I was playing Hag with the Rusty Shackles addon for a week. It was a very enjoyable experience with trapping gens and grabbins survivors. No need to run around loops and waste so much time. It's nice to have Hag with such gameplay in case you become tired of repetitive chases.

I mean, I mainly agree with you. I really dislike Hag's playstyle. It's just not my thing. Trapper to an extent, but at least he's 115%.

    Annoying no, stressful? yes.

After playing hag for a long time even if they are destroying my traps i have become numb to getting annoyed instead i use the info the phantom hags provide to predict their next location, it also helps to think of it as they went out of their way to destroy my traps instead of doing a gen and i can replace those traps faster then they destroyed them. if your missing hits after TP'ing you need to think of your trap placement, reactions, and situation after you tp.

What made me play less hag is the stress of early game and managing late game as it is not uncommon for 2-3 gens to get down before or right after you set up your web of traps and you have to play really smart and not waste time to put on enough pressure so your last gens don't get done. Most games end with you draining their resources and reserved strength (health states) and it leads to them having to retreat or get downed quickly in your web but when they do that you have time to reset whatever you want and it continues until you win. The other way is simply snowballing so hard they can't recover, hag has the best snowball potential in the game right next to oni or nurse with infectious fright but she can do it easier because of the nature of her power.

anyway yeah if your not used to hag i can understand being annoyed by her but good hags try to use whatever happens to get info as they plan their next move which is usually to set up traps along their next patrol path.

I main Hag she is a beast.

To many traps to close together will let survivors tear through them all, you need a couple out in good places at the start, a few random and then use the rest aggressively to shut down loops.

I will typically take a port over continuing a chase it's usually a free hit and you pop into another chase, losing no pressure. Also pressures the survivor who's plan is to just run through all your traps and pop them while you are busy elsewhere. If they are saying "hey come kill me" I'm happy to oblige.

Offset traps near windows as it turns survivor's camera and often screws up fast vaults for players who aren't prepared for it.

Play her without addons and get a feel for teleport distance then when you run addons it'll feel like easy cheese.

Just drop a trap before you pick up and only one trap to proxy camp a hook more than that is overkill. Best bet is to hook in an area where you have traps already It'll get em every time because they won't see you set any near the hook.

Also you main nurse, hats off to you I'll never touch her again hehe absolutely hate her playstyle.

Finally a discussion where I feel home.

Yes she's annoying. Yes she's boring. Yes she should be deleted from the game.

I tried to play Hag more often to see if I would find her more enjoyable after gaining experience with her...

...and I came to the conclusion that Hag is a drag. I'm honestly kinda glad that her tome is over and done with so that I have no reason to use her again.

She was very much not my cup o' tea, so I went back to using the majority of other killers who I do enjoy playing.

    No.

I do my best not to "main," killers, I play with a lot of variety, but Hag was the first killer I got to level 50. Here's why she's fun to play.

    1. Her add-ons are extremely game changing. They can completely change her playstyle without crippling her.

    2. Her perks are pretty fun and lead to some crazy builds. Ruin/Undying is a boring combo, but if you don't entirely rely on Ruin as your best perks it can be really great. Devour Hope is amazingly fun, denies the Survivors the ability to call you a camper, and can really mess up a survivors day. Third Seal isn't super useful but it can be funny to watch Survivors with aura-heavy builds try to counter it.

    3. Her ability is amazing. She's a simultaneously a 110 killer and more mobile than most 115s. Not only can she straight-up deny loops, it's hilarious watching them panic after vaulting a pallet straight into a trap. She's one of the only killers who can benefit from not breaking pallets. Not to mention her ability just gives her great map knowledge.

    4. Regardless of what some annoying survivors say, she has solid counterplay. If she's carrying a Survivor, or if you know that she's across the map from you, run through trapped areas. You can destroy a lot of her setup. Or, just use flashlights or crouch.

    Chechia Member Posts: 234

True. If you play against survivors who are actively setting off all of your traps, you need to have a ton of patience and reconsider your trap placement.

But still, she is a hell lot of fun, mainly because she is very strong and doesn't really need gen slowdown perks.

Nah, I love Hag, personally. She’s my “de-stress” killer. If I’ve had a couple of bad games as M1 killers and want to break a bad streak, I switch to her and can steamroll most teams with relative ease.

That said I used to main her for quite a few hours so I know her power pretty well. She is annoying to learn though. Everything feels slow and gens pop fast which can feel stressful, and you have to fight the urge to go on long chases or engage survivors that try to distract you. You just have to play the long game and things fall into place eventually.

  • CashelP14
    CashelP14 Member Posts: 5,564

Ok here's why I despise her:

    1. Add-ons are horrible to face. Rusty shackles removes any information you get from looping. Mint Rag is an easy Make Your Choice distance camping tool.
    2. Her counterplay is basically having 1 item or using urban evasion (a perk I hate). I don't think a killer should be really easy to counter with items and perks but pretty much impossible otherwise. You running around to disable traps only works if she's on the opposite side of the map and you know where the traps are. Though she usually guards one half anyway so this doesn't normally matter.
    3. Camping ability is extremely strong. She sets 10 traps around the area and proxy camps and it's an easy kill.
    4. Camera turning towards her when a trap is triggered. This helps massively with her camping since it can cancel unhook attempts.
    5. Crouching I find boring. Crouching around the whole map incase you walk into a trap is just boring and frustrating. With the grass and the dark maps it's very difficult to see her traps.
    6. Scroll wheel Hag. People who have faced a scroll wheel Hag know exactly what I'm talking about.

Btw I want to keep her perks. The perks shouldn't be removed with her.

As a Hag main, it's all about placing her traps and knowing when to use them in chases and whatnot.

I have mad respect for Nurse mains though, I played her enough to get semi competent and she still frustrates the hell out of me.

Hag is the most fun to play killer since you have to use strategy and not just chase survivors like a headless chicken. She is easy to learn and master also.

i love playing hag, she can do way more than camping. i just use one trap to force a slower unhook.

when you prep well, you get rewarded with downs in 5 sec.

and most survivors dont really know how to play against her...since hags are rare and most of them just camp or do a daily.

since the trigger radius is bigger then her lunge radius you can destroy her traps somehow save. just dont allow her to set up a web and force her into chases in unprepared areas. at least one person should keep doing this and constantly destroy traps.

while she is carrying someone, the other survivors can destroy everything save.

you can feel very helpless as hag, if the survivors know that.

and avoid the basement like the plague.

    my standard build is usually:

no addons, pop, corrupt, save the best for last and dark devotion. works for me but perks like make your choice, sloppy, monitor and totem builds work aswell.

i dont recommend information perks like discordance or bbq... the hag is too slow to react to those perks and your traps work as radar too and you can instantly react to them, if you dont spread out your traps too much. if your early game was bad, i recommend a web around the last 3-4 gens. a 3gen scenario is hell against her.

a good feeling for (not too obvious) trap placements and if survivor dont harass your web, its gg ez even when you play nice and fair.

but like the trapper she is not for everyone. i just really really enjoy trapping and getting rewarded for good placement.

Interesting, I dislike running Corrupt Intervention on Hag. I let them pop a gen or two far away while I make sure anyone who invades my territory is sure to die.

  • SaltyRainbow
    SaltyRainbow Member Posts: 87

i really like it. i can place traps around the loops near the unblocked gens and set up a web without 1-2 gens popping in the distance.

if i play right i get 2-3 down before the finished the gen or i can pressure them into a point were they are busy with damage control and no one is working on a gen. than i can lower pressure a bit if the survivors are nice.

of course only if i play well...sometimes my traps just dont work and the gens are flying^^

    how are u playing hag?

The loud whispering is distracting as well, especially when sound is very important as killer.

  • JustHeretoHaveFun
    JustHeretoHaveFun Member Posts: 86

I look at what gens would be effected by Corrupt Purge, assume the Survivors would be around there, and weave my web on a certain area. The reason I don't run Corrupt is because they're usually pushed into my territory before I'm ready. It's sort of like map info without a perk. A gen or two will pop but I'm likely given all the time I need to set up traps without any interruptions. Losing 1 gen means nothing if you have 4 that are untouchable.

You have to be really careful with this strategy though. You absolutely can't overcommit, or else all your hard work is erased instantly. You've got to make sure you have a strong 3 gen, and you have to constantly replace any traps that were triggered.

Granted, I'm only green ranked, I'm sure strats like this get destroyed in higher ranks and yours work much better.

  • JHondo
    JHondo Member Posts: 1,174

I don't like corrupt on her or trapper because it gives less setup time as it forces Survivors closer to you early game. With Hag especially you want to avoid chases and set up in pathways and loops to get faster downs. Yeah I use her traps in chases but would much rather lock down jungle gyms and other strong structures first so I don't have to rely on chase traps only.

  • XombieRocker
    XombieRocker Member Posts: 324

Hag is my favorite to play because she completely negates loops and jungle gyms.

Looping is my least favorite part of playing killer and I'm terrible at all the Killers who lack anti-looping powers.

It's way more fun to NOT run around a pallet 3 times, break it, and then do it over and over as there are so many pallets.

  • DaKnight
    DaKnight Member Posts: 720

I think corrupt intervention is actually her best perk. Second best is probably sloppy butcher. Third monitor + abuse. I switch up the 4th perk a lot but I almost never take off those 3.

Just conceding all the gens across the map is crippling, because then you are 100% banking on your 3 gen strat. With Corrupt you usually only lose 1 gen or 0 while you get your entire network down instead of 2-3, and forcing people into the web early is a good thing since you can start getting the sloppy butcher hits in.

I pretty much always use faster setting + extended teleportation range; or I do silent traps + extended teleporting range. The faster trap setting is amazing for quickly getting a bunch of traps out, and helps mid-chase. It's easy to lock down the first 3 gens then start harassing people at the 4th which survivors will probably be working on.

  • JHondo
    JHondo Member Posts: 1,174

When playing Hag the only time I worry about gens is if they're all done and I need to focus on gates. My games usually don't get to the point I need to even consider a three gen strat though.

As a red rank Hag main my build is, Franklin's, Third Seal, BBQ, and Monitor. Franklin's will sometimes be a wasted slot but she doesn't even need perks imo. Third Seal is amazingly effective, BBQ for the BPs and occasionally to help me find the last person when I'm running low on active traps, Franklin's to help avoid the flashlights cucking her power, and Monitor because it gives her a tiny tiny radius. For add-ons I use teleport distance and setting speed add-ons. Distance so I can make a bigger "web" aka trap jungle gyms and paths as opposed to playing gen defense Hag. Setting speed so I can use them a little more effectively when I do wind up in chases.

When trapping I never bother with gens unless they happen to be in the jungle gym or shack I'm locking down. I trap gyms, strong windows, strong structures, and common paths Survivors run. I usually try to save a trap or two for those times I'm forced to chase and have to lock down a loop to zone them back to where I've placed things already.

I do respect everyone has their own play style and preferred perks but I've noticed the more I use Corrupt with my play style the more garbage it is for me on Hag because it throws me into chases faster which is good for Oni, Pig, and other killers that need those first hits or downs quickly to get better use of their power but the way I play Hag I need to set up without them knowing which loops/paths I'm trapping.

I also play on PC with a controller so spamming my teleport button is just as effective as scroll wheel Hag on M+Kb.

I meant with Rusty Shackles lol

Mint Rag has a cooldown but that means nothing. It has a 15 second cooldown. You take about 5 seconds to down and hook, 2 to set the trap and a few more to run away. Combining it with STBFL makes it even worse.

Hag forces you into a very specific campy playstyle. If you don't play in that way you lose, it's as simple as that. The Twins are the same once people start to learn more about them. I suspect a lot of Hag players will enjoy the Twins' playstyle.

Not sure about annoying but Hag is probably the most boring killer for me to play personally. Nurse annoys me the most but that's because my camera getting slammed to the floor so much gives me an actual headache. Then throw on the drunk bob she does for extra measure.

  • MrDardon

I'd not say that she is the most annoying to play, but she is definitely the most boring Killer to play for most people. Mine would be Freddy, I'd rather play Hag all day long than Freddy. Hag at least requires active brain cells.

But she is pretty much the only Killer who can't actively chase Survivors, and this game focuses on chases. Chases are the main part of Dbd and this Killer can't chase at all because she is to slow and her core design is about putting a web down to lure Survivors into it. People might say that Trapper is the excact same, but Trapper at least moves at full speed, which means that he can chase normally. It's not his playstyle, he needs to be played like Hag in order to be effective, but you can at least chase with him, even if it's not a good idea at all. But with Hag you will straight up lose games if you chase with her normally, unless you really play against a full potato squad.

to be honest all you have to do is spam CTRL for the whole game after placing your dirty traps in the shack and in front of pallets

you get free hits as soon as they walk past them. After that you can just continue to chase normally (always spamming CTRL) and get free hits basically... I get several quads that way

  • AChaoticKiller
    AChaoticKiller Member Posts: 3,104

If you mean camping an area of around half the map yes but if a hag is just camping hooks and not placing traps to down survivors before they leave your area that hag player is a bad one. Her power by nature is camping since once a trap is activated she is in two places at once similar to the twins however she is stronger due to being there to punish survivors directly and that's something the twins have trouble with since victor has trouble going against multiple survivors together and charlotte because she has to be far from hooks and has to recover from her "sleep" state unless at basement in which case hag is a stronger basement camper.

Good hags set up so they can commit to a chase in your web of traps and if survivors go beyond it you drop the chase. it results in you hitting them in your web with either a default m1 or after they trigger your trap then they have to make it to a area your not trapping and predicting that ahead of time and setting up a trap there or in that direction is what good hags do.

As a hag main i don't like the twins play style for a few reasons. first there is less strategy and planning involved which is one of the things that makes hag fun to play, the second is there is too much counter play with the twins, and the last reason is because charlotte is frustrating to play when a survivor doesn't take victor off or you just chasing with her since she basically doesn't have a power and switching to victor isn't always the best thing to do.

I dont like corrupt on her bc it pushes the survivors towards you, meaning they'll set off traps before you finish your set up, wasting your time. I've found that you lose MORE gens with corrupt because of this.

  • AChaoticKiller
    AChaoticKiller Member Posts: 3,104

I mean if the trap isn't set correctly/before hand and the hag is dumb enough to chase you to a loop she can't mindgame or position herself to set a trap while blocking off the next closest loop yeah i guess she is loopable.

i actually commit to chase's more so than i should but thats why i run trap setting speed addons so i can set up as i chase and with proper positioning the survivor is forced to abandon the loop and likely get hit if i push them toward my other traps, even if i like to commit to chases no hag should go too far from her web of traps.

I've played around with MYC but I do the instant teleport hits so I usually don't get a lot of value from it whereas Monitor helps me get the drop on em and I'm totally addicted to it. When I don't know what to put on for the 4th perk for most killers I usually just throw on Monitor unless I'm using a large TR build or playing as Doc lol
