Why the developers couldn't get a the Ghostface from Scream?

The question is pretty stupid, but I'm not entirely clear and it's still good to know why it didn't happen, you see, at first I always believed that Ghost Face was from Scream's license, but after 1 week I realized that the It wasn't, because he had the clothes as if he were a killer apprentice from the Assassin's Creed saga.

The only thing he had in common with the elements of the Scream saga, was the typical Fun-World mask, the tactical knife and the way he cleaned it, referring to how he cleaned his weapon after stabbing his victims. Well the thing to my question is why couldn't the developers get a Scream Ghostface? Maybe the rights I think belonged to the Dimension Films production company or Wes Craven or the licensees of the Nightmare on Elm Street license, maybe I'm wrong. The developers failed with the licensees of the Scream saga and turned to Fun-World?

Although to be honest, I like the Ghostface that I have, despite not being the character in the Scream movies since many stalkers have worn the suit, but it was an unknown that did not leave me alone, also, this suit is the most close we have, despite being a cosmetic, compared to the imitation of the Apprentice Killer costume from Assassins Creed but in Ghostface version.

I'm glad BHVR created an original character who wears the GhostFace mask rather than a character from Scream franchise as I prefer Danny Johnson's back story.

    According to the game's wiki:

"The Ghost Face is not one of the many Killers who take on the alias from the Scream films, but rather an original character based on the Mask the franchise used for their Killers. This is because the copyrights for the Mask and for the films are entirely separate due to the films using a pre-existing Character Mask for their Killers."

Getting the licensing rights for a character from a movie franchise is a lot more difficult than getting it for the costume. On top of that, whenever they do get the rights for a movie character, they also get hit with a lot of restrictions from the license holders, which is why it takes them forever to make any changes to their gameplay mechanics and create alternative cosmetics for them. With Ghostface, the only restriction they have comes down to the cosmetics, which have to be existing variants of the Fun world ghostface mask, otherwise they have complete freedom to make any changes they want. In essence, going this rout and creating their own character who simply uses the GF mask is actually more beneficial for the game.

There isn't really a simple answer to that. If you want some good reasoning why it was done this way go watch this.

I find that very amusing with the license stuff. "Well we couldn't get the license for Scream.....BUT WE GOT THE RIGHTS FOR THE MASK AND COSTUME! :D"

It's very weird but it turns out the ghostface costume actually was a thing before the Scream movie even released. Yes, that's right, the costume came first. Bet the movies made the costume go from "meh" to infamous.

I do like Danny Johnson's lore and backstory.

Now I'm curious if the company will make a Dead By Daylight inspired version of the costume.

Yes, maybe obtaining a movie character has its disadvantages such as not obtaining many cosmetics, instead with the Fun-World license you can make variants or create cosmetics like the Ghostface costume with the Blight serum. That's the great thing about having the mask license from Fun-World.
