Why do so many survivors struggle to warn you when the killer's not there?
I switched from playing on PC to PS4 and have noticed a dramatic increase in the amount of times someone will half-struggle. On PC, it meant the killer is not far enough away to safely unhook them. On PS4, people will do it right after the killer someone downs someone on the other side of the map.
Or they'll do it when I only have a few seconds left to rescue them before they go to tier/stage two. If I did unhook them while they were in stage one, worse case scenario is the killer downs them again and they go to stage two. They're making sure they go to stage two by struggling. It's not like they're trying to kill themselves because they'll struggle (the button mashing kind) after that until I unhook them. I'm a higher rank on Playstation than I am on PC so it's not like I'm dealing with lower rank survivors than usual.
Does anyone know why?

The common use for doing the struggle is to warn that the Killer is nearby.
Doing nothing IS the way to tell you that it's safe.
At least that's how it started, after a year or so, people started mixing it up.

There appears to be little consensus about what struggle patterns means what.
The only thing I know for sure is if the survivor is quickly spamming struggle, the killer is facecamping, or searching the area *very closely*.

Flailing is usually a sign of camping. Almost attempting is usually "NOBODY'S COMING MORONS, GET ME OFF NOW." Or at least that's what I've been told.

I've often thought an addition to the Perk: Kindred would be nice, i.e. you could push the "Y" button so highlight yourself in a Green Aura which indicates "Come Get Me" or hit "B" for a Red Aura which says "Do Not Come and Get Me."

It's like pointing. It could mean 10 different things based on context and what each individual perceives it to mean.
I pointed at a Pig that had me cornered and my teammate thought I was betraying his position so he left me to die.
Fucking stupid.

IMO it does not have any meaning anymore. I see players doing it while the Killer is not nearby, and when I do it while I get camped, someone is still coming for the rescue (Funfact - that Leatherface did not leave the Basement and the Survivor should have seen that...).
So yeah, I still try to warn players when I get camped, but it does not work. And I ignore it when others are doing it.

I would love this to be honest.

I usually struggle if no one is coming for me.

Part of that is the 3rd Person viewpoint that Survivor's use rather than the 1st Person that Killers use. It is very difficult for Survivors to really get a perfect bead on what people are pointing at because their viewpoint is so fluid. I'm sure to that person it did look like you were pointing at them. Worse still, there is a small but nasty number of Survivors that do work for the Killer and spoil matches. I think ti is cheating and should be banned. When I, as a Killer meet one of these types clearly trying to work with me, I down them immediately and will camp them in a way to make sure they sac out. I report them and provide the video.
I also think other Killers who run into them should refuse to accept their help.

I use it to signal that the killer is still near when it's a stealth killer. And I do this when I'm slowly nearing the second stage and see that no one is about to come, this works 50/50. I see other people also signal that they aren't getting saved which makes me go for them.

I struggle slowly when I’m bored on the hook. As it’s more fun than just lying there motionless and I struggle fast when nobody is coming to get me. It’s my way of saying HURRY THE ######### UP!

I think I could've phrased this more clearly. What I mean is, when it's very clear the killer is not nearby (because they're chasing someone else far away, I have Kindred and/or Spine Chill, etc), what's the point of half struggling? It doesn't matter if it's a wraith or someone more visible like the puke lady. I keep seeing it and I have yet to see one instance where it helped.
Edit: meant Spine Chill; not Premonition

When survivors start doing that, I'm far more inclined to leave them on the hook even if I'm nearby and go back to my gen because I assume there's a stealthed killer nearby. Doing gymnastics when there's no killer around is far more likely to get you killed than the other way around.
What should be consensus by now:
arm waving (lots): killer is camping
arm waving (twitching): killer is nearby
arm movement (once or max twice): please pay attention to me dying over here on the hook :,(
nothing: just waiting for someone to come get me / someone is on his/her way.
The middle two have much more gray area and are most useful when survivors have additional info to form the context, but the first and final should be clear.

well, thats the way i still use it.
though i mostly just chill and let my Kindred bive them all the info they need xD
i use it on characters i havent leveled though / when i replaced Kindred with sthg else

Do like me some Kindred. 😏

no joke, Kindred is lowkey amazing.
even for SWFs, who often just disregard it as "the solo perk" - having a reversed BBQ effect on the killer is ridiculously good!

I use it to warn but it’s all wishy washy on what to do now that’s why kindred has become a must for solo que I feel we should come up to some consensus on this lol
