MMR has been disabled for a while now.

Skill-based matchmaking is not turned on and hasn't been for a long while. Right now, matchmaking starts off by trying to put players of similar rank together, but if the queues are long then it just starts putting anyone together. So, depending on the time of day, your region, how many players there are, etc. matchmaking may be basically nonexistent. It is not uncommon to see red ranks in the same lobby as a rank 17. It sucks for everyone.

Oh, I just thought that since there was a ranking system, it had skill based matchmaking.

It hasn't been skill based in quite some time. You will frequently see rainbow ranks. It doesn't mean much rank hardly matters. It's easier to pip or safety pip than depip.

Yeah I noticed I have been getting into matches with alot lower ranks.

Even with MMR active... the same thing happened
Which is why they locked killer switching... so they get a fairer reading on player skill across multiple killers

I thought they added immunity to grey ranks? As in greys can only play with greys.

I think that used to be a thing, but that's definitely not a current restriction.

Honestly, it's amazing how remarkably tolerant folks are. If most games did this, it would just be the end, done, over, that would be a game killer to just delete the main thing that keeps games fair.
I mean character nerfs? Buffs? Map changes? bloodlust? None of it matters basically, if the actual matches are not fair to begin with, any and all data would be skewed, so just as a whole it's all botched.
