Beginner Trapper Build?
I just started playing last weekend and I am absolutely loving this game! Especially trapper because of the map control and 3 gens being so damn good on him.
I am still a ways away from unlocking any more killers or survivors, so I was tossing around two build ideas to build towards with my trapper (farmed while playing david with my friend).
Perks: Brutal Strength, Enduring, Agitation, Iron Grasp
Add ons: bag
This to me seems like a very safe build to go for. It lets me chase better and get survivors into the basement for a win con. The other build I was considering is a bit more experimental but is born from my frustration of not being able to set up my traps fast enough before the gen rush snowballs (no ruin or corrupt intervention).
Perks: Thanatophobia, Sloppy Butcher, Agitation, Iron Grasp
Add ons: Bag and maybe rusted jaws?
I know Thanatophobia is considered a bad perk, but I'm hoping that alongside sloppy butcher (always hitting someone who is trapped for after they are unhooked) it will really slow the survivors down and give me more time to control my 3 gens. It especially slows down anyone using self heal (by 75% minimum without botany!). I could also switch Agitation/Iron Grasp out for Brutal Strength/Enduring but the basement win con is still giving me free wins.
Do yall think its a total waste of blood points?

No idea what perks you have available, but Whispers is a good perk for Trapper so you might try that one?

Trapper isn´t exactly a beginner-friendly Killer. Nonetheless I love him too and mained him for quite some time.
So now regarding your builds: With the tools at your disposal these seem pretty solid. The good gen slowdown perks will become increasingly more important the higher your rank will become, so bear that in mind when you can unlock your first DLCs via shards (get plague).
If you have whispers tier 3, replace iron grasp with that. Agitation is superior to iron grasp in basically every way and the added benefits from IG are pretty minor. It takes a while to get accustomed to it but if you have it down Whispers is one of the very best tracking tools. If it´s off you also know that placing a trap is safe right now and it won´t be disarmed instantly (unless they use Object of Obsession, a perk you will learn to despise).
Since it´s basically your only slowdown right now thana is fine especially if paired with sloppy. It will get changed soon and lose most of it´s value though.
Addons: Always bring a bag, it´s insanely crippling for Trapper to not run at least the brown one. After that it´s up to you, setting speed addons are neat and tar bottle is great imo.
Wish you good fortune with Trapper, he´s one of the hardest Killers to play successfully!

Thankyou for your advice! I wasnt sure if whispers would be good on trapper or not because I tend not to track people for too long with him (instead I control my 3 gens and keep switching around the traps until they mess up) but I didnt think about using it to set safe traps when noone is looking. I'll try it out!
I like playing trapper to learn the game with because instead of relying on the wraith's cloak gimmick for easy kills I have to predict how the game will play out and where the survivors will move. I feel like I'm learning faster by playing him even if its easier to get wins on wraith.
Also you mentioned thana is getting changed?

Yes, they are going to remove the healing slowdown of Thana and the current PTB suggests the gen slowdown will be increased by 1% to compensate. I forgot to mention in my previous post that you definately should check out otzdarva either on twitch or on youtube, he has very in-depth guides on Killers, addons and everything around DBD basically, including which characters to get when. He´s also a well renowned Trapper main!

When I restarted on PC recently I decided to give Trapper a whirl. Having only his perks + general perks I went with this.
Brutal Strength
Sloppy Butcher
NOED
And Spies from shadows (Never really used this perk, its surprising good at revealing nearby survivors who may be watching your trap placements).
Then I played the 3 gen strat.

You need to get corrupt intervention, his set up time is what hinders him the most against good squad because 3 gens will pop before you know it

If you don't have any other purchasable killer or leveled up basic ones: Brutal strength (Trapper), Agitation (Trapper), Hex: No ED (General), whispers (General).
If you have the free ones leveled up: Nurses Calling (Nurse), brutal strength (Trapper), Thanatophobia (Nurse), Sloppy Butcher (General)
If you start purchasing killers: Thanataphobia (Nurse), BBQ and chili (Bubba), Pop goes the weasel (Clown), Corrupt intervention (Plauge), Nurses Calling (Nurse), Hex ruin and undying combination (Hag and blight), Sloppy butcher (General)

noed, tinker, sloppy and nurse's calling might be the best f2p base game loadout.
but once you get the chance my fav load for him is: hex: haunted grounds, discordance, save the best for last and pop goes the weasel. i play trapper at red ranks if that means anything to you. dont be mad if for dont get consistently good games trapper is just a naturally inconsistent killer i routinely get 4kills and 0 killer back to back in red ranks and rarely any other out come
