For my 100th Discussion, i'm going to tell a personal story
This is the story of how i got into Dead By Daylight, allow me your ears and listen for a bit.
My story begins not with getting the game itself believe it or not, you see, even before seeing the game on Steam i had a bit of knowledge on the game thanks to The DBD Casefiles by Bricky, i watched the entire series, starting with Trapper and working my way down, i would watch a few videos from Tru3 and Otzdrava and eventually, in September of 2019, I watched the Demogorgon trailer, however, that was not quite when I got it, I waited 3 months and got it as a early Christmas present.
Thus my story truly begins.
The first thing I see is the lobby screen, Oni had just released so I was greeted with the trailer cutscene and the Oni lobby, because I had some spare change I decided to buy Demogorgon, he will be important later. But my first game wasn't as killer, oh no no no, it was actually Survivor. The reason being lobby times and the fact that I was impatient.
I looked through the available survivors and the first one I picked was my lifelong survivor main, Jake Park, dressed in the default look, I clicked ready up and got a quick lobby, I announced it was my first game in chat, and everyone the lobby wished me luck.
I died in the first 2 minutes, as the killer I had gotten was a pretty good Nurse, the second game went a bit better but not by much, this process continued until, my 10th game in, I managed to escape for the first time.
Hot off the heels of my success I took the rest of that day off, and the next I switched to killer, and oh boy was that something.
Killer was rough, really rough, especially when the first killer I decided to try out was GODDAMN HILLBILLY, yeah I got some good chainsaws but I never felt like I was getting anywhere, at best scoring 3 kills thanks to NOED and at worst a 4man escape, then I had the galaxy brain idea of switching from the 2nd hardest killer to play to NURSE, and lost very quickly.
That's when I played Demo, and my luck had a turn for the better, I won't pretend like I was a prodigy, of the shreds I attempted I estimate I missed about 90% of them, but when I did land my hits I felt like a god on top of the world, Demo led my to my first ever 4k Merciless Victory, and I kept going.
By this point I had gotten into a bit of a rhythm, play surv in the mornings, play killer in the afternoons, a rhythm I'm still in today (mostly anyways).
But then, tragedy struck.
My first ever 4man toxic SWF squad occurred about 60 hours in, and it was not fun nor was it pretty, I lost and then some and my pride took blow after blow after blow with the amount of toxicity in post-game chat, I dropped Demo, and even considered dropping Killer altogether.
Then. I unlocked Hag.
This was in the olden days when Ruin wasn't what it is now, and after getting 3 4ks in a row I began maining Hag, she reignited my love for the Killer role, even if she didn't reignite my love for Demo, so I played a lot of her, winning, losing, drawing, good stuff.
fast forward to patch 3.5.0, Ruin gets reworked, and my safety net with Hag finally breaks. I stopped playing Hag after that, and on a whim, bought and began playing a bit of Oni.
It was HARD, but I persevered for a bit, until the straw broke, trying to land demon strikes was beginning to seem less like a challenge and more like a test to see how much of a masochist I was, I stopped play Oni and have never looked back.
Then, on another whim, I picked up Demo again.
I didn't 4k at first, but instead just wanted to see what I could do, I landed some Shreds, missed some Shreds, but I held a 3 gen lock on my 3rd game with Demo, and that's when I rediscovered my love for him.
I started practicing to the point of obsession, practicing shreds, practicing looping, figuring out the ins and outs of killer, identifying 3 gens, and so on, and while I'm nowhere near the level of being able to compete in tournaments, nor do I want to be, the improvement's I've made have put me at a skill level where I can handle most situations effectively.
Fast forward to today, where am I now? Well, 790 hours in, I still main Demo, but in order to prevent myself from stagnating and becoming a 1 trick pony I branched out, I play Deathslinger, I play Pyramid Head, I even play Blight, not much due to his god awful FOV but when it get's fixed I will definitely play him more, I even play Doctor, Wraith, Clown, Plague and even Hag on occasion, I have completed every single tome except for the first one (something I intend on rectifying), and my highest killer rank on record is rank 5, damn close to reds, but I gave up getting to rank 1 after the sweat squads started wearing me down, and I have resolved myself to strictly at greens, not only is it my favourite colour, but lobbies are consistently unique and aren't second chance spam every match. I play more survivor then I used to, and am currently going for a 100 of every single item challenge (I'll update you guys on that soon, don't you worry). I even have a bit of online fame thanks to my occasional Streamer games, every TTV I see (excluding one) has been a nice guy/gal, and while I do try to play fair and put on a good show I always try to win whenever I see them, after all, where's the fun in not giving it my all when I'm being recorded?
So yeah, that's my story, gone from hopeful Billy main, to a multi-trick player with a lot of hours and feats under his belt. That's my story, and it won't end any time soon

It's great to hear people's stories on how they got into the game! I've played since release and I've often wondered how people came into the game after that, whether they'd watched streams/youtube vids etc or if it was purely from their friends playing.
I think it's great that you play a variety of characters, I think that really helps - I try to, I want to learn Nurse but I am really bad with her, even with Shadowborn on I get Dizzy, I enjoy playing Demo but I'm not great with him, he definitely takes a lot more skill than first appears!
