Why is this game even rated M?
After playing it for a few years even with long breaks, I have ask this question.
The worst you see is a splash of blood when you get hit and moried. There are no visual consequences for any action moris included.
you get a hook through the shoulder, no blood it's just a visual. and I'm not counting the blood on the screen.
Examples.
- The reverse bare traps don't rip your jaw open, just a splash of blood and you're dead
- Freddy impales you through the back, no visible damage.
- the demogorgan apparently eats your head and spits it out, but you still have a head.
- Leatherface and the hillbilly kill you with a chainsaw, no damage to the body.
This is beside the point but also some people play this game like a bunch of 10 year olds. We have to do the most annoying things possible because we think it's hilarious. I've played on and against teams that do that.
I'm not expecting Mortal Kombat levels of gore for things, that's over the top as it is. The swearing doesn't count either, the only survivor that talks is Ash and the worst he says is #########.

The gore is very mild, agreed, but there are exceptions. Deathslinger Mori, for exmple, is quite grueseome, same with Clown, Myers and Oni.
There are many references to severe acts of violence in descriptions etc.
Also, the intense sexual components of DBD might have contributed to the M rating.

The swearing does count. To an extent.
There’s blood, murder, executions, abuse in the past of some killers, one killer that regurgitates at will. You can leave survivors to die, you can choose to kill, or be a survivor running away from a murderer. For a game that can be silly at times, there’s also a lot of triggering points in this game.
That being said, I do agree with you that there should be a bit more uh, detail.
14 -
I agree but with how buggy the game is/ how old, creating those kind of gory visuals will be difficult especially with the coding. That doesn't mean it isn't welcomed
1 -
Oh yeah I forgot about the archives they don't pull punches in there. I read Hillbilly's story.
Sexual components? the most that could be is suggestive themes. an outfit that shows a midriff really isn't that bad. this isn't the 1960s.
4 -
If you think this game is suitable for anyone younger than teenagers, then you seriously need to see a shrink.
...and stay away from sharp objects.
2 -
Lol it’s not that bad. Lol.
1 -
Blood, death, themes of death and sacrifice, references to alcohol and drugs, gore, and a lot of characters from horror franchises.
I mean the game is literally about murdering people.
Clown cuts your finger off and suckles on it I mean they did as much as they could do without getting the game banned in some regions haha.
2 -
I didn't say that, please don't put words in my mouth, there is a rating of T. just because I didn't mention it doesn't mean I don't know it's there.
5 -
Is no one gonna mention Hag's mori? Huntress' is brutal as well. The whole point if this game is to literally murder people and they are screaming for their life the majority of the match. Plenty of people would say that it too intense for a 13, 14 or 15 year old.
3 -
Fair argument, we all know that people under age of 15 play this all the time. heck even 13
1 -
Agreed.
The themes matter more than the visual representation.

DBD contains lots of sexual connotations.
It´s a game of chase and desire, obsession, submission and dominance, tease and denial. Survivors often sound like they enjoy getting hit, picked up and hooked way too much, most prominent examples being Jane, Feng and Adam.
We have moved away from classic slasher Survivor outfits and got a wide variety of silly, goofy, sexy and cute outfits to make the characters more visually appealing.
It´s no coincidence that this community is the thirstiest of them all, no matter if they´re straight, gay or other.
1 -
All for post game chat. Being given death threats for playing spirit certainly isnt rated E for everyone.
1 -
Everything has sexual connotations if you look for five minutes. Nothing in DbD feels like it qualifies as anything special.
3 -
I'm guessing their excuse will be game limitations. Even though they decide how much they're limited.

Rated T for Teen.
8 -
sexual?

It´s no coincidence that this community is the thirstiest of them all
That's a fat nope from me there lol
You see so many thirsty people in pretty much every community.Even in things like My Little Pony :]

Several Moris are gruesome, you play as several iconic horror characters and the game's themes are pretty violent. You're literally going around and murdering people because a big spider in the sky tells you to.

I would say that Bubba's is the most traumatizing for me. I can't watch it without getting a chill down my spine.
1 -
Naked Hag.
1 -
There is, as a matter of fact, one entire exposed dohoonkabhankoloo in this videogame. So nudity's in there.
Clown cuts off a finger for his mori, so that's dismemberment.
There's.. moris in general, plus Deathslinger's weird imageboard tag of a mori, so there's that.

There are definite limits across which the game would be banned in some countries, and we don't want that. The amount of detail in the game is carefully controlled to keep us from being illegal in those markets.
9 -
Tbh I already think I know the answer, but someone is going to ask so I'll just go ahead with it:
"Why not just have an option then, that is only available to people in countries where it's not an issue. Things like visual elements and such that are not too connected with gameplay; like how some games have gore/blood sliders in their options menus"
2 -
Our opinion is that development time spent supporting such a feature would be better spent elsewhere.
5 -
Demogorgon ought to be ripping heads off, not just chew on them
1 -
I had a bug once where Demo's mori removed Nea's hair....that was pretty horrifying.
5 -
Is the game visually M? I don't think so personally, but the whole premise is M. I suppose that all shooters should be mature, but then we have games like Splatoon which is for everybody and they use sniping weapons and bombs. But they respawn because they were splatted and not killed.
If this were a simple hide & seek game (which was the original design) it wouldn't be exciting, but the idea of hunting, hooking and killing others pushes it to the edge regardless of visual aspects.

You’re glossing over it if you say something like that. There’s a difference between making something sexual (“that’s what she said uh derrr”) and underlying sexual themes, such as S&M.
0 -
None of which are actually in DbD.
That point of view has to accept that everything turns someone on or else it's extremely hypocritical. What exactly about DbD is sexual? What did the Devs put in to turn people on? Anything? Or is it just a byproduct, a side effect of the fact that humans are inherently horny as #########? That people try to draw similarities to completely different situations?
I gloss over nothing. Its just arrogant to pretend anything other than original intent is important, whether that intent is open and understood or closeted behind layers of "you're just not adult enough."
1 -
There sometimes comes a point where even if you're technically right, you really shouldn't be arguing your point. Whether you want more gratuitious blood or you want the game available to a younger audience, either way, it doesn't make ya look good. I really hope people play this game for more than just the desire to see people getting murdered.
1 -
I commented earlier but I guess I see why its M rated. I keep forgetting games are held to a weird rating standard based on peoples tastes. Plus as some people have said, even if they arent that graphic, we are moriing people

Maybe actually start spending that time elsewhere? A lot of things are ignored so you guys can have time to work on other things, but nothing ever happens besides a chapter every 3 months. Live balance takes 6 months for a single perk, that's laughable. The internal pipelines clearly need to be optimized.
MMR? still disabled, was supposed to be ready 6 months ago after God knows how long in development.
Hit validation? still doesn't work right and does next to nothing, disabled multiple times after God knows how long in development.
Disconnect penalty? disabled countless times after God knows how long in development because of the same exploit where people could get others banned.
Movement extrapolation? disabled, tested once 1.5 years ago in ptb and nothing ever since.
Bloodlust experiment? yet another one of these things where it kinda happened and then we don't hear more about it for 2 years.
Events? Gone.
Something clearly isn't working with the way things get prioritized/worked on if you guys can't manage to release one single big feature which works correctly in 4 years or release constant, meaningful live balance changes(no, 4 perks every 6 months when we have like 150 in the game doesn't quite cut it).

considering the core concept of the game is killing people i think this obvious xD

Easiest answer is parents groups - they are why the rating system exists in the first place. The rating is pretty much a "this game contains these elements that parents find too extreme for anyone under 17". Giving a game an M rating means parents groups have a harder time getting the game banned or having it remove certain elements because they think whatever is in the game is too extreme for children. M means kids shouldn't be playing it and the vendor they bought it from should've only sold it to an adult. If parent/guardian thinks their kid is OK to play it that is their choice. Similar to how a movie theater will deny a kid from entering an R rated moved unless they are with a parent/guardian.
Parents groups usually get a better argument if the M rated game (or R rated movie) has elements that make it look like it is targeting kids - why there are bigger uproars when an M game or R rated movie that is more cartoony is released, or how Adult Swim is constantly being attacked because it's cartoons on cartoon network because originally the station was targeted towards kids.
Can argue all day whether or not something is/isn't OK for kids. There are plenty of parents groups find FNAF OK for kids but those who are older fans will argue it isn't OK for kids. There are plenty of parents groups that argue Harry Potter is not OK for kids. DBD there are many who think it is not OK for kids and M rating is correct and then there are ones who think it's fine for 8 year olds to play because they don't think it's that violent compared to other games that are not rated M.

Cant you do that in countries that allow it you can have the feature to allow see decapitation/gore/ect.& dont allow it in countries that dont let you.(Fortnite does that with china)
0 -
First fair argument, Like I said I didn't desire Mortal Kombat Levels of gore. people seem to be missing that point and going right for, "oh you want kids to play it?" no. Also with graphics you're using the things you'd have to add to this game for it to be illegal in some markets is far more then what I was suggesting.
Secondly I have to say this; If you feel that development time is better spent elsewhere please start doing it. Spending more time on the actual game structure would be great.
- fixing even the weird bugs. like how the PS5 version doesn't remember anything outside the first 6 survivors and killers. Killer/survivor last used, cosmetics and even daily rituals. If they they they don't involve the first 6 characters on either side or aren't the general ones that everyone can get, the game acts like they were never there. (yes I have submitted a bug report)
- Delivering on things you promised years ago, like this fabled MMR that I keep hearing about that that's never ready, or the game warm up idea, I'm really curious about that one.
- Spending less time on cosmetics. I'd say a lot of development time would be better spent elsewhere
- Making events and the rift actually enjoyable. some of the challenges are a lot of work for how little you get and encourage poor gameplay,
- Quit treating this like a free to play game when it isn't free, making things annoying to encourage people to spend real money on fake money screams mobile game and you've got one of those. keep it there.
It's hard to tell with text but I'm not trying to argue with you I'm just discussing things. It's your game not mine and this is just my opinion.

Bruh... Are you okay? Nothing you said is even close to right.

I don’t have time to educate you on the basic drives of humans and how things they say, the work they do, displays underlying unconscious wishes and desires. Nor do I have time to ask how a high mini skirt in the game, or a shirt made to display most of a woman’s large breasts, is sexual.
Example for further research: read up on the unconscious death drive.
You’re saying “person X said they did Y because of Z, so that’s that.” That’s a very basic way of examining something
0 -
Please, do try. It amuses me to see people pretending that everything and anything isn't a fetish for someone and that what is mainstream is somehow more important because it's nice to ignore minorities.

you forgot that the hags mori leaves a mark on the body’s of there guts hanging out and the legions kill looks like something that rl psychopaths might do to people and there story even depicts them as ordinary teens who decided to terrorise a town for fun because of boredom then they stab a guy to death and tried to hide the body.
as I said that sounds like stuff that could happen irl and that’s more horrifying then the entity’s world as it seems real.
plus sexual elements for anyone seeing this read the hags backstory i mean taken by cannibals eaten alive slowly while chained to a wall to the point she becomes a animal who knows what else they did to her think on that
