Why make people go through the trouble of trying to get a charm code from a streamer...

and then just release the code for everyone anyway?

stuff like that I usually assume is meant more for bringing back old players and grabbing a few new ones, since a stream is the best way to reach them if they're not active on a game. Other games sometimes do the same thing for that reason. Plus the extra viewer jumps at those times they hope makes talk around the game seem more active and people seem more interested ina game, which goes back to hoping to grab new players on games. The higher the view count the more interesting a game or stream seems to people on the outside.

Yeah good point. I think charms are basically just a thing to keep players engaged. They don't put them in the store because they know no one will buy them, so they do these limited time/stock codes and people come to get them.

When it's a non impacting item like a 'cosmetic' that's overall a healthy way to generate interest in a game or get people to feel it's worth returning even if just briefly. I don't think the streamers have as big an impact on the popularity of this game compared to others though especially compared to some shooters. There just hasn't been any successful games (friday the 13th would have been if not for the dumb lawsuits going on with anything using jason) witht his style of gameplay to compete with dbd so far is why people still play it (kinda like there isn't much like left 4 dead besides world war z and vermintide neither of which scratched my versus itch so I still prefer left 4 dead at least until back 4 blood if it's as good).
