I'm new to this game and have been loving playing as a killer. I came to this board to look for tips, tricks etc. and I keep seeing a ton of comments re: camping/griefing etc.
As a new killer I've been trying to make the trials as scary as possible for the people playing as survivors. I try to make it as hard as I can for them to survive but I want them to have fun too.
I try to hook everyone at least twice, before killing people off, just to make the game last longer. If they get the gates opened I'll even let them crawl to the exit before I hook them. If that player helped the other survivors throughout the trial and I have already hooked them twice I reward them by letting them leave. But not before picking them up and dropping them back at the gate entrance and I'll follow them and stand above them as they leave.
If a survivor was selfish and never helped the others, I make sure they die I will stand and watch it happen just to make sure it does.
For the most part I honestly don't care if survivors escape I just want it to be a horrifying and fun experience. I'll stand and stare at the survivor either on or off the hook. I'll put traps around hooked survivors, generators, exits etc. just to make them have to fight harder to get out.
I never thought of what I do as camping or griefing, or exploiting. I thought of it as making a heart pumping frightening experience for the other players.
Then I come here and apparently what I'm doing is considered bad etiquette. This confused me. I thought this was a horror game, like Outlast only you can be the killer.
This isn't Call of Duty, this isn't WoW or any other standard PvP scenario. This is a Horror game where the object is for the killer to scare the hell out of and kill the suvivors.
I play on PS4 so there isn't any actual communication between myself and the survivors, and now I'm glad there isn't. I wouldn't want to read all the whining about griefing.

I'd say play this game in anyway you want. Don't let their made up rules stop you. Camping and any other playstyle as killer is allowed as long as it doesn't hold the game hostage at all (stopping survivors from escaping by blocking them in the basement with no intention to move or attack is an example of holding the game hostage)0

I think you are playing exactly is it should be played. As long as you aren't hacking, I think you're fine. If it is a built-in mechanic, there is no such thing as incorrect etiquette (this includes camping, flashlights, ds and tunneling.
Complainers will find something to complain about no matter what. This game has pretty bad end game chat screen so I just started skipping it, especially if I 3-4k.0 -
Fun that's all that matters
