The hidden potential of Red Herring
I've been playing with Red Herring for a little while trying to decide between it and Diversion, and today I had a match which proved the enormous amount of potential the perk has, so I wanted to share this experience:
It was against a Hillbilly with Tinkerer and we were only 2 remaining, stuck with a 3 gen. It was a hopeless situation, but then I had an illumination: generators "marked" by Red Herring stay marked until you start repairing another generator, but what the description doesn't say is that it's true only if you repair the other gen for at least 3 seconds. So I marked one of the gens, and started repairing the furthest one in short 2s "bursts", so that the other gen stayed marked. At about 70% I activated Red Herring so that the killer checked the wrong gen and I had enough time to repair mine. Unfortunately the other survivor couldn't make it, but I escaped with a whopping 32k (yes, I kobed earlier).
I don't think any other perk could have turned such a hopeless situation in my favour, and now Red Herring entered my favourite perk club.

Thats a creative way to use that perk, but wouldnt a attentive killer know whats going on?

I also had pretty funny plays with it. Like, a killer chases me off a gen, i'm injured, no loop nearbyy i enter a random locker, killer leaves me...lol.

Not in that situation...
If it's a 3 gen killer will check any notifications around gens

Me
Ever since I stopped an almost completed gen that was gonna get popped and got facecamped for it, obviously I'm gonna keep running it

Red Herring is a great perk. It’s a genuinely reliable distraction for the killer. It’s even BETTER paired with Dance With Me when stuck in a real bind.
Hear the TR? Get in that locker to give off the notification, then burst out of the locker and disappear while the killer confusingly checks the locker.

Red Herring is a powerful perk, but I think it needs one buff to be perfect: to allow you to use it with a button press, as opposed to the instant you get into a locker.

Creative way to use this perk, I love it! I've not gotten around to really running a build surrounding it, but I really like the way you used it.

Nobody expects a red herring. These perks work because nobody thinks they will work.

It's rare enough that it will throw off any Killer! Good job on that one, you used it in a really smart way! 👍️

It might have hidden potential, but for me
Its kills me.
Its an old message but I was running red harring and diversion at the end of the game i hopped into the locker hoping the killer would run to the other side. He checked the closest locker and killed me.
