DbD and its many MANY issues
I don't know about every one else but I've realized A LOT more people quitting the game/taking breaks because of how stale its become, and to be honest I can't really blame them. The game at its core has stayed the same for 4 years now. Now you could say the same thing for the majority of games out there, what separates DbD from them is that they make regular balance changes according to what the meta is. Which brings me to the first issue:
balance
Dbd is by far the slowest game at pumping out balance changes I've ever seen, they every once in a while bring balance to the game that really shouldn't be taking that long. Balance changes should shift the meta every mid-chapter patch AT LEAST to keep the game diverse and interesting for the existing player base. Its not like the community aren't giving suggestions either. Some perks have been in the meta for way too long and its time for change, and the worst part is some of these perks are locked behind a pay wall which brings me to issue #2.
Monetization
Now I'm no game developer, but I and I'm sure many of you can agree that DbD has some of the most payed content I have ever seen in any game. On PC the game is already at 22,99$CAN, which wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't 133.83$CAN in DLC. And that's not even counting the cosmetic DLC's and the official soundtrack. The majority of said DLC's how ever can be obtained by simply playing, but just counting licensed chapters you're still spending 62.32$ CAN. I can assure you the amount of micro-transactions have driven people away from this game, considering you HAVE to pay more than double if you want access to all content. And when you get said content? You need to level them up. Which brings me to issue #3
The grind
The grind in this game resembles that of a F2P game, and this again drives many players away from this game. It is in no way appealing looking at 100+ perks for both sides, having to level them up and also having to level up the 40+ characters. Most people are forced to play 1 or 2 characters as those are the only characters they have perks on to stand a chance, and even then they got absolutely bodied by issue #4
Matchmaking
Matchmaking has always been an issue, especially for newer players. There are many instances of people having less than 100 hours and reaching red ranks. Or people who are in green ranks going against a full red rank squad. This NEEDS to be addressed and quite honestly I have no hope in MMR. Ranking up in this game is simply too easy, its the main reason why solo queue is a nightmare. Any killer whose played the game for a few hundred hours can stand a chance in red ranks nowadays, because some survivors who are in red ranks, SIMPLY SHOULDN'T BE IN RED RANKS. Ranking up in this game needs to be harder, and matchmaking needs to change.
TLDR
There should be more balance changes to keep the game fun and diverse for the existing players, monetization is way too much for a game that isn't F2P, the grind in this game is absurd and matchmaking needs to be looked at

Good post.
A certain part of the blame's ought to go to the community, though. There's a small, but very loud part that continuously will beat any suggestions/attempts to shake things up in the game, demand really big name franchises to be added without realizing that will cost money, etc.

Christ, DBD is a free to play game isnt it, but you pay for it. Damn this game really is hitting the fan.

I'm fine with them having licensed content locked behind a pay wall, at least the characters themselves, but the fact that their OWN content is locked is dumb, and it costs WAY too much.

More transparency would probably be a step in the right direction. Like, if it's legally possible (might not be due to NDAs), show us where the money goes. wages, equipment, taxes, etc.

Making the DLC 9000 shards each is a little too much too, maybe 9000 shards for the whole DLC Survivor + Killer, that wouldn't be so bad.
