Why allow VPN players??

Options

Vpn allows killers such a huge advantage (latency wise) How is it even allowed in DBD??? Im curious. I just went against my first VPN killer and that was not a GOOD EXPERIENCE. Hits were connecting 5 seconds after i would vault something, The killer actually teleported closer to me. This is some ridiculousness

that's what their hit whatever thingies on the test servers are for. there are plenty of people who's vpns give some apps issues even when split tunneling is a function available, for example activision's launcher gives me ######### even trying to run hearthstone even when the vpn is set to only function on the web browser through split tunneling. as such I don't use it while I'm actually using the computer, and as such, I'm reduced to botting hearthstone if i can rarely play it. Since I'm not gonna shut down my vpn at some dev's whim. The government is demanding enough these days to let some suit executive or pissant developer tell me how to use my computer too. they can frak off and so can any game doing that unless theyw anna buy the game and pay for my internet for me. Half of them are probably 'socialists' these days anyways so it should sound like a good idea.

yeah that is probablys hady typically, but I have no idea what's like living under a government like china's (not yet anyway) so they might have good reasons for trying to play on other servers even if it just comes down to something like ######### graphical censorship or too much censorship on the chat or something else equally silly to be imposed by a government on games running servers there. For an american (or anybody elsewhere) to do that on non local servers though, without a good enough reason like you get matches two or three times as fast on s canadian IP over an american one, it's a pretty douche move and probably intended to be used as a softcore ('legal' or mild) cheat. I use american proxies in my vpn, outside of rare situations when I wanna view something region blocked (lol region block on the internet talk about governments and industries need to get with the times).

If you use Steam in China without a VPN you literally can't use it during certain times of the night and only for an hour and a half a day. The government has really strict limits on video gaming there so I'm sure a huge number of people in China use VPNs just to play more than an hour and a half a day. If that means VPNing to the US or other closer places than I guess it has to happen.

I'm not sure how technically easy it would be to block VPNs. AFAIK all a VPN does is route your traffic via some other computer (i.e. an IP address).

I'm not sure how these IP addresses are managed within VPN companies, but there is probably a lot of them. I think it might be difficult for BHVR to maintain some system which tracks and flags these IPs.

There may be other tell-tale signs of using a VPN but I'm not 100% sure.

lol an hour and a half a day, and probably not able to stack that time up from during the week and use it all at once on the weekends. I would honestly not see full priced games worth paying for if we had to deal with that bs since I'd never get use out of them or even realistically finish more than 2 or 3 a year and some longer games couldn't even be fully enjoyed or finished for years like tes or witcher 3 with expansions. I would have pirated the games since the restrictions would obviously be circumvented that way, able to play as much as wanted without feeling as if money had been wasted on something hardly able to be used. No wonder groups like 3dm existed over there, they were basically necessary over there. At least even if they paid for it just to be able to actually use what they paid for even having to ironically apply cracks to the games they bought lmfao. And our american politicians 'look up to' china (or enjoy the kickbacks), a dark winter indeed, a bunch of them to come some day probably. The day we get that sort of bs over here is the day I would never pay for a video game I played ever again. I would go full blackbeard including things like steam emu.

    I wish I could VPN.

I've got a fan club that DDoS's me whenever I play against them.

Do I misunderstand what server side hit validation is supposed to do. Wasn't that supposed to make latency a bad thing? I don't think it works because it seems like I get hit with bs whenever I can tell the killer is leggy af.

First of all, how do you know you are playing against VPN killers?

I use VPN to escape the Russians, but my ping always turns out better than the survivors anyway soooo ye not a problem for me.

But since hit validation was turned on I noticed slot of bullshit hits after running for like 3+ seconds away from the window and then got hit, ran a killer shack size away from window and still hit trough the window.

I think survivor ping determines it more because I also noticed quite slot of BS misses since it was turned on, instead of survivor it stuns me and makes a sound like i hit a wall etc, but I got used to it I have to aim much further away from walls, pallets etc.

Edit: not connecting me to Russians servers when in UK and US East and I won't need VPN.

Ps:I have never been in or near russia IRL or with a vpn

Pps: not saying all Russians r cheaters but literally every lobby has at least 1 multiple vac bans multiple game bans account so no thank u, went against too many cheaters that way. The game should have never been given away for free to keep, Russian resellers made millions of burner accounts during that week

I mean my ping is always in the 20s ot low 30s. when i have high ping sure but this game i remember 100% that my ping was fine. I vaulted the carriage where maurice is dropped down as this vpn huntress threw a hatchet like she threw it as i vaulted but late for sure atleast it looked late due to latency i hit the ground took a step the poof i was magically hit by the hatchet.

I don't suppose you've ever been threatened by another player online who traced your IP, and told you what city you live in just to make it clear the threat is real. Had that happen once while playing DbD, after that I got a VPN which connects through US servers just to keep that kind of Bullshit out of my life.

Lame threats and salty requests for me to commit suicide is one thing, but threatening to SWAT me, putting my families lives in danger, and proving you can with an IP trace is a whole other level of ######### up... It's just a game.

For anyone wondering, you bet your asses I reported the hell outta that guy.

Because if anybody tries to tell me how to use my computer I'll uninstall their trash and keep using my VPN.

Edit: didn't realize I already posted on this.

Far better idea to make it so high latency is always a disadvantage than trying to mess with VPNs in particular. That's the goal of the hit validation system at least.

If someone VPNs to a different city or something for basic privacy purposes or even to a nearby country to avoid country-specific restrictions it won't be the end of the world for them. Meanwhile someone that VPNs as far away as possible specifically to mess with their latency will have trouble. There's all sorts of perfectly valid reasons to use a VPN so it's better to do it that way.

And of course that will still cause some "collateral damage". People in very sparsely populated regions, people in areas with no nearby servers. But just like something like the DC penalty system, there will always be some collateral damage with perfectly innocent people getting hit with it. Best that can be done is try to minimize that, as it will always happen.

Hit validation just ruined it, I have over 2 dozen times( and I very rarely play survivor) 20 ping most of the time and I get hit waaay too far from the window I vaulted, it was much better before it has nothing to do with VPN

Yeah I've certainly heard a lot of bad about it and can't say much about how it works as I personally don't end up in high-latency lobbies myself, but it seemed like the idea behind it was to make sure any disadvantages that come with high latency fall on the player(s) that actually have latency. The idea is good, but sure seems like it needs a lot more work.

I agree with the idea and goal behind it but it obviously has to work properly to be good. And I'm fully aware it isn't intended as an anti-VPN "abuse" feature, that's just a source potential source of high latency like any other.

EDIT: Especially needs more work if it causes weird behavior even with lower latency. Again, idea good execution not so much for now.

I've considered doing the same thing tbh. I don't know why I always get russians in my game if I'm in Portugal.

    Same here.

The highest ping i got in a lobby was 1100. I made a screenshot and dodged.

Unfortunately, you might have good ping, the other 4 players can still have bad latency. You cant see theirs, cause it would make you dodge more, probably.

The matchmaking is not region locked, but ppl can still VPN if they want to.

It is not hard to realize an obvious issue, so the only thing i can think of is that they are just simply not capable to fix it.

People use VPN to bypass queue times, which is understandable. However the servers aren't stable enough, so that's why you have been experiencing these issue with these players.

That is not an excuse to ruin others gameplay experience and/or gain advantage on purpose. That behaviour considered as an offense and should be punished.

I agree on that the system has some insufficiencies, but it is not a reason to ignore one problem because of another.

I'm considering now to purchase a VPN to escape from EU servers when I play survivors, Americans will probably have more fair hits and be healthier
