Whether they hire employees to make events or not, the ones who have already been hired are still getting paid a salary, which is where the "costs money" comes in.

    There are no free lunches.

    ?

You're reading me wrong as well.

This doesn't cost jack ######### to them. They're a multi-million dollar company that could do whatever the hell they want, and they'd rather make more money in the short-term than have player longevity in the long-term.

Well you know, I guess "Life is like a box of chocolates and all that." You can vote with your wallet at any time. You know where the door is located. The only question is how dramatic and "me... me... me... me..." you are going to be on the way out. When I eventually finish playing DbD, I will quietly exit stage left. I can only imagine how unhappy you must be that Santa Killer didn't bring you a new free make-believe outfit to wear. It must have been a tragic morning, and the very definition of first world problems.

    *I'm mad because I didn't get a free make-believe outfit.

That is a lie and you know it. Employees have to design those costumes and make them. Unless you expect they're just working for free? However they get it to us - ie, making us pay for them, or giving them to us as freebies - they are absolutely costing Behavior via payroll if nothing else.

Sorry, shill is probably not the right word to use.

Either way, having access to everything a game has to offer that you have to pay an initial fee for is not and should not be an issue, outside of actual DLC, which should come with all of the cosmetics that are tied to said DLC.

Sorry that I enjoy actual good practices for the consumer.

I agree that it is disappointing that there are no free skins this year. This doesn't seem like an event at all.

So who paid for the employees' salaries? Because I guarantee you they didn't work for free. Hell, the guy who made a Trapper mask for free a while ago got paid for it.

You're pretty salty that I disagree with you, how quaint.

I've been playing this game since launch, and never have I seen them be more ridiculously greedy than right now. It costs them virtually nothing to repeat a past event compared to, let's say, FIXING THE GAME. I've never been mad about not getting a free skin that does literally nothing, I'm mad that they're disregarding their community and being incompetent. Believe whatever you want, though.

So let me get this straight. Two free skins, that you have to grind for, is unreasonable? Sound the alarms everyone, TWO free skins are gonna drive BHVR down. I'm not denying the fact that buying everything is their main source of revenue stream - that's not what I'm asking for at all. I am fine with buying new DLC's, new killers, new survivors, whatever. That is fine. I don't buy skins because I personally don't care about them - the skins aren't the problem.

True, we don't have to pay for a subscription or anything of the like. But there are far more games where you don't have to do that either, and you can still get plenty of things for free. The problem is a decision like this, especially compared to past events, makes BHVR come across as greedy. Is BHVR as big a company as Blizzard, EA, whatever - No, not by a long shot. Just because BHVR made the game, pays for it, does not mean we can't complain about the nutty decisions they make. If this game was a F2P then yes, I could understand this, but it isn't. I've seen F2P's give more free items than BHVR ever has.

If we look at how much DbD is, and how much it would cost to get all the DLC's this game already costs more than typical AAA games. With all the people that also pay for skins, and also pay for the Rift's, I somehow seriously doubt two free skins that not everyone would get would break their bank. The biggest problem I have is this event feels like such a gigantic middle finger to the community, the very people who keep the game alive. We get some charms, a lot of which are still exclusive, and a barren free track filled with recolors. People have a right to be disappointed. The reasoning of "Oh, they have to make money!" Doesn't mean anything when they already make money on everything else the game has done. Even if you're not disappointed, or you're alright with the even doesn't mean you can call the people who are, who have completely valid reasoning unreasonable because they want a couple free skins. Per year. This event added with all the bugs, the terrible optimization - it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't feel like BHVR cares about the community.

    Again: ?

I never said they don't pay their employees, I've said that it doesn't cost them anything other than the time to repeat a yearly event. I never asked for free cosmetics (as the other argument against me clearly implies), and never said the cosmetics don't cost anything to make (they have a whole team dedicated to this): repeating events doesn't cost them anything. Instead of doing that, they instead did a cash-grab of cosmetics and a p2p event.

I'm not salty at all; I'm laughing at you. I find this entire thread pathetic. I find undeserved entitlement, which is rampant these days, to be one of the funniest things under the sun. I feel the obligation to point this out, so that nobody confuses my silence for agreement. I'm here to play the game. Free stuff is great when it happens, but coming to expect it is just ungrateful at worst and unrealistic at best. If you want something, buy it. If you aren't happy, you move on. It really is as simple as that.

No, it was not the right word. If you wanted to be insulting you could have called me a "suck up" or an "apologist" and at least had one leg to stand on. What would be most correct is to call me a pragmatist or a realist. This is a business and the business model is selling the game, DLC, and cosmetics. They already give free stuff away, which apparently has created unrealistic expectations in some of you. Since joining this game, I've been given a massive amount of BP for free. When I've encountered issues, so far, I've always been compensated.

I understand that you are let down. I'm just suggesting that perhaps your expectations are unrealistic. None of us, outside the company, know what kind of bills they pay, their costs, or the state of their books. I think it is unwise to make assumptions one way or the other. But even if they were Scrooge McDuck and had a vault full of money, it doesn't change the fact that they are not obligated to give us anything for free.

  • Moundshroud
    Moundshroud Member Posts: 4,458

You get to participate in the event for free. You are under no obligation to buy the cosmetic nor does it provide any competitive edge. I simply don't see the disconnect. Our priorities are clearly very different.

I would point out that negative feedback loops like this don't benefit the community at all. They divide it and give bad press to anyone new coming in here. It sets up a notion that it is an us versus them. If you cared one bit about the community you would be creating a positive feedback loop. :)

  • RockoRango
    RockoRango Member Posts: 554

Now you're either trolling or thinking irrationally. Where do you think we'd be without negative feedback? No where, as the game would've just died due to no one acknowledging the issues.

You're the one showing negative feedback towards the community that wants more than just a few pay-to-get cosmetics like they've been getting every year.

  • Moundshroud
    Moundshroud Member Posts: 4,458

Do you really want me to lecture you and explain the difference between a negative and positive feedback loop? Somehow, I doubt it. What I am going to point out is this tantrum of a thread isn't going to have the effect you want. You want to vent, well you are venting on the company's dime. That is another freebie they are giving you even as we type. You should feel vindicated that they are so progressive that they are willing to pay for you badmouthing them. They will even leave these posts up for posterity should anyone want to go back and look at them later.

To be irrational, I would have to be emotional about this in the first place. I'm not; I'm a cold fish when it comes to this topic. Let me give you some context that I think will help:

    1. I don't care about cosmetics.
    2. I don't buy cosmetics.
    3. I will happily take and use any free stuff they give me.
    4. The basic game was cheap.
    5. The DLC I've bought so far were all cheap.
    6. There are constantly sales going on that are 60%+ off.
    7. There is no competitive edge to any of the cosmetics.
    8. All Perks introduced by new DLC eventually show up on the Shrine.
    9. We don't pay a subscription fee.
    10. The company literally loses money on me, as I'm an extremely thrifty shopper.

Oddly enough, you are exactly the kind of customer they want, i.e. someone who simply must have whatever new "Skin" is available for your favorite Killer, or new outfit for your Survivor build. Getting this junk is so important to you that you explode in anger if you don't get the fix. Well you know, the first taste is always free. This is a business. You are demanding they give you free stuff. I'm simply pointing out that their very business model is based on selling you the stuff you want for free. Which of us do you truly think sounds more rational?

Eh. They really jumped the shark with the whole Institute imo. I'm aware it was set up in 3 but it went a bit far for my tastes. Then theres the mountain of retcons. And the voiced protagonist. Dear god why.

It was barely an RPG. It was a loot shooter with RPG elements. That said the base shooter gameplay was actually up to the standard of the times unlike 3/NV. But NV had better wapon/designs and builds as a whole. I'm getting worked up over how good NV is again.

    Moundshroud Member Posts: 4,458

Somehow I suspect the company understands this community better than you or I do. If they did not, they would not still be here. And for me to "suck up" you would have to assume that they even bother reading these threads. I'm pretty sure they wrote this one off after the first post. I know I would have.

  • RockoRango
    RockoRango Member Posts: 554

Why would they have to bother reading the threads to call you a suck-up? You're being a white knight because you'd rather tell blindly tell people to stop playing if they don't like it instead of looking at what they've done and not feeding BHVR's ego. You obviously don't understand what an event is either, so there's no point in explaining.

  • Moundshroud
    Moundshroud Member Posts: 4,458

Because, technically, to be a "suck up" I would have to be saying things I believe they would want to hear in a place they are likely to hear. This thread is 1) Not one of those places they are likely to hear me, and 2) what I have to say is unlikely to be anything they want to hear. I tell people who are unhappy to vote with their wallet and leave. I'm sure they would prefer you to just vent like a smokestack here and continue to play. I tell people I don't buy cosmetics and don't see why you do. I'm sure they prefer people who do buy cosmetics.

So in short, I'm not a shill, a suck up, or an apologist. I'm just a pragmatist who accepts that free things are great when you get them, but you should never come to expect them.

With the amount of paid content they release (literally just releasing game resources behind a paywall) you'd think they could invest it back into the game but with the lack of quests that have actual story and aren't replayable it's clear they really just don't care.

  • Kolonite
    Kolonite Member Posts: 1,346

I don't disagree, but you don't have to buy the battle pass or cosmetics. You also to an extent don't have to buy killers you don't want for perks if you're ok dealing with the Shrine of Secrets.

Are you trying to tell me you're not satisfied with the free charms they're giving out? You should be happy they're giving out anything for free - they are a company made for profit after all. /s

The problem with this whole topic is that the community was expecting the same event treatment as last year (and they gave out 2 whole Skins) and to suddenly take out a part that made the event a bit more enjoyable, is a downgrade.

It's the same as if you look at new phone releases, wasn't there a big backlash when Apple suddenly anounced, that the new iPhones wouldn't have earphones? And now they will release the new phone without a charging cable. But the big difference this time is, they told the customers beforehand, that they will discontinue charging cables.

Was it for the profit to sell loading stations? Of course ... have they warned possible customers beforehand, totally.

So if BHVR had told us beforehand, that this time we won't get event currency for whatever reason, this might have been a little different.

BHVR and DBD do not exist in a vacuum. There are free games with free events that give out free skins that ######### all over anything BHVR is doing here. It has nothing to do with "entitlement," or whatever word-of-the-day you want to use, it has to do with expectations set by the industry, including by BHVR themselves. As such, BHVR should be fully prepared and indeed surprised in no way by the backlash they're getting.

They made a ######### event with ######### rewards, and now they're reaping what they've sown. They are not entitled to our money or praise anymore than we are "entitled" to free skins or fun events. Except without us, BHVR no longer exists. Without BHVR, we have one less video game in an ocean of video games. The onus is on them to try and please us and make us want to spend money, rather than making unpleasant money-grubbing events that are frankly pathetic Z-tier trash.

It's barely an RPG. Horrendous writing and dialogue options as the player that boiled down to " 'good guy', 'good guy but funny', 'useless question' and 'bad guy but actually good guy because the story progresses the same way regardless' ", your choices meant nothing in the main questline, every character was flat and not interesting in the slightest except maybe Valentine, the world was lifeless and boring, awful optimisation when you actually got into the downtown areas, the new systems such as building and weapon customisation could've been so much more, RPG elements were insultingly simple and streamlined...etc. Compared to New Vegas or Fallout 1&2, it's not even close to being anywhere near as interesting as those games.

  • magicmaster2020
    magicmaster2020 Member Posts: 499

The story in New Vegas just wasnt my cup of tea. In 4 at least once you picked which people you wanted to join you don't immediately become enemies with the other ones like in New Vegas. It's not even the fact that I like one over the other. I just don't think it's a disgrace. I found Danse to be interesting too once you go into the story.

  • ALostPuppy
    ALostPuppy Member Posts: 3,398

It's fine if you enjoy 4 and not new Vegas, everyone has their own tastes and I respect your opinion. It's just that most people who were really into New Vegas and obsidian's style for fallout really found nothing of value from 4 and it felt like a slap in the face.
