Killer Idea: The Vampire

Hey, y'all!

I originally wanted to send my suggestions directly to the artistic team of the game, but it appears they are not willing to accept any suggestion, even if we're not asking for anything in return, sadly. So I thought, hey, this section might do; after all, it's also nice to have feedbacks from fellow players.

Few notes before I get started: English is not my first language, so please be gentle enough to forgive me should some mistakes remain. Also, I am not a professionnal player, which means the perks/powers I will be suggesting here are only suggestions and would most likely benefit from some changes/modifications in order to be more balanced, I do know that. Finally, I do not pretend my ideas are innovative or extremely interesting, and I am sure a few people have already suggested a similar killer; this is just my rendition of it. I basically wondered : "Hey, what type of new killers would I personnally like to see added?", and this is one of them.

Without further ado, this is my second suggestion for a new killer: The Vampire.

Name: Alaric Ardeal

Nationality: Romanian

Speed: 4.6 m/s (115%)

Terror radius: 32m

Height: Tall

Weapon: Vampiric dagger

Design:

Think Demitri Maximoff, but with a darker, more « realistic » design, along with a grimmer face. Overall, the entire vampire panoply : the pale skin, the elegant clothes, the long cloak, the fangs, a tall and quite muscular body, and a dark aura surrounding him.

Realm: Abandonned Ardeal Castle

An old gothic castle, both beautiful and scary. Spiders and bats may come and say hi in pretty much every room.

POWER AND SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Ancestral portal

Press the active ability button to open a portal on the ground in front of you. (similar to what the Demogorgon does)

Blood fetchers

Press and hold the power button to send bats attack a nearby survivor. If the survivor was at full health, the bats will latch on, making the survivor afflicted with the broken, oblivious and incapacitated effects. They will be unable to enter lockers or leave through the exit gate. The survivor can get rid of the bats by completing the remove action, although he will be injured. If the survivor was already injured, he will be put into the dying state. (similar to what Victor does, except the player cannot control the bats – he can only aim at a survivor and send them to do the job)

Blood thirst

Similar to Myers’ Evil Within, Blood thirst works in three tiers. Everytime a survivor gets rid of the bats attacking them by completing the remove action, The Vampire is fed, and Blood Thirst ups to its next tier.

Blood thirst II: Slightly increased movement speed. Basic attack has a slightly increased lunge. Blood Thirst II lasts for 60 seconds, after which, it regresses to Blood Thirst I.

Blood thirst III: When triggered, allows the Vampire to teleport though any Ancestral portal he’s previously opened on the map. Basic attacks to healthy survivor will inflict the deep wound status effect.

PERKS

Blood lust

You like your victims bleeding. For every survivor suffering from the deep wound status effect, their mending time is XX/XX/XX% slower.

Kiss of death

There’s nothing you hate more than bright light. Anytime a survivor blinds you with a flashlight, their aura is shown to you for XX/XX/XX seconds. Any basic attack to said survivor during this time frame will inflict the deep wound and exhaustion statut effect for XX/XX/XX seconds.

Dead by dawn

Time is running out and you know it. When there’s only one last survivor remaining in the trial, you can see the aura of the hatch within a XX/XX/XX meter range.

MEMENTO MORI:

The Vampire grabs the survivor and bites them in the neck. The survivor then falls on the ground, moaning in pain, while the Vampire unleashes his bats. The Vampire laughs sadistically as the survivor is devoured alive by the bats.

BACKGROUND:

Not much is known about the supposed vampire that haunts the abandonned Ardeal castle.

Local elders will tell you about the aristocratic family that lived here up until the 15th century, and how one day they were all found dead, all having committed suicide, supposedly ending their bloodline. Others will tell you that, although abandonned, the gothic castle still belongs to secret descendants of the mysterious family, and that it explains why it has remained untouched for centuries. The younger ones will tell you about the mysterious noises and the shadowy figure they once saw when they foolishly ventured around the premises.

What had remained a local Transylvanian legend for decades soon attracted a wider attention when a fame-seeking investigative journalist published a podcast listing dozens of names of individuals who had gone missing in the region over the last century, never to be seen again. Locals, tourists, soldiers, … None of the missing persons had anything in common except for their last whereabouts. There had only been a few disappearances every decade, but the full list, going back to 1872, was quite impressive. Impressive enough for a group of Romanian daredevil teenagers to decide to explore the castle, armed with phones and cameras, to hopefully get the thrill of their lives, on a warm night June.

By dawn, all of them had disappeared. All except for one. Much to the locals’ surprise, one boy made it out alive. Police investigators soon faced the boy’s total silence, visibly shaken by whatever had happened to him and his missing friends. The sole survivor’s family soon noticed a dark turn in the boy’s behaviour, who still had not said one word about the incident, nor about the origin of the mysterious bite mark on his neck, which he had tried to cover up, not even allowing the hospital staff to check it out.

Local authorities organised a full search of the castle which ended up fruitless. The lead detective on the case, however, soon got his eye caught by a giant portrait, suspended in one of the castle’s biggest rooms, of a well-dressed man with a handsome but grim, slightly inhuman face. At the bottom of it, the name « Count Alaric Ardeal » could be read. A full night of paperwork investigation led the detective to the conclusion that no man with that name ever existed.

With no body found and no trace of the teenagers’ phones and cameras, the police were eager to finally interrogate the boy. When they came for him, though, they only found he had murdered his entire family before slicing his own throat, taking his secret to the grave. Reports of cannibalism soon emerged, along with wild theories about how the boy probably did the same thing to his friends days earlier.

The investigative journalist who first brought light to the Ardeal castle legend soon published another podcast following the tragic death of the boy’s family, encouraging his audience to favor credible and down-to-earth assumptions rather than spooky, wacky theories, out of respect for the teenagers’ families, and because none of the police officers who had participated in the search had gone missing. People were divided between believers and cartesians, but all were wondering how a group of people could simply vanish in one night. While scrolling down the comment section on his previous publication about the Ardeal castle, he soon got his attention caught by one particular comment, which had been posted only a few hours before the most recent tragedy occurred. The user’s name was the one of the boy who had recently made the Romanian news.

« He hunts at night… »

    This is so cool! I've been hoping for a vampire killer for a while now.

    I really like the idea. Plus, are u sure u aren’t English? Cuz u are just as good as me and I’m from the UK. 😂

    Btw, is there any chance you have watched Vampire Diaries? Cuz there’s a guy in that called Alaric, I’m not sure about the last name. 😂

    I feel as if the power should be tweaked to something that a vampire would actually do, as I just don’t think it fits well.

    Idea for a little (but pretty big) tweak to the power. When releasing the bats and they miss the survivor, press (whatever button it is) to quickly dash forward in a matter of a second to the location of the bats. Doing so will cause a cooldown of 30 seconds before releasing the bats again. (You cannot lunge straight away after dashing forward) This tweak idea means that if you miss a shot on a survivor when releasing the bats, you can quickly dash over to where the bats are and shorten the distance between you and the survivor.

    I hope u consider this idea. If u don’t then that’s fine, it’s your chapter and completely down to u if u use it. 😊👍🏻.

    Btw, I also make chapters, I have quite a lot ngl. If u could check one out and give feedback that would be amazing. If not, it’s fine. 👍🏻

    I just wanna talk about how situational, but how much I like these perks.

    Blood Lust should be renamed, since Bloodlust is a mechanic in DBD, but otherwise I love it. It'd only really work for the Legion and maybe Deathslinger, but damn would it work for Legion and Deathslinger.

    Kiss Of Death is a cool alternative to Lightborn, where both people get punished for a flashlight blind rather than neither. This one is cool, but Deep Wounds doesn't really work on a timer like exhaustion does. I know what you mean, but since Deep Wounds is at a universal timer of 20 seconds I think, it could be reworded a bit.

    Dead By Dawn is really cool. It's 100% dependent on how far the range of the aura reading is, though. I think the stats should be 8/12/16 meters, as the Killer can hear the hatch from 16 meters away, so it just helps find where in the area is once you hear it. Simple, but helpful.

    Dead by dawn is OP and Kiss of Death is redundant and overshadows lightborn.

    Besides that not bad, but I think the powers are overall too derivative of other killers.

    @kriemhild

    Thank you very much! This is also a killer I've been expecting.

    @LuluTheLion14

    Thank you for the positive feedback.

    Well, yes, as a French guy, I am quite sure, haha. But thank you, that is encouraging.

    To answer your question, no, I haven't watched that show. I came up the with name Alaric looking for Romanian names.

    Your idea of the vampire dashing forward to where his bats are is actually quite interesting! I did considered some similar teleportation stuff, but I got afraid it would make the killer a bit too powerful. But it surely is something to work upon!

    @Critical_Fish

    Once again (and I'm already liking you for that!), thanks a lot for your precise and positive feedback.

    Your suggestions to improve the perks are once again very helpful, and I am glad you overall enjoy the core idea of them all.

    And yeah, I knew the to-be-renamed Blood Lust would be a dream come true for Legion/Deathslinger mains, haha.

    @CaptainRaider

    I do get your point. This is only a first draft that could most likely use some rework to get better.

    Blood Fetchers has too many debuffs, you need to toss one. My recommendation is oblivious.

    What happens in Blood Thirst I? Nothing? Myers gets slowed but undetectable. How long does Blood Thirst III last?

    Does Blood Lust cause Deep Wounds or...? I also recommend contemplating on the time frame instead of filling in with X

    Kiss of Death isn't exactly helpful feedback wise without actual numbers

    Coming from someone who plays Survivor a lot (but not exclusively) Dead By Dawn is busted af. The hatch is noisy and unless your audio is turned down you won't really miss it. If you really want to know where the hatch is, I recommend forcing a spawn location with the blueprint offerings.
