Seeking advice from killer mains
This is an honest question to all killer mains out there. How do you justify playing as killers or using builds you hate to go against as a survivor? I don't play killer very much but whenever I do I always feel bad playing killers like that. I despise going against killers like legion and deathslinger with builds like ruin and undying, but find their gameplay really fun as a killer. As a survivor main I feel empathy for the survivors I play against and can almost feel the groans as I load in as legion or clown. So how do you guys deal with that feeling or what do you tell yourself to justify it, because I feel like i'm being contradictory when I do that.

Because half the games are full meta survivors, smack talking SWFs, 4-5 minute genrush games, item swapping survivors, or being sent to Haddo or something.
Survivors have complained when I played perkless wraith.
So who cares? It’s in the game, I’m using it.

Well... I refuse to run full meta builds and I think the killers I play are mechanically fair and balanced so I don't feel bad in any way whatsoever.

I don't. I just play with the perks I enjoy, all of which happen to be non-hex perks.

I don't need to justify anything to myself as long as I'm playing how I want to play and I'm not breaking any of the rules BHVR has defined.

I haven't gone against anything I hate, except noed on stronger killers like freddy, spirit or billy. And I used the perk 4-5 times in the last 6 months when I had to sacrifice people during egc for archive challenges.

I don't have Ruin on most of my Killers, and didn't even unlock Blight yet, so I guess I have yet to even experience a full meta build.
I probably want to though as since I've got to rank 8 Killer games have got too stressful and maybe 2 out of 5 will be enjoyable.

I play 50/50, but I play a lot these days, so I'll still feel qualified to comment, lol.
When I play survivor, I don't care what the killer is running. The only perk I occasionally get tilted over is NOED, and even then, it's more of a frustration that we didn't get all of the totems during the match (I make it a point to cleanse the ones I come across always). Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer? When you knew it was in play, there were strategies to work around them -- sometimes they'd work, sometimes they didn't, depending on the skill level of the killer. Devour Hope? Brutal when active, but added a level of fear and immediacy to the game. Pop, Corrupt, of any other "meta" perk? It's part of the challenge, and the challenge makes it fun.
Conversely, I don't have a problem playing any perk build as killer (except NOED, which I don't run). My Ruin/Undying (I never ran Tinkerer with it) was broken so many times early, I was a two-perk killer as often as not. I don't mind the lobbies where everyone is running DS, Unbreakable, BT, Dead Hard, and the like -- again, it's part of the challenge (I think DS is the one perk of the bunch that gets abused in an unhealthy way, but I run in for EVERY survivor match I play).
As was said, the perks are there to be used. Use them, whether you're playing survivor or killer, without the need to justify why.

I don't even consider the survivor's perspective when choosing a killer and build to play. I just play what I'm in the mood to play. Part of the survivor gameplay is figuring out how to survive against the challenge the killer presents. As the killer YOU define that challenge. The only time I feel bad is if someone DCs and the rest of the team just crumbles as a result. When that happens I will usually be merciful. Of course I play on console so I don't get to see post game chat, kind of hard to feel much for the survivors when you can't see their comments after the fact.

Why should you feel bad for playing a specific character in the game? Killers are defined by their powers mainly, if you enjoy that power you play that killer. That you do not like facing it doesn't mean it cannot be fun to use.
Why should you not use specific perks and builds? You can pretty much guarantee that survivors you are facing are using some type of combination of meta perks. Just if you are running the strongest builds, do not afterwards in the chat complain someone on the other side did the same.
In the end, are you having fun? That is what matters, whether the other side that you are facing as an opponent is having the best time is not really your concern... frankly they have 3 other people that should be more concerned about it than you are. The survivors you will be facing will rarely think twice about slamming the gens as quickly as they can and use any trick in the book to escape. Following the survivors guide to killer tends to be a good way to lose a game.

Personally, I run what feels good to run for me.
I've been playing around with Slinger myself, and I find him fun.
I don't hate Survivors for running Unbreakabill's Spine-Chilling DS Hard train, no matter how obnoxious it may be.
Do I get salty? Sometimes, but I'm like the Sniper from TF2.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

There isn't anything wrong with using the best perks at your disposal when you play either side if you have it and you want to use it go for it.
Id just say go into each match and judge the survivors and how you need to play from there. If it's a bunch of solos that aren't playing very well and aren't being toxic and just trying their best then just play a bit more chill no need to camp or tunnel because you're comfortable in the fact you're gunna win either way and just have fun and take advantage of the fact you're able to have a fun chill game.
However if it's a SWF who are smashing the gens and/or being toxic and you can tell this is going to be a really tough match then go full force, camp, tunnel, slug and do whatever you need to do man.

Not a main of either side, but there is no need to justify playing as a killer. Without killers this game would just be a generator repair simulator.
Builds are irrelevant. There are survivor builds that killers don't like. It is a 2-way street. Your problems with Ruin and undying are in your head. You let it psyche you out rather than adapting to them. Legion is probably more annoying than scary. Clown is only scary in close chases. He really only annoys people that like to loops killers. That is their problem, for not adapting to the killer they are playing against. All killers have players that don't like playing against them. Trapper makes me groan, because I know that I will likely step in a trap. But, I know that's my problem, not theirs. I still haven't got good playing against Nurse or Spirit but, again, that is on me, not the killer.
As long as you aren't playing in a toxic way, don't worry about it. Most hate for killers comes from not knowing how to deal with them...or, in some cases, not wanting to change palystyles to counter a specific killer.
Just play, have fun, and don't be a toxic scumbag.

You don't need to justify the killers you play. Even if you dislike them as survivor it doesn't mean a majority of survivors dislike them. You paid for the game so play whoever you want.

I never use a perk I dislike facing, such as NOED or Tinkerer. Killers I play I don't mind facing, like Pyramid Head, because I play him in what I consider a skillful way (in other words, I actually use and succeed in using my power outside of haha zone and haha animation lock).
There's one exception to this, and that's The Spirit. I play her when I'm sick and tired of everything and just want to kill people easily, and that's the only time. I convince myself this is okay because I'm bumping up her kill rate by (considering I'll play for 7 hours and queue times are instant and spirit games aren't exactly long I'd say I'm at least doing something) so she'll get nerfed quicker.

i personally have no killer build that i hate to see, I don't complain about killer builds, I do complain about survivor builds however and no i am not double standards, i don't run survivor builds i totally hate, and the only time i'd run DS ever is if i also run deliverance to make clutch saves at the end game and that's the main point of the build, not to be untouchable and get back up with unbrakable

Honestly, when I start I play just to play. Most of my thinking is, how can I make the game hard for the survivors while not making it to easy. Yes I love playing the Doc impossible skill check build but mostly for BP. And well hopefully to that group of jerk survivors who are looking to be a bunch of toxic members of the community.
But I also play other killers, trying to get better at them so I get ran around like crazy lol so I picture myself. Im the jerk killer they are gonna hate for the day

I only have BP farm perks on one of the worst killers in the game; brown addons, and I throw games to avoid camping/tunelling.
I've never had someone go "wow you did really good considering you don't have corrupt/pop or anything" I've only gotten t-bags and people telling me I suck haha.
I don't take stock in what most survivors say. The good survivors recognise when they have an advantage and when not.

I don’t run builds I don’t like, and only play killers I dislike if I have a daily or rift challenge. It’s the same thing as survivor, I don’t use what I dislike.

My advice as a killer.
Show no mercy for you shall receive none.
