Ways to grind iri Shards?
The shrine has tinkerer on it and I really want to get it but I only have like 620 shards. I can only play tonight and tommorow but I really want that perk but don't play enough to want to grind points into billy. What are some ways I can grind those easily.
For reference I am level 73 no devotion

i am pretty sure its faster to just grind the bp on billy than it is to get enough shards to get it on the shrine

I second this. You're probably looking at 1 to 1.2 million BP to get Billy to level 40. If you're using BBQ and BP offerings, you can get a million BP in 10-12 killer matches (not including tome challenges). So that can be done in a single long session. Shards are intentionally grindy as hell to get, so I think it would legitimately take much longer to buy it from the shrine from scratch

why 20 matches specifically?

i dont get why people just dont level up free characters, it takes WAY MORE MUCH TIME getting shards than bloodpoints on free characters.

Because the grind is big enough and you need the BP on your main characters. Especially in the beginning, it is a nice help to get quicker to the builds you like to play without spreading your BP among 3 characters before you even get the chance to find the perks in your bloodweb, which is on top unlikely unless you max out the character for currently around 8 million BP

I don't wanna put in so much time and effort grinding for a killer I'm never going to play

I believe they're telling you that it's faster to level the killer than grind the shards, even if you won't play that killer. I'd save shards to buy killers or DLC perks. Bought Blight during the Halloween event. Good use of shards.

It gets easier after first devotion. You basically can afford a new character every 50/25/25 levels, or several perks if you're not interested in the characters and just want to get lucky with perks/extra blood points.

Painreliever did a video of it. Best way is to just play the game, that's all.

Well, you can do the math yourself.
You get max amount of xp per match once you hit 10 minutes of game time.
This is 550 xp per 10 minutes
300*2 once per day for playing each side.
Emblem bonus is miniscule, it isn't worth taking into consideration at all.
This and thanks to the wiki, which says you earn around 250 shards per hour. It would take you 8 hours to get 2000 shards... 8 hours of pure game play.
It is much better to use BP to get perks off characters that can be bought with iri shards.
It takes at max 1.500.000 bp to get a character from 1 to 50.
You can somewhat reliably get 90k bp per game (killer of course, BBQ + 100% offering), which would require you to play around 16 or 17 games, which may take you around 4 or 5 hours to get through and unlock... 3 teachables rather than just 1 per 8 hours of pure game play.
Because there is also a lobby and loading time, a downtime between games can be as much as 5 to 10 minutes, which drastically increases the time to get these optimal numbers.
Personally, never use shrine of secrets unless you really don't want to spend any $ on licensed killers/survivors but want their perks instead. N
Otherwise use shards to unlock characters or skins, don't bother with the shrine, it is stupidly overpriced for the time you need to spend on grinding shards. Unlocking characters via shards not only gets you access to their perks later on but also increases the content of your game by making them playable.

As others have said, grinding the BPs to bring Billy to Level 40 will probably be faster than playing to get those Shards. At least, if you have a Killer with BBQ. Even if you never plan to play Hillbilly, getting his Perks for the Killers you would like to play is always an option.
When it comes to Iridescent Shards, you have to play as much as possible. Playing Killer should be better, since you secure to be in the match for the full duration of it, as Survivor you can die really early and will not get much Iridescent Shards.
Also make sure to play both roles on each day, since this provides you 300 Bonus Shards for the first game played as Survivor/Killer.

Also, if you level up as smart as possible, consuming only cheapest stuff and let entity eat bigger brunches, you may hit level 40 for 1 million of bloodpoints. My personal record is 39, but I guess I could do better. It is not a problem to play another couple of matches to get required levels. And you actually don't need all 50 levels to get tinkerer. 40 levels is enough.
