New player v Red Ranks
Hi. Having watched DBD a lot on twitch I thought I’d give it ago for myself.
As you can imagine, I’m not a very good player as I’m only 15 hours into the game, half of which was playing as survivor. I’m currently at Killer Rank 13. Yet I’ve just had back to back games against red ranked teams. I clicked on one player’s name and they had over 4,000 hours in game. Why is this happening? I’m just trying to learn the game and I’m coming up against people who are considerably more experienced than I am. How can a player who is still learning how to blink as nurse be matched up against someone with 4,000 hours?
It’s making me want to stop playing as I’m getting absolute zero enjoyment out of it. Is there an issue with matchmaking or is this just how it works with this game?
Thanks.

MM has been ######### up for awhile now.
Also there is a killer shortage, so after survivors are waiting for a while they expand the MM parameters.

Basically there are not enough highly skilled Killers, and way more high ranked survivors. This means that low rank newbie Killers must be put against red rank survivor teams regularly.
I'm also new to the game (playing regularly since October last year), and feel your pain OP.
However one advantage to playing these players with 4000 hours, is you are exposed to lots of high level techniques and skills from the get go. It is difficult and you will lose lots of games, but with the right mindset you can learn and thrive! Just expect to lose, or you will get stressed.
Aim to improve your play incrementally and learn each game, rather than aiming to "win" or consistently get kills.

They are working on an MMR system that SHOULD stop things like this from happening but who knows if it's even gonna work this time

It's a matchmaking issue. Currently, the matchmaker just isn't great, and your games will either be you completely stomping your opposition, or getting completely stomped- with what feels like no real middle ground.
What I could suggest is to just focus more on learning the game and getting BP, as that is one of the most important things to do as a new killer. Watch people like Otz and see what they do at loops you struggle at, and try to implement that into your own play. Try to understand how you could have downed that one Survivor that ran you for half the game.
(Also, I'm not quite sure if this is still a thing in Matchmaking, but I do also remember hearing something for a while that consistent wins really screws up your matchmaking as Killer- don't quote me on that, it was just something I heard in passing and believed in due to... well, we've all had matchmaker do us dirty after a few great games )

While you try to learn the game, learn to mute the dozens of toxic survivor messages you will receive telling you how bad you are, etc.

Turn off the chat and just imagine you're playing a solo game on Insane difficulty. I'm about 200 hours and face red/purple almost every game on the weekends.
If you can play midday weekdays the MM is better. I get more accurate matches. I play survivor Friday evening-Sunday because the MM is so bad on weekends and the toxicity towards killers is super amplified.

Unfortunately, killers are low in numbers so its more likely to be pared with a lower level killer due to the (stupid) feature that makes you match with people 6 levels higher or lower. SWF is confusing to find a killer as it takes the average.
