Halloween skins

I remember that at least on the first blight (halloween) event there was a mechanic where u could interact with the pustulas in-match, get a certain amount of the nectar in your serum and when you fill it max, u would get a market currency that u could spend on the seasonal skins.
Is there any reason why they changed the free method to get them or they just want more money?
