The devs are too proud to revert these awful changes
When I say that they're too proud, I don't mean that they're happy with what they released (though they might be). I mean they would never come out and say that the changes are bad. I've not seen a single post saying that the changes are completely good and flawless, so I think it's safe to say that the majority of us dislike these changes.
First of all- the bars. I struggle to see and the bars are very unclear. Also with the old bars they used to flash red if a downed survivor was being healed or if a survivor was being carried- a subtle thing but very helpful. The bars don't flash red anymore. Overall the new HUD is just way too small and too unclear.
The animations too... I played against a Deathslinger yesterday and was looping and I knew he'd try to shoot over the loop, I tried to bait it and run back but because of how long it takes to actually turn around and pick up speed, I ended up getting shot.
But like I said... the devs are too proud and they never listen to feedback, nor do they hardly even play their own game. Don't expect these changes to be reverted because the devs will never admit that they f'd up.
On a happier note I really like the Crotus Prenn Asylum and The Game map changes (visually, not to play in).

The devs are just clueless.. they’re nice people don’t get me wrong but they really don’t know what to do with their game anymore..

its not really pride, its more about letting something simmer a bit, TONS of players on this forum im sad to say have extreme kneejerk reactions.
Seriously, if you would nerf the trapper that it now takes 0.000001% longer to set a trap, people would be crying all over this forum even though it would not actually do anything to their gameplay, its just the idea of a nerf....
I see this new hud more as a excersize in what is possible with a new underlying system, same with how the system for showing aura's was changed a little while ago, like they said this might (AND SHOULD) lead to being able to customise your HUD.
But yeah, in a month or so I doubt the complaints will be any less because it really is objectively bad, its funny to having studied communications and multimedia design to think I would NEVER get away with something like this there, oh the questions I would get....
Either way, let it simmer, get past the kneejerk reactions, THEN we can maybe actually put something into motion.
The old HUD is not gone really, they would just have to build a HUD that looks exactly like it on this new underlying system, which isnt really an issue I would think.

It’s not unanimous. Not everyone is unhappy. I so far love every new change, including the HUD. Others also like it.
4 -
"others also like it" is just a fox news tactic, just speak for yourself.
and honestly, give some arguments as to why the new HUD is better then the old HUD.
31 -
Hey I respect your opinion and I'm actually glad some people like it. However roughly 4 out of 5 times when I see people discussing the new UI it's primarily negative. Main issue is how your eyes need to focus on so many different areas now.
27 -
For starters, you can tell what survivor each player is playing. To add on, you have a tally counter for each survivor and a total hook counter for the killer.
More of the screen is freed up as well, so all in all, it's not all bad. Not to say improvements can't be made, but it's not as bad as the community makes it to be. 😅

I never had an issue with the old HUD- it never got in the way and I'd see who each person was playing before we went into a game so I knew who was injured. I like the tally counter for killer and I like the tally counter for survivors, but nothing else needed changing.
5 -
Why """""fix"""""" something that isn't broken? Why change the HUD? The old one was fine.
16 -
actually less of the screen is freed up and more importantly, less important screenspace is visible.
You can tell what survivor each player is playing by....oh idk paying attention in the lobby? like we have always done?
Not to mention that if the survivor is playing some radically different (legendary) skin they wont even look like that.
Honestly it seems like once again something purely made for new players, as most of this HUD seems to be about, but I think they will be more then anything confused when they expect a Meg looking like a Meg and that Meg player has the super red hair equiped, or David with the Top Hat, I think it would cause more confusion then anything else with new players.
4 -
I can agree with it wasn't all necessary, but the developers are trying to modernized the game and make it look more appealing. If they didn't break the game with the new HUD, what's the big deal?
I like the new HUD feature for the most part. Do I have my compliants? Yes, there are some things I dislike about it, but I like how they are trying to make the game look better and I can't be the only one who's in favor of the new HUD. 😊

It's not unanimous? Don't make me laugh. 9/10 people are very disappointed. All the streamers are sad, OG players, fog whisperers called out the devs.
It's heavily unanimous. Seriously, on this forum, only you and 2 people more liked these atrocious changes.
20 -
I think it's less about the devs but the people in charge of BHVR.
At least i hope so
8 -
I hope they keep the idea, but make it more enjoyable for everyone. 😁

I'm not against a new HUD either but it has to be better, or at least on par, with the last one. I think this one is objectively worse at relaying all the information it's trying to relay. The only parts I like are the hook counters, and showing more bp score events at once. The rest I think they completely downgraded. It's an eyesore.
But hey I'm glad at least someone doesn't hate it lol.

The devs have a horrid habit of changing things that never need changing, and abandoning things that need addressing

survivors are skins, if they had specific powers then that would be very important. I played killer 2 times yesterday and I had eye strain like I have not had in years. So bad I was sidelined the whole day really with a tension headache caused by the strain. this strain was not there the day before so what changed? the UI. that is what. So back to your assertion that it's good to tell what survivor is playing.... it does not matter, what does it tell you beyond what they might look like? the hook counter by each survivor's name? that is ONLY on the survivor HUD, the killer HUD does not have the hook counter by the specific survivor and it is inaccurate. what the killers have is a hook state counter, because it'll fill three in the minute someone dc's (or their remaining hook states), NOW here is the rub!!!!! killers need to know how many hooks each survivor have had just as much as the survivors do actually more so. the HUD for survivors gives them an advantage over the killer because now oh that person is on death hook (I know it's not hard to remember yourself but i've forgotten at times myself as survivor) so I'm not going to lift a finger to help them, I'll just keep doing this gen. So the killer is screwed more because now gets keep being worked when transporting the survivor to the hook instead of seeing people go for rescues because you were not sure they were on death hook... congratulations you now have more power than the killer ohhhhh... normally I can keep track of the hook states of others, I didn't need this update.
NOW I will say the HUD did need to be updated but not like this. a HUD is supposed to place things for you to quickly glance to see what is going on. This HUD does not do this. look at the HUD a fighter pilot has it's a QUICK look and shows the status of his own jet's armaments and a few other things and it's not all over a huge screen. Look at most MMO HUDS, you can glance to an area when you need it but don't have to keep moving around to see things for what you are doing, this one requires you to jump around the screen and it pulls you from what you are doing. previously you glanced to your left and down you still could easily see the walls and floor of where you are.
so 1) pain inducing HUD is not good, 2) information is TOO spread out and some even is ambiguous, and 3) very little of the change is streamer friendly at all.
so looking at what it should be: survivor and gen counter down bottom left and you can use that size it won't interfere at all (good thing if they would let the UI be modifiable or at minimum MOVABLE. survivor portraits are not done well and not needed, It is hard to see who the obsession is, and hard to know if you are or have inflicted a deep wounds hit (bt or legion) etc. It's hard to see when the killer is picking up the survivor or that they are being healed or being brought down off a hook. The gen counter at the top center is even worse, bring it back to the bottom left again as well don't need it top center. skill checks barely allow you to see where the great skill check is. the emblem in the center does not work. and the checks look tacky. The only good thing I can say is the scoring events are on the right side and can have more than 3 at a time... sure that's ok but it's not enough to get a "hey this can be good" out of it.
6 -
Yeah, having survivor portraits and then gen counter in 2 different places is annoying. Could have easily left that in the corner by your power. Now my eyeballs are roving all over to find simple info.
Total hook tally for killer is USELESS. Serves no purpose whatsoever.

Not liking this one at all ..makes 0 sense tbh..from a nervous looking worried type character at start of match to a more very confident , no worries it's just a killer after me type character stance . This isn't GTA where they should stand like this with no worries ..character is frightened and worried and must get out . Why this change I don't know .

Adding on to this (which I 100% believe the higher ups are responsible for a lot of the decisions made. Not all of them, but a lot.)
They spent money and resources on the new HUD and movement. I'm not saying I like them, they look terrible, but BHVR is at a loss here no matter what they do.
Revert the changes, they just wasted time and resources.
Keep the changes, face constant complaining and battering.
This whole situation is a lose-lose for BHVR, (probably) spurred on by the people above the Devs.

CNN coverage. You heard it here first.

So
im going to be honest my biggest bug bare with this game is camping/tunneling I came away from this game for almost a year because I was sick of it
I came back to see the new changes and stuff and I feel tunneling has just gotten worse because of the hook counter it’s an absolute joke tunneling and camping is on another level especially being jack down at rank 20 it’s an absolute joke I really used to be in love with this game but I don’t know if I can play it anymore

They just live in another dimension and ignore every feedback that isn't positive.
7 -
Firstly, you could tell who plays who in pre-lobby or just by pressing ESC in the beginning of the match. It is not like they discovered a new continent with putting ugly profile pics to hud. I saw many versions here on feedbacks done in a very aesthetic elegant way than what they did here.
Other thing is hook counter. It could have been easily added without completely changing the fabric of the game.
Also about modernizing.. I think making graphics, fonts, stances, animation like any common game in the market is a bad strategy, since they already had an unique and characterized atmosphere in game.
Non of the changes you liked are justified, non of them were essential and they could been implemented in very different, more efficient ways. If anything they reduced the information you got from survivor icons and bars.
The changes are rushed, not well-thought, poorly executed and unnecessary. No reason to defend them here.

If you read the discussion he started yesterday, you’d understand. It’s as if he’s desperately trying to become a fog whisperer or something. I’ve never seen someone try so hard to catch the attention of the devs through sheer flattery. There’s absolutely no shame in his game.

The truth
1 -
Too proud of what? They made a steaming pile of sh*t, if anything they should be disgusted with how little they know about coding.
0 -
If Devs are so proud maybe we should let them play in house... As soon as I quitted the game I changed my recommendation on steam. I bought the game twice, so I have two votes. Normally steam community hub would be 55-60k at these tome premieres, 5minutes ago there was 45k. I believe that if numbers go south more, they will have time to think what was wrong...
2 -
It's hard to look at on a 65" tv for extended periods of time. The survivors also move like robot people with bird legs who ordered grande fajita nachos at lunch.
2 -
Agreed that they are updating visually in a way that they are losing their uniqueness with not only visuals but atmosphere. Great point.
1 -
I just checked steam and they have almost 50k players in-game. Clearly everyone is as happy as a clam, and we are outcasts.
One of the worst things we do to ourselves here is thinking we have a voice and the feedback we provide can change anything. Devs will continue to do what they think is right, and clearly not enough people care to make a difference. I've seen some games take a step back when they are forced to see negative comments on steam or other platforms. I don't think it will happen here.
2 -
"Others" this sounds like something written by someone working at behavior. I'm sorry but if 50+ of your top streamers, content creators, fog whisperers say this is absolutely garbage. Then guess what. It's garbage. These devs make the game but don't play near as much as these streamers that actually know more about what is best. You have people playing 10-12 hrs a day. Devs probably work a normal 8 and then when they get home the last thing they wanna do is see anything related to DbD.
2 -
And they look so silly when they move. Especially from the killer perspective.
0 -
Pretty much, since they like the changes, it doesn’t matter to them whether we like it or not. I can’t speak for everyone, but the devs have a long route to take if they want to earn my trust back.
1 -
That dont mean much. It just means again, only game of its type and that people will put up with bad changes. It dont mean people like it lol. Ik several people on multiple platforms that dont like it but played. Here isnt any different than elsewhere except that on a forum you will get a more detailed response.
0 -
Have you given up? It's raw!! If Gordon Ramsay played DBD he would be so angry about the low standards these people have. A bunch of angry players here and on youtube they won't care that much about it so this will happen again and again and again.
1 -
It's not pride, it's that they put a lot of money and effort into it, and it's difficult for anybody to let that effort go down the drain.
People really have no appreciation for the devs and how difficult it is to maintain a game, and then get so self-righteous about blaming them for sin x, y, and z. The devs are just as human as all of us and have to deal with the same problems as all of us. Getting vitriolic over well-intentioned changes and attacking their intentions is a completely useless assertion, and if that's really how one will contribute to the community, they ought to leave.
