
i would be happy if the stall sound happens only when the gen reached 25%/50%/75%
0 -
Haha i was going to say, these people are going to have their mind blown when they realize what is in a car and what a generator is
That would be perfect!
