Survivor Gameplay Expectations
One trend I frequently see in discussions is a manner in which a gameplay element is brought up, Survivors cry about it, Killers rebuke it with a form of counterplay, and the Survivors in turn then say something along the lines of "I shouldn't have to do that." or "Why should I be punished by having to do X?" in response.
This is a really strange take for me, because one of things that is often lamented by Survivors is the fact that this game often feels like "an M1 Simulator" and how boring it is to sit on gens all day.
A very valid Survivor criticism that they have against Killers that accuse them of gen rushing is "What else am I supposed to be doing? It's our only objective."
And they are right. Scott Jund has made this point numerous times (particularly in his video about breakable walls where he said that Survivors should have to build them and they should not just spawn in) that Survivors are left with little to do at the game onset, and are in fact rewarded for doing nothing else.
Okay, so then why is it so bad when Killers respond to NOED complaints with "Do the totems then?" and the Survivors howl about it.
"I shouldn't have to go pick someone off the ground because the Killer is a slug lord."
"I shouldn't have to heal myself constantly because the Spirit can hear me while injured."
"I shouldn't have to go back and find my item because the Killer brought Franklin's."
I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to.
What then, SHOULD a Survivor be expected to do? This is a serious question. What sort of gameplay do you want when you are not happy riding generators but bristle and hiss at the suggestion you engage in any other sort of behavior that isn't gate teabagging or flashlighting or killer looping?

Not all survivors complain about things like these just the entitled ones, just the same as the entitled killers complain about perks and play styles they go against that they personally don't like. There not all the same just the entitled minority. Most players understand the game and deal with what's thrown at them.

You should be expected to win every match against only M1 killers and bully them with your SWF squad then talk ######### freely in end game chat.

Survivor main here and you do have a point. Personally, what I find a bit busted from NOED is that it sometimes grants bad killers a lot of hooks they do not deserve to get. The same way that sometimes second chance perks carry bad survivors, absolutely. I don't mind doing totems, I will go and do them all every match if I can. But it's so frustrating when you manage to loop a killer all match only to get hit right when the last gen pops and go down immediately, not to mention be instantly facecamped. In SWF this is bearable because you can push your teammates to do totems and find NOED. But solo Q is hell, you usually get potato teammates that don't even know what a bone is. For that I blame matchmaking + the fact that the game never encourages you to do totems (it's not mentioned in the tutorial, they're never presented as a secondary objective, etc).
As for the rest, you're right. I don't personally mind anything else that you mentioned in this list, but there are survivors who will complain about these things. Hopefully they're just a very loud minority.

I play more Survivor than Killer, so my post is not intended as a Survivor based attack. I'm just genuinely curious what sorts of gameplay the community would expect at this point both from the developer standpoint and the gameplay counterplay from Killers in general. It feels like a weird kind of Stockholm Syndrome where other Survivors loathe just sitting on gens but don't seem to want to have to do anything else.
I am not sure what the mindset is. I don't think my opinion is valid in this arena, as I am sitting at 228 hours as of this post and some people have thousands upon thousands and that alters game expectations.

No no don't worry, I didn't read it as an attack, I think your post is not worded like an attack ^^ I'm just giving my personal input as a (mostly) survivor main.
Like you said, some people are so contradictory that the moment you mention secondary objectives (whether it's the ones that are already in the game, like the ones you mentioned, or a new secondary objective that the devs have been contemplating to add at the beginning of the match) they make this big fuss and complain. But then the alternative would be making gens take longer to complete, and that would be boring as hell, something that I feel most survivor mains agree with.
So... who knows. Lol.
