Sole Survivor talk

Sole Survivor is probably gonna be the only perk that's going to be in true needs to be changed.

Even with current iteration of Object of Obsession this perk was border-line useless. Either you were tunneled at the start of the match or teammates died and making a match the 3v1. And in 3v1 the killer generally is gonna win unless it happened in too late stages of the match.

Sole Survivor used to be percentage based too but like Enduring's problem... Different aura-reading ranges made perk feel inconsistent.

Question: How would you make Sole Survivor a viable (not meta) perk?

I would change sole survivor like this

    Sole survivor

you become shrouded in isolation and the Killer's aura reading abilities are disrupted as your friends reach closer to death.

Each time your allies reaches a hook state you gain a token.

For each token you gain your aura will not be read by the killer within a max range of 4/6/8

    How is this?

I don't think it can ever be a viable perk. It's concept is a perk that benefits you for having dead teammates and being the "sole survivor", but... That's not what you want in a perk unless you're sandbagging, which is in itself not something to be encouraged.

The only thing I can think of is splitting up it's power so that you get 55% of the total effect just for equipping the perk, and for each dead survivor you get the additional 15%.

Naturally the maximum aura cancellation would have to be nerfed because 40m of personal aura cancellation is kinda huge just for equipping a perk.

Great breakdown. The core concept of needing your teammates dead to have an effect is never going to be good.

The only time this perk might shine is if you play super selfish with Left Behind and a Key. And even then, it might not have any effect if the Killer doesn't have aura reading perks.

Or maybe get rid of the aura reading concept and make it like old left behind. Meaning increase action speed for every survivor who is killed.

I've heard on idea of this:

For each dead survivor grant a Token. Each Token decreases grunts of pain sounds, screaming sounds and blood trail duration by 11/22/33% per Token.

    I don't know if that's alright though...

this would be a lot better i think it could have higher values tho since when the perk finally activates one of your teammates are dead and the match nearly always results in the killer winning from there unless 1 or all gens are completed.

but yeah reducing the max range aura reading perks work on you is a very good idea, as for ones caused by addons without a max range i think they could either reduce the duration your aura is revealed or stop it entirely that is the only inconstant thing with this idea.

    I dunno.

I still really love the idea of a perk having permanent aura blocking over an increasingly massive range of distance.

It may be insanely niche, but I can tell you from personal experience it can be insanely powerful, and what saves my life in a match. Just 1 Sole Survivor token completely ruins a Wraith, Pig, or Myers throwing down a Gideon, Lery’s, Midwich, or Hawkins offering, that are running their wall hack add ons.

And when OoO and Sole Survivor are run together, if the death of team mates cannot be prevented, no matter how hard I try, being the last survivor alive is a free escape because I can almost always see where the killer is, and there is no possible way for them to read my aura.

Sole Survivor is a perk that rewards you for the death of your teammates. It’s a completely selfish perk in that sense. Even Left Behind which shares some similarities is better designed because it also works if your teammates have escaped and you’re the only one left in the trial.

What if Sole Survivor was more like Left Behind in that sense? For every survivor that is dead/escaped the trial, you gain a token towards aura reading protection?

Thing is... You are in a team. You don't want your team to die if they do well for instance. And new idea for Object of Obsession is gonna be kind of "eye for an eye" perk and it's gonna be more reliable while also not making your team die

The point of Sole Survivor isn’t to hope your team dies so that the player can get use out of it. It’s insurance in the event of team mate deaths.

Of course it’s important to rescue team mates, and attempt to prevent their deaths. But let’s not pretend that we can always prevent that because all killers are bad.

Despite our best efforts, some team mates die because either the killer is damn good, or the teammate was just bad.

Sole Survivor needs to be balanced around people dying. Can't get around that that's the core concept of the perk. As such it will never be meta unless you give it a crazy power, because it relies on people dying to activate, and if a killer gets that first kill before 3 gens are done you've basically already lost. If you only get it to activate stage 1 by the time it's almost endgame the perk will always be junk.

Perhaps a rework from the concept towards a perk that makes it more likely you'll survive to be the last survivor standing makes more sense.

With 4 survivors it gives you Aura Read Blocking up to 72m. First death it goes down to 48m, 2nd death 24m, when you're all alone the benefit is gone and now you're the Sole Survivor.

I'd give it additional effects for every dead survivor besides the aura reading immunity.
