There are none...

Counterplay to a good SWF team? None.

Yes, there is.
When he's using his punishment, there is a big old light on the ground that shows where he's shooting, and you can react to that and dodge it easily.
3 -
You haven't faced a veteran pyramid head yet lol
0 -
Yes, I have.
Whether the punishment hits you or not outside of animation lock is the survivors choice, because of how telegraphed the attack is.
Why don't you counter my points instead of telling me about how I haven't faced a good PH?
2 -
Camp, tunnel plenty of options. As a solo survivor I just get to die :)
0 -
No he's just broken right now, I'm stating facts here not open for argument.

Stealth?
How many killers in general use Whispers on a regular basis?

You don't win a swf by camping. The person on the hook will immediately tell the others to not come for him because the killer is camping and the other 3 will escape while the killer is licking the dust off of the hooked survivor's shoe for 120 seconds. And they'll bodyblock perfectly and run DS to prevent tunneling.
There are so many things you can do to counter pyramid head. First thing is to not be greedy and throw pallets whenever you can and make distance. His PoTD is not hitscan. It takes time to reach you which means even when you are within range, it'll take a while before the attack reaches you. Judge this distance accurately and you'll be able to dodge after vaulting a window. A good PH will go either left or right so it's a 50/50 at that point.
If you are in a loop and if PH misses his PoTD, immediately drop the pallet and gain distance. He wants to loop you so stop giving what he wants. Just hold W every moment you can. If he is baiting, pretend that you pass the pallet and then double back and throw it on his face. It should stun him and knock him out of his Posts. Again hold W and make massive distance. I always run to the other side of the map diagonally before he comes any closer to me when this happens. That's a massive time waste. You will go down eventually. You can't loop him forever and that's how it should be.
Don't loop him like other killers. Treat him differently and stop being afraid to make predictions. Every time I play PH, a bad survivor always tries to dodge and be obvious. Make reads like the killer does and be unpredictable. See how and when the killer is using his power and then use that knowledge.

Tell me how he's broken then. If you aren't open for argument, why are you posting in a discussion forum?

Okay tell me then what you do at a pallet loop? It is a massive guessing game if he's going to basic attack or use rites of judgment right into punishment of the damned with no cool down btw. Or are you such a godly gamer that you dodge him every time?... It's a 50/50 mind game everytime there is no counter play. Like normally i can crouch and dodge a hatchet or some puke or a deathslinger harpoon but not with PH.

I mean it depends what you think is a win as a killer, if I can get at least one against a really good swf team I consider that job well done.
0 -
Well Guess what? Pyramid head is going to have a cooldown in 2 days, and won't be able to basic attack instantly.
You can loop him normally, if he tries to shoot you, look for the big red light on the ground and dodge it.

50/50 mindgame is THE counterplay. Equal chance for both sides unless you're comparing him with another M1 killer that you can loop for ages. A killer has always relied on survivor's mistake for a hit. He gambles at every loop, every pallet and makes a guess. And this has been a thing ever since the game came out. A killer has to make several reads and right ones and if he doesn't he'll lose the game just because of how quick the gens can go. Why can't the survivors take a 50/50? It's balanced and fair.

Easier said than done but alright.

Try to break LOS (at least the first time you're chased) and make him think you'll loop, but really just hold W.
Most Pyramid Heads are kinda goofy and set preemptive trails or go for cheeky PotD hits. If they do you'll make a lot of distance.
Even if they are good/call you out on holding W you'll at least force an M1 (since his M2 is easy to dodge if you're in the open and it slows him a lot) and get a speed boost to keep holding W.
-
If there are multiple level loops abuse the heck out of them.
He can't use POTD over drops or gaps, so windows and pallets that drop down are your best friend. Be aware of potential angles where he can hit you/there is a continuous line of terrain though; loops like the Corn Harvester are safe from most directions, but have angles where POTD can hit you.
Use them at your risk and only if you think the PH is a bit below amazing level.
-
Unless avoiding stepping in a trail would give him a free and easy slug for pressure that could be avoided, don't do it. Ever.
Being Tormented just gives him a free Mori / tunnel / camp if he has Iridescent Seal of Metatron.
Never give him that. It can and will cost the game.
-
Basically, play like a Rank 20 and force him to be an M1 Killer.
It's the dumbest and most boring counterplay in the world, but it actually buys time.
Most of the time.
-
Whether you have teammates that use that time is another matter entirely.
0 -
There's plenty of killers that have minimal mindgame and it is much more fun that way cause you need actual skill as that killer and not just luck.
0 -
You're free to think he's broken, but that's a qualitative attribute and thus an opinion, not a fact.
A fact is that he moves at 4.6 m/s and has 0 extra mobility in his power. He may be great in chases, but if your team does gens you can beat him.
Splitting up and doing separate gens hurts him just like every other Killer.
0 -
So fake a pallet drop? You don't know how many times I've tried that and it not work, they just backtrack for one milisecond and then continue after me with the m1. He severely needs a cool down to be able to walk again after using rites of judgement.

I mean nah not really.
Compare him to billy who is classified as a "fun" killer, a good survivor will have him looped for upwards of 2+ minutes if he plays safe.
As Billy, you're relying on mistakes, NOT your own skill. Obv if you are not good you will be looped longer, but a good skilled killer should never be able to be reliably ran for minutes.
These 50/50s is what makes chase killers like PH, Slinger and Doctor good.

I play solo and only solo I don't have the luxury of telling teamates to split up. And For the rare times I actually find someone playing pyramid head he 4k's 9 times out of 10 if that doesn't seem broken then that's on you.
0 -
I guess it depends what ranks your playing at but I've deffinitly been bullied by very, very good billy's that moped the floor with us, so killers with a gamble to them aren't very necessary and kinda seem cheap. Thinking of it now that would be the cause of so much salt and people dc'ing all the time. Losing a bs mindgame isn't fun.
0 -
Sounds like you and your team played bad if you got moped by a billy who relies on mistakes and survivors grouping up.
Killers with 50/50s are kinda needed as every other killer that doesn't have this are so easy to loop unless they have something else like a trap in place. Doing a bunch of mindgames is needed to catch good players as they will eventually fail.

I'd say it takes luck at times, but pay attention to their judgement attacks that light up on the way! And if you hear him ready that ish, swerve a lot!! That has saved me numerous times! In fact, I think I clipped a game where I evaded it twice super close to him, although I got downed in the end from a basic attack haha! Also, careful with pallets, I'd say faking a vault is a great bet-- maybe do a slow one if you see they're readying that long range one. Don't get distracted by the thickness, either, he's evil :( Good luck in your next match and I hope it's fun :)!!

There is none, he creates lose-lose situations with his M2 when you are at a pallet/window. He will be getting some changes in the next update to address this.
0 -
Well his upcoming changes will make the "me hold M2 at everything and there's nothing you can do" not very viable because of the cooldown afterwards (you can still do it though so unless they fix it the change is probably gonna do nothing)

Well in your case (being solo q and saying PH is broken) there is none. It’s like a new boxer asking how they beat a pro. It’s just not possible.
It takes experience, good reflexes and guessing (till his changes).
It’s fine if you think he’s overpowered but you say a “good pyramid head” yet refer to just the killer himself. Of course a good killer is going to dominate and average or ok team. Just like a good team will dominate an ok killer.
1 -
There definetely is some.
I used to believe that he's waaay too strong in a chase but after some time i realized that there definetely is counterplay to him.
In short. You want to throw him off with weird pathing and be as unpredictable as possible.
1 -
Nowhere in my, admittedly massive, wall of text did I say fake a pallet drop.
Don't go to loops. Make him think you will but actually just hold W.
Countering Pyramid Head isn't about not going down, it's about making that take as long a time as possible.
0 -
If your teammates aren't splitting up and doing gens it doesn't matter whether you're facing a Pyramid Head or an addonless Clown; you're probably going to all die.
That's not Pyramid Head being oppressive, that's your team killing you; i.e. the standard solo experience.

And when you're animation locked?
0 -
Well, since his "damned if you do, damned if you don't" ability is getting nerfed, you can just dodge him and make him cancel his power.
0 -
*Hopefully. You forgot to say "Hopefully" getting nerfed, because it really wasn't in the PTB.
I definitely think that his POTD is too easy to avoid outside of the range of a normal lunge for exactly the reasons you said, but that's kind of why most PH's currently wait til the survivor is animation locked to use it.
0 -
Yeah, I hope they buff his ability to use his power outside of animation lock, and nerf his zoning way more than they have in the PTB.
I have faith in the devs.
