Killer main plays survivor... a lot of survivor

Alright, so this thread will be a lot of "lists" since that's easier to read.

I am a rank 1ish killer on PS4

I play with crossplay on

I've never broken rank 6 as survivor since I barely play it

I play solo

The most sweaty perks I used are Iron Will and Kindred

So I've been playing a lot of survivor recently since killer ques have been kinda wack, and I've just barely started to actually care to do the tome, and holy ######### does it suck.

Everything about survivor is painfully dull.

The gens are monotonous

The survivors are bad

The Killers are bad

The match making is bad

The items are boring

I'd like to break each of these things down briefly.

Generators are uninspired mini games that take 0 skill or mental capacity to do. It'd be nice if they had some actual mechanics to them, or at least different mini games in place of the "sKiLl ChEcKs"

To many people have already explained how awful solo survivors are, so i wont bother

The killers on the other hand... god damn. Most of them chase 1 person for the whole match, leaving the rest of the survivors to just sit on gens, catch them, then camp with NoED. People constantly get tunneled hardcore, meaning nobody gets any altruism points

Stop giving me rank 1 killers ffs

The items survivors have don't change your playstyle so you the items all boil down to hold m1 for less time, hold m1 but not on a generator, get tunneled out first, or mildly annoy the killer

Killers don't really on teammates, if you lose then it was probably because you made a mistake, or they just played better. As survivor, your skill does not matter since you running the killer around does not guarantee anything. The form of "Carrying" for survivors is to have the ability to sit on a gen

Killers each play differently and have addons to give them even more playstyles. For survivors, it's the same 5 perks and playstyle or you're basically throwing

It especially sucks since as a killer player, I go out of my way to make sure everyone enjoys the match. Then I play survivor and see that most killers try their hardest to make matches miserable

Why don't we have a bunch of different items? At least items of differing rarities.

Why have generators been the same thing for the past 5 years?

How come there isn't an effective tutorial?

How come the Meta hasn't really been changed since the release of Decisive Strike?

Why are survivors just recolors of other survivors?

Even though killers also haven't really changed in what they do in the past 5 years, they at least have different ways to play, perks that have synergy with their power, addons that change their playstyle even more

tl;dr

Survivors fun is based off the killer's ability to play well, whether the killer wants to play relatively nice, and the skill of your teammates, and even if all of these things align, it's still boring to have basically no difference in characters, viable perks, and items. As it stands, the base game is repetitive, frustrating, and unfair for survivors (unless you play in a swf, in which case, everything above is kinda moot).

generators and their spawns take the work of 5 braincells to understand, yet every single of my random games my teammates start the match repairing corner gens and dont prevent getting 3 gened

It's much harder for a team of survivors in solo queue to get the correct synergies together than killer does. Killer can just select whatever they want to play, meanwhile u gotta cross your fingers and hope your teammates have the right survivors.

Haha I love this post. I’m more a survivor player who has been playing killer more recently since before the last patch, and it’s interesting to hear a killer main’s perspective on playing survivor.

Very true indeed, but I do have fun playing survivor. Items can be interesting, like if you do a sabo build. But yes, killers can go out of their way to make your time miserable and skill does not guarantee your win.

But I still prefer survivor because of the team aspect, because you don’t have complete control and need to depend on others. I find it uninspiring when you’re completely invulnerable and in control and need nobody else. That was preferable years ago when I was younger and more headstrong and wanted to be able to do everything on my own.

But now as I am more grown up I find it more interesting to learn to get along, deal with difficult people and to depend on others. And it is more of a challenge and unpredictable.

Ok this is becoming a Ted talk, time to move on. But yes survivor more interesting(to me), killer not so much. But I still play killer sometimes to see how the other side fares.

right now there is only 1 character with "special ability" its called blend (guess about which character im talking about) and i wish to see them less (as both surv and killer)

You don't want unique Survivor passives / abilities because Survivors would have a hard time optimizing it?

I mostly play for fun myself and I think more options sounds fun to build around.

I almost exclusively play killer. I used to play a lot of survivor before crossplay turned the matchmaking into junk.

I did one game of solo Q, rank 9 since I’ve been derankes twice now.

Guy goes down in 20 seconds, kill himself on hook. Next survivor goes down in 30-40 seconds, tries to kill herself on hook but is saved by the third. Both get slugged within feet of eachother.

Killer finishes off the second survivor and tries to slug for the 4K. Third survivor follows me around while slugged attempting to rat me out, gets hooked and sits there the whole 2 minutes.

Third survivor dies, I get out with left behind.

Absolutely atrocious gameplay. I’m sticking to killer.

This (the OP) is the most accurate post I've read about any game. 500 bloodpoints have been awarded to your account.

Even as solo I am the power role

Solo survivor is not that bad. I see a lot of complaints over teammates making it harder. Harder to do what? If you mean escape, I seem to be doing just fine provided I out live the other 3. If it's pippin, then that's on your individual skills as bad teammates are useful to that goal. Been in and watched several games with 4man escape, with almost instant downs, cause minimum objective time for both side are vastly different.

Really don't see any camping or tunneling, just killers banking on opportunities

    I will agree that survivor play is very dull from casual balancing;

Mindless back to back pallets over mind games

Time Pressuring the killer with 🔻

    Overly simple & easy objective

Items that replace, speed up, or act as a fifth perk, flashlights being the only unique function

Holding forward- cause somehow that's all you need on some maps

Watch out man, you're on the exact same path as me.

I used to play Survivor, then i did this, and i completely quit playing that side.

Makes a clear side objective every game for the Survivors too.

Expanded to the Survivors, yes. Make it so the Survivors have subtle game-play differences.

I think they're all bad on the competitive side, but incredibly fun to play against and the kills they earn are warranted and fair

this includes Pyramid Head, but heavily excludes Freddy

I think Freddy is the closest thing to being exclusively "pay to win" in this game, the other licensed killers are fun but ineffective and their exclusive perks can still be earned via the shrine.

  • The problem with Deathgarden was they were not in a niche category with no competition anymore; so they had to rely on their own skills, invigorating ideas, and attentiveness as developers...so uh....yeaaahhhh.......

    Thank you.

It takes a lot to have fun in SQ. Sometimes I wish I could throw away my medkit, steal the killer's weapon, and proceed to curse and chase my teammates instead.

You know, when ruin had red skill checks it was a sort of challenge doing gens, you actually were focused on doing great skillchecks in order to progress and I can tell you the new ruin is more a crutch perk(as some people says) then the old one was. They reworked it beacuse for new players was too much of an hassle, despite I remember being rank 13 survivor for the first time and could hit great skillchecks 90% of the time. Now it is a brainless "minigame". Change my mind

Old ruin was unhealthy af because of the nature of old skill checks.

You could get 1 in a single generator, or you could get 15 within like 30 seconds of working on it.

Plus we're not even gonna mention the horribly laggy skill checks I suppose, which made things even harder because again, you had no control over it, they were broken and most people dont like it when you get stuff that does not work properly and relies on a lot of luck when it comes to how many skill checks happen.

So yeah I'd say it was way more of a brainless minigame since you were being punished for a badly designed mechanic based on luck.

Yeah people complain so much about killers being "weak" not realizing that all the nerfs they've called for over the years have basically reduced survivor into this wretched lump.

There are still mechanics issues that really need to be overhauled but BHVR is so in love with them like their first prom dance that they refuse to remove or change them, like struggle mechanics and skill check QTE.

Killers are like that. Why not survivors?

Also just because Claudette would have a better ability doesn't mean nobody would play Meg.

Lots of people don't run meta perks. We play the way we want.

I'm a killer main and I got tilted and played survivor for a few weeks straight. Its definitely an eye opening experience. I see how I normally play and how the killer plays. Its easy to misconstrue actions on both parts leading to toxicity. Tunneling and camping was so bad, that I really try to go out of my way to not do it so the survivors can have some fun and get BP.

I think bones help give survivors more objectives, but it's not THE objective (well not until NOED activates lol)

I do think survivors are essentially reskins of meta perks. I think that if survivors should have a bonus if using exclusive perks almost like a 4th tier. This will make each survivor unique and make the killer think; are they running standard builds or are they running a possible tier 4 build?

I think another interesting aspect would be survivors to lay down traps to slowdown the killer. I mean we see it in most movies where they barricade a door or set up a basic trap to slow them down (Scream is a great example of this). Tradeoff would be killer has to get something in return as balance (trap setter itakes 45 seconds to set trap and is exposed 45 secs after setting trap or only obsession can set 1 trap at a time). I think that would add more dynamic to survivor gameplay and would slow down game since trap setting could take 90 seconds or 1 gen

I used to make suggestions like building stuff in the game, either on killer or survivor side, to gain an advantage or bonus. everyone and I do mean everyone jumped on me, even the moderators and called me an idiot.

Thats a bold statement. I like to play solo, bc its interesting. Playing with 3 people on my level would be like playing in a casino where a jackpot is the norm.

Solo evens the odds. There is no ftustration when you know your teammates will be bad. Its a great handicap. But i think in the end the important thing is your mindset.

Even playing as a 3 man SWF can be miserable and you can lose the game through no fault of your own, with the matchmaking system, your random is gonna be a worse player in 95%+ matches, sometimes it's a literal rank 13 who may as well have never played the game before, if I play duo queue I consider the game a 2v1, trios 3v1, you just cannot rely on random teammates to do anything - 4 man SWF is usually fun, but even then that doesn't eliminate the main reason I main killer and not surv, which is the fact the killer has all the power to dictate whether you can have a fun match - if it's a Deathslinger, Spirit, Pyramid Head, that's straight up a match I won't have any fun in, nevermind boring playstyles of killers. I'd probably main survivor if I could hypothetically always play 4 man, and never face a Spirit/Slinger/Phead again, but so many factors and control of the killer to give you a fun experience make it way more frustrating, whereas the only thing that frustrates me as killer are maps (which are the main reason I've not played much DBD recently - if I could remove all indoor maps + Mother's Dwelling from the map pool, I'd play legitimately 3x more.)

A lot of this is more of a personal rant from me, rather than supporting your post, but it does suck when the game is really fun at its peak but things like this ruin the experience, in recent months my avg playtime has decreased around 4x, and the fact this newly released patch is worse than all of the aforementioned really doesn't help.

Survivour is boring dreary and takes no skill anymore since they nerf all killer stuff so the reason most killers do what they do is so they can get some bloodpoints.

At least the gens look a little better

Yeah, see, that's what I mean-- you've made peace with it.

As long as I get 4 WGLF stacks, I don't care however which way the game goes.

Say Ace had a passive 4% luck and Meg had a passive extra 5% speed

Who are you more inclined to use?

The free survivor with the free speed boost, or the survivor you have to pay or grind for just for a 4% luck bonus.

I'm not saying no one would play Ace, but abilities are abilities and a lot of players just play as survivors for the advantages they provide (Feng, Claudette) and only level up the noisy or large survivors for their perks (David, Ash)

Survivors would become meta, and if an advantage is provided for playing one character over the other it could quickly devolve into pay to win, and this game has enough paywalls as is
