Obsession mechanics
Two things I would like to ask regarding obsession mechanics
1) Why isn't there an obsession in the match by default at this point?
2) Why doesn't the obsession mechanic actually do anything without perks? I believe that it should have at least a small effect on gameplay (I don't know what effect though).

it gives bloodpoints

It doesn't do anything with perks. The only thing it does is give you extra points for being the obsession, there is no downside at all.

It's for roleplay.

Being chased as the obsession shows that the killer is tied up. That's about it. I don't think it really should do more than that because it would just get too confusing.
However, I do think an obsession should be in every game regardless of perks just to give the killer pause, for DS.

I always felt like a concept with such potential and history in horror movies could hold much more meaning in the in-game mechanics

Never forget, the Devs seem to think that being the obsession is a debuff...

It is a debuff.

How? Every obsession perk the killer has benefits you either by making it profitable to ignore you, punishing to touch you or straight-up buffing you, and it tells everyone in the trial whenever you get chased.
Where is the downside to being the obsession?

You are worth more bloodpoints than any other survivor. You'll get more tunneled - as if there weren't enough tunnelers already.

I thought they removed that a long while ago to prevent people from tunneling the obsession.

... Sure, that's totally a thing.
