Error 4 and What It Means

My friend and I have started playing Dead by Daylight relatively regularly lately since our schedules have lined up. However, he and a few other of my friends have run into a prompt alerting them about an error 4. I've done a little research and to my best knowledge it's an anti cheating thing. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff so bare with me. Here's why I think it's strange, my friends are new players and have only a few hours dedicated to the game. They don't really care about the game to the point where they'd get some cheating software to sabotage the game somehow. Any thoughts or other instances of this happening would be great to hear, and if there are any easy fixes please let me know!
