Self Unhook When Someone Coming To Get You
I have been seeing this a lot lately in my gameplays as a solo queue player and frankly it annoys me.
I ran into another one who tried to unhook themselves when I was near them(they were no where near second phase) so I decided to leave them on the hook for that and find a gen to work on. There was another person coming for the rescue but said person just decided to try more unhook and forced themselves into the struggle phase.
Is it considered toxic of me to have left the person there on the hook? They decided to respond by blowing up any gens I was working on.
Edit: Obviously this doesn’t apply to certain situations. Like having deliverance, or being farmed so you just want to end the game quickly or about to enter struggle phase.

Well, that person obviously didn't like it so, regardless of what anyone here says, they perceived it as toxic. Being solo, it's impossible for them to know what your intentions were by leaving them, or for you to know what their intentions were when attempting to unhook themselves. Context is everything - maybe they didn't see you? Maybe they were new? Even if clearly not a "new" person rank, maybe the account was being played by someone new? Who knows, many possibilities...

I wouldn't call it toxic. But it's petty and game throwing.
As always though, play the way you like.

If I get the sense that other Survivors are going to try and farm me with unsafe unhooks while the killer is near then I'm doing my absolute best to leave that match as quickly as possible via hook suicide before they get the chance.

I do it all the time lol. And if they do succeed I won't help them in any way for the rest of the game

Half the board thinks it's rude as F to try to unhook yourself when a teammate ran all that way to them and thinks the other half are being selfish A-holes
Half the board thinks it's perfectly fine to attempt to unhook yourself from the hook and that the other half is taking it way too seriously and it's funny so quit your whining
So flip a coin to determine what you should do :D

The one action I hate is when someone lets go of the struggle when I'm coming for them and the killer is nowhere around. It's also very obvious I'm coming to save them.

Just because they try to unhook themselves? That is messed up... lol

I play with my swf and i do it all the time. They find it funny af when they come all the way over and i just kobe off the hook.

I think it's funny as well. Some people just need to chill. <.<

Ah another one of you people.
Y'all take this game too seriously to be offended by something as simple as someone pulling off a Kobe in front of you.

If I’m on the hook and I have deliverance activated I am of the opinion “use it or lose it”. I also think it is perfectly fair to do if the person is attempting an unsafe hook on you. I hate it intensely when people drop what they’re doing and rush to save me on my first hook. As far as people trying to pull themselves off as I’m coming to their rescue I don’t take offense to it because I know there is a trophy to earn for that.

It’s petty is what it is.

They think its funny to try to Kobe right in my face.
I think its funny when i just leave them on the hook and go back to the gen.
Win Win - Everybody is having fun :3

Some of y'all sound like killers disguised as survivors

see there is a difference between playing with friends and with solo's. With friends i wouldn't mind at all. all a good laugh. Kinda like throwing a pallet in front of your friends face would also be funny. Not with a complete stranger though
When you die on your first hook because you didn't get your deliverance active because someone decided to kobe in your face it's less funny for them. Or when someone you were healing dies cause you didn't get your We'll make it. Not to mention you lose 1500+25% of whatever you earned with We will live forever. Or the several challenges that require you to unhook safely for the rift that is on a timelimit that many agree is very grindy already even if things are going your way.
It's kind of like dark jokes. among friends you can tell dark jokes all you want. Only a sociopath tells dark jokes to a complete stranger though.
Now I wouldn't throw a game by leaving them hanging . But it's still rude af and i can totally understand why some people would.

Honestly people should only attempt to kobe if it's needed, such as everyone being slugged. If someone has come all the way for an unhook and then someone kobes in their face it's a waste of time.

If someone manages to unhook themsleves, whatever. You don't get the benefit of my perks and you've only hurt yourself. Other than that, I don't really care except for when some absolute genius tries it when the killer is nearby and the unhook is urgent. Double congrats if you manages to Kobe, you absolute muffin that now doesn't have BT.

I mean thats the difference as well. Even with randoms i still would. I play to enjoy my time. How ever i see fit. Sure that makes me "selfish" but as i see it, its a game with a rank system that has no benefit, nothing. I have to amuse myself some how. Strangers dont care if i have fun. Neither does the killer. Plus good portion of the time randos are farming me off the hook with no bt with a killer behind them. Why shouldnt i meme a bit instead of getting salty?

Thanks everyone for your responses! I’m actually kinda surprised that there seems to be a balanced mixed opinions on this matter.
I will take the advice and just do me, after all, I should be enjoying the game I’m playing!

I mean fair enough. But then you can't complain when they find it funny to leave you hanging.

Honestly... this rings pretty true for me

Please not this kind of discussion again ._.
Where are my delete DS,keys,Spirit,Noed etc. threads?

I generally dont. I just move on to next match or play on my phone while i wait. Multitasking. Seriously i may have a problem.

They are probably waiting for next year so they can be the first discussion of the year lol
I mean I find it funny If someone pulls it off. It's not like 1.5k bp is the big deal
As long as they are helping towards the objective, they are getting saved :>

Same on the phone stuff though. There just isn't much else to do on a hook and it certainly beats watching your teammates fumble around.
Also if you play dbd mobile you can get facecamped while getting facecamped

There's an achievement for self-unhooks, plus it's always a happy accident when it happens.
I always try if I'm not going to put myself into struggle phase. It happens rarely, but it's cool when it does.
Sure, the would-be unhooker doesn't get the altruism points, which sucks for them, but they're still very welcome to heal.
