Is Freddy OP or are the survivors just too toxic?

He's one of the weakest killers in my opinion, I had a daily so I played him yesterday, 11 seconds in a survivor with a few thousand hours DC'd, things like that, people DC'ing during mori etc. Why do devs take things like that to claim he's a powerful killer?

FIrst of all they used the 2010 movie (ewwww) but whatever, the claws look really nice and one of the best weapons in game to look at, but he's seriusly underpowered and devs listening to toxic survivors that refuse to play against him? like come on...

It would be nice if instead of the upcoming nerf he gets a well deserved buff, no one is going to play him if he doesnt show up in daily challenges!

It's literaly just an m1 killer whose entire power is dedicated to survivors being asleep and not going where u placed the traps which can slow them down but can also be avoided with ease!

Not to mention his teleport power takes too long, survivors well far by time u teleport and its completely unusable when all gens are done...

Freddy isn't OP. He just has too much in terms of slowdowns that work for him. IMO they should just change the slowdown addons to something else and that's it.

Still, then your post is a bait.

Freddy has basically everything, Anti-Loop ability without Cooldown, Slowdown-Add Ons, built-in slowdown (waking up at Clocks), Map Mobility...

He is not as strong as Nurse or Spirit, but it can be discussed if he is one of the Top 5 Killers (many candidates for that). He is way too strong for how easy he is to play.

I wouldn't say he's op, but he's one of the strongest killers in the game by far and not in a good way. He takes very little effort to do well with due to how much he has in his kit. Loads of his addons revolve around slowing down asleep survivors which means he's already putting pressure on them by simply existing.

As well as this, strong builds like the ruin, undying, tinkerer build are even stronger on him than most other killers. Then you have the fact he can spam his snares as much as he wants without any drawback or consequences.

The only reason I say he isn't op is that if you're awake, his power over you is significantly reduced so keeping yourself awake as much as you can is the counter to him. However the microsleep mechanic means survivors have to do this almost constantly throughout the game which in itself is more easy pressure on them.

Out of curiosity would you tell us why you think he is weak?

We heard everything between Freddy is extremly OP and he is solid, but someone saying he is weak (or one of the weakest) might actually be a first timer.

Dont forget to mention that he also has some sort of stealth mechanic aswell. In dream world, there is no terror radius and outside you cant see him at long distance.

To be fair doc has all these that youve listed as well except for the map mobility and i don't see that many nerf doc threads and that many dcs as doc. Theres also the infamous impossible skillcheck doc build and his ability to counter stealth completly with iron maiden. Id take 5 freddies over a doc on the game. I think its moreso a classic case of bandwagon since as spirit and nurse i get less dcs then as freddy and their stronger then him.

Actually you can pinpoint exactly where he is with the lullaby he gives out instead of terror radius when the survivor is asleep

DOc's skill checks if you mean overcharge are insanely easy to hit for anyone that has at least 50 hours as a survivor

Against weak survivors obviously he's gonna win but against a good team there's 0% chance unless you get lucky, usually like that for all killers if its against a really good team, literaly the one killer that could take out a SWF is trapper and even his traps can be ran over with dead hard... everyone else may as well just stand still to get more points...

Freddy is too underpowered, its fun to play against but win easily as survivor even against good freddy's and kinda lame to play as

You just said it in your own post. Doc doesn't have map mobility. Freddy does. It's not a minor difference between the two killers.

"Literally the only killer who can take out a swf is a trapper"

    images (2).jpeg

Spirit nurse and blight are the top 3 boy and all 3 of them have the map pressure and anti loop to beat a swf. I know youve probably been watching otz but hes one of the best trappers out there but he has limits to.

Agreed - especially with the last sentence.

He is too strong for how easy it is to play him. From a mechanical standpoint there's nothing you have to master as Freddy as opposed to the killers that he can be compared with in terms of strength.

As you said - Freddy has:

    - built in gen slowdown via addons.

    - built in gen defense via teleport.

    - built in anti loop via snares that have no cooldown AND no slowing animation.

    - built in tracking via snares.

    - built in semi stealth via partial invisibility while awake AND non-directional lullaby with no terror radius in dream world.

    - built in borrowed time counter via oblivious effect.

    - built in slowdown via clocks that spawn on the opposite side of the map.

    - built in slowdown via wake up animations when survivor A wants to wake up survivor B.

Not sure if I forgot something but people get the point. Which of his mechanics is "difficult enough" to justify this huge kit?

Really the only thing doctor has over freddy is tracking and that's it.

Also, you need a LOT more skill to use doctor well.Wasting your static blast means a 60 second cooldown.

Incorrect use and bad timing on your shocks can even hurt you more than help it could help you.

Also, that impossible skill check doctor build is so insanely rare that i can't even remember when i versed that build.

It was so strong one of the devs got pissed off and made up a story about lullaby not specifying all skillchecks to nerf the build. (Btw you can factcheck he was lieing by looking at old lullabys description)

1:29 (i know almo is a like rank 15 lol)

It's just a meme/gimmick kind of build and not really that good.

I'm pretty sure he just got a bit confused at that moment. You can easily see that with any other streamer. They mistake certain things in the game too.

Not spirit, I forgot about nurse and I kinda doubt it about blight but I never tried it so cant say

I mean lullaby was only really used in that build i saw since doctors thing is skillchecks so they nerfed it based on a build that shows up very rarely on a specific map that only really punishes new people. Sounds like ruin lol.

It's less about nerfing a specific build but rather for consistency sake.

Like,Lullaby worked with doctors madness skill checks but didn't with jigsaw box skill checks for example

  • supersonic853
    supersonic853 Member Posts: 5,857

On the other note though doesnt perks like unnerving presence not effect ds skillchecks because they "don't want killers to freely tunnel" but doc can make the ds skillcheck a reverse shakey skillcheck? Consistency? Lol also unnerving i think doesn't effect jigsaw boxes but does effect snap out of it.

Doc takes more to learn. I mean, I cannot say for sure how it is when someone is just picking up Doctor, because when I started to play him, he had to switch Stances, which put him on a way higher Skill Cap, because his Anti-Loop was pretty mediocre if you cannot get the timing right. So Doctor got easier.

But I know that I did Freddy-Dailies with just Fire Up 1 and got 4Ks.

But I would still say that he is harder to play than Freddy, because he still has a small Delay and goes to 4,4m/s when shocking, while Freddy stays at 4,6 m/s. Also he cannot teleport across the Map and does not have Slowdown-Add Ons. He also has built-in Slowdown, but snapping out of it is faster than running across the Map to get a Clock. The only thing that Doctor has over Freddy is the Anti-Stealth.

When it comes to Lullaby, this was mainly consistency. There were no Skill Checks apart from Healing and Repairing which were affected by Lullaby EXCEPT Snap out of it. No Jigsaw Boxes (years ago they were also affected, but this was changed long before the recent Lullaby-Change), no Cages. Also, not everyone is an experienced player and there is a huge difference if Lullaby affects Healing and Repairing or if Lullaby affects Snap Out of It.

The first two are screwing up your Objective, the latter means that you cannot play the game.

Like i told oni though consistency with doc is weird since perks like unnerving don't effect ds even though unnerving says all skillchecks (ds is the only acception btw it affects cages Snap and boxes, for tunnel reasons. But doc makes the ds reversed random placement. Kinda why i don't like when devs say "consistency" when they love putting exemptions in place.

He's not OP. It's a synergy issue with slowdowns that average survivors can't handle. Take away his slowdowns and he's high B tier.

Freddy's base is fine the problem is how perks take him from fine to devastating. Such Ruin+Undying+Tinkerer or BBQ and PGTW.

Freddy isn't over powered despite what the developers say.

The problem is his abilities are so ridiculously spammy that they require little thought; all he really needs is not to have every aspect of his ability available to him constantly so that he actually has to think about where he places snares, and when he really wants to teleport. Raising the skill ceiling and nerfing his spam at the same time.

The current Freddy basically looks over powered because his kill rate is high across ALL skill levels of play instead of only higher ones as people become good with him. (Also things like Ruin/Undying which will be nerfed as well soon anyways)

They need to raise his skill ceiling by reducing his ability spam. If that isn't enough then maybe they could look at his slow down addons or other things but ability spam is absolutely what they should look at first imo.

Toxic? Always, but not a factor.

    Low skilled? Yes

    Also Freddy isn't weak anymore.

Freddy is not remotely overpowered. The issue that survivors have is that he can't be messed around with like a lot of killers can and he's relatively simple to get the hang of. When up against a Freddy you have to respect everything he does or you WILL die but he is a longshot from broken. Consistency is such a joke in this game that a consistently good killer can be considered overpowered.
